Hey Kenan idea on how to breed them, I actually was reading about how they breed fly rivers the other day listening to a reptile vet. The females will go on an embankment and lay their eggs in the sand, they then will incubate and wait for the monsoon season to "activate" the eggs. Theres a 50 day stasis period when they can hatch. This technique is similar to how all sea turtles hatch at the same time so they have better chances of not being eaten. So for captive breeding, you would incubate the eggs of the female and after the gestation period, it's instant turtles! Just add water!. Maybe a project for you in the future if you ever want another pond (we know you do) with a sand area for a female and a barrier around it so they can't climb out it would be a fun and a great way to get captive bred fly rivers to the public! Your buddy the pond prof recently made a little habitat for his small fly river so think of something like that!

Kenan I just watched a video on Galopagos tortoises. And when humans came there they brought goats and guavas. The goats have almost been erradicated by the park rangers allowing th eislands to revert back for the tortoises. What may have saved them was the guava, and on some islands there it is their first fruit of choice. Maybe you should plant some guava for your galaops and aldabras?

Hey Brother, great video and even better turtle pond! Just FYI however, in 2004, that would have been Frances, and then Gaston, (not Gene) and shortly after, Ivan...
Now... there was a JEANNE named storm that year, but it made landfall on Florida just over a month after Frances. (Aug 24 - Frances / Sept 26 - Jeanne) Did you perhaps mean Ivan? Because you said it was only a week or so after, those are the two that got us badly. Frances and Ivan... Although, all three, Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne did hit Florida.
I remember it well because I got socked with Frances and then Ivan... Watched a dumpster float through the front window of a pizza shop I was working for at the time and then watched half our kitchen equipment get sucked out by the current and float away down into the heart of town which the main river had essentially CONSUMED....
The pizza shop was just down and bit and under my apartment and then we saw the US National Guard come through with a big deuce and a half truck and launch a pontoon swiftboat to rescue people from 2nd story windows! However the current was too strong and those National Guard boys got the scare of their lives as the current just spun them around and around in an eddy and they motored the hell back up and out of the worst of it. Worst flood I ever saw in my life. My brother and his friend at the Fire Dept were rescuing folks on the FD Jet Ski all day the next day. Folks were standing on their rooftops and then would hop onto the JetSki. (It was both surreal and awesome comic relief to see little old ladies and old men holding onto a firefighter cutting up on a SkiDoo headed straight up Main street to a patch of dry land). My front yard was a lake... it was normally a sidewalk and a large main road... Scary shit, I remember it very well. That was the year of Frances, Gaston, and Ivan. (Ivan was the one that kicked our asses because the ground was saturated from Frances a few weeks earlier!)

Wait, sliders have to eat in the water?
There’s lots of red eared sliders in the pond by my house (they’re very much native to my area) and we feed them lettuce and other veggies and fruits sometimes. Sometimes we even bring them mealworms (the ibises at the pond love those).
The bigger turtles often come out of the water to get food from us and let us pet them. They’ll eat small pieces of lettuce or small blueberries and the like outside the water.
Should I not let them do that? Is it unhealthy for them?

Hey Kenan!! Do you ever find turtle nests by the pond or hatchlings? For your GoPro, cause it fell in the water (you can also do this for any electronics, especially mobile phones) remove the memory card & battery, take a plastic container, pour rice on the bottom, put your GoPro in, cover it in rice, put a cover on the container & leave it in the rice 24-48hrs. The rice will pull out all the moisture in the GoPro & it should be fine after that. Even if it didn't go completely under the water, if there is just a little bit of water that got in the cam it can potentially rust the components & ruin the camera. Cheers bud!!
