My head canon is that the Andorians took the human phase cannon design and combined the tech with their own (probably Nadion based) particle weapon design. Making a surprise improvement in power and versatility which quickly becomes the main weaponry of Andorian ships, before Starfleet adopts the Phaser design for their own ships.

When you got to the Klingon section, I’m surprised you missed the obvious speciality of the species. From all that was mentioned about how they acquire their technology, the Klingons seem to be specialists in reverse engineering. Even when encountering tech far more advance then their own, the Klingons seem to easily be able to reverse engineer, understand, and recreate the technology whether it be their warp drives to Romulan cloaking technology and etc.
Perhaps I’m looking too deeply into it but goes to show how the Klingons are unique in terms of innovation.

One of my favorite part about DS9 is that for once we see why the klingons are a fiersome speices to have in a conflict. while the moral of everyone is downing with the constant updating of the casualty list, you can see the klingon's moral going up as time goes. you see them coming back from battle chanting and cheering everyone happy that it was a blood bath with tons of great warriors entering sto-vo-kor.

    • @Josiahiswatching

I think that is one of Klingons greatest strengths: tenacity and wisdom. They can literally be enslaved by a technologically more advanced species and in rebelling not only fling them off their planet and chase them to the stars but also make it as they are never heard from again in that sector of space. Kingpins are hardy and they take a beating and an old Klingon is often a wise Klingon because they can take the lumps and keep going. And theirs is a history of such individuals thousands of years old. They are unafraid to try and seize opportunities and that gives them an edge over more cautious (Vulcan) or fragile (humans) species .

If I had to find a specific strength for Klingons, it would be that they're masters at not only reverse-engineering captured technologies, but improving upon them. They make better cloaks than Romulans; their ships, while ultimately based on stolen Hur'q technology, are tougher than anyone else's; their weapons are second to none. Their technology is designed to be usable with minimal training (well, except their melee weapons - bat'leths and mek'leths are almost as dangerous to the wielder as the opponent), and capable of standing up to extremely rough handling.

so this video did the alpha and beta quadrants. Part two should be about the Delta and Gamma quadrants. For example one very good species to do would be the Vidiians and they're extremely superior medical technology, which can be used both as a weapon and as a sophisticated tool for medical treatment. Another one would be the Voth, with their distaste for endotherm's and they're highly sophisticated personal cell technology which allowed them to observe Voyager at least for a while without being detected. The Vodwar might be another good delta species to cover.

The various species of the Delta Quadrant alone would fill up a video or two. Like the Hirogen's hunting tactics, the Kobali's ability to effectively raise the dead, the Vidiian's advanced (if sus) medical and genetic technologies, even Krenim's grasp of temporal mechanics and the Voth's transwarp capabilities are worth mentioning.

I'd love to see more non federation races, races that were less familiar with! As for the klingons, I would say their strength is their ability to reverse engineer tech!

really should've touched on that species in the delta quadrant that had the best transporter in the galaxy, they can practically transport people and objects into an entirely different quadrant.

I think it would be interesting to have another video like this speculating the Tholians, and the Breen. You can probably learn a lot about these races through there tech, for example the Tholians have advanced tractor beams and the best environmental tech in probably all four quadrants. The Breen use asymmetrical ships could this be that the Breen use a different method of warp theory or they make them that way to confuse their enemies. I think it would be interesting to see a video like this but with the races we have little info on.

    I want more of this.
Might I suggest ferrangi are honestly good at diplomacy (when they aren't being pirates) and exploration? They have to find suitable markets and make sales with the people of those markets.
Also supposedly holodeck technology came from them in some roundabout way? Ditto synthahol?
But beyond greedy money grubbers ferrangi are honestly great for diplomacy and inter species trade. Plus their bilogy is diffrent enough from galactic norms that empsths and telepaths typically find it hard to rad them.

I would like to see more of this. Lot of other people have given their lists of races and their things you should cover next; but I'd like to add to the Klingons. I think you missed a thing that they are strangely good at, that has been shown a few times in the shows and in the apocrypha and that's that they are weirdly quite adept at genetic technology; creating a clone of Kahless, and hiding the Suliban intel in that dude's DNA, to cite a couple.

Not to mention the astrometrics lab in Voyager, as far as advanced Federation scanning technology. yes seven helped by integrating borg technology but she had ostensibly been assimilated / reintegrated into the Federation at this point.

for the super ship you should throw in a former borg chief engineer, who brought along their subspace displacement fields and adaptive shielding.

I liked it but I feel cheated out of the Ferengi.
I was glad that you covered all of the others that I would have hoped for though.
Those alien people plus the Ferengi are all on the main list of groups that I expect to frequent a star trek story.
Well, them and the Borg and members of the continuum aside from the random ones.

Ferengi might have some interesting warp abilities. They have an extremely low species designation, meaning they encountered them very very early. Now even if they discovered a wormhole, it still means they were out there exploring.

Honestly the klingons would likely produce very good mercenaries, it'd be one of the few ways klingons could have 'honorable' combat in times of peace.
I.e. if there aren't any wars at the time klingon officers could be rented out by the KDF to keep their talents sharp.

I would assign communication to the UFP as well. They have a huge area and need powerful and reliable communication technology to keep it organized.
The Romulans are Security and Espionage. Only the Founders, Garak and maybe Section 31 managed to fool them occasionally.

  • @reddyredwolf3931

Well the Ferengi are actually quite impressive technologically once they put their minds into it. It was a Ferengi that invented Multi-Phasic shields. Self replicating mines was an afterthought of Rom. There is also the disabling wave tech the Marauders were equipped with.
During wartime where resources were scarce Nog was a logistics genius. I imagine Admiralty would want to adopt him for it.
