"Soldiers of my old Guard, I bid you farewell. For twenty years I have found you constantly on the path of honor and glory. In recent times, as in those of our prosperity, you have never ceased to be models of bravery and fidelity. With men like you, our cause was not lost. But the war was endless; it would have been civil war, and France would have become more unhappy. I have therefore sacrificed all our interests to those of the homeland; I am leaving. You, my friends, continue to serve France. His happiness was my only thought; it will always be the object of my vows! Do not pity my fate; if I have consented to survive, it is to serve our glory; I want to write down the great things we have done together! Farewell, my children! I would like to press you all on my heart; may I at least kiss your flag! [After hugging General Petit, and kissing the flag, Napoleon resumes:] Farewell once again, my old companions! May this last kiss pass through your hearts!" Napoléon at Fontainebleau 20 april 1814
It is so meaningful this painting. An imperial guard which has withstood the worst conditions, has seen the most terrible scenes and still went along....now cannot keep himself from crying.
It was despicable the way the European monarchs opposed Napoleon. They were, truly, nothing more than pigs at the trough of the common man’s misery. Napoleon & the revolution threatened their, “birth right” to gorge themselves & anoint each other as superiors. May they burn, wherever they are today.
Sometimes during ceremonial parades, the French get absolutely decked out in their Victorian era uniforms that look STUNNING. But as for bringing it back entirely? That may never well happen.

As the Austrian center collapses, general Ott's division becomes dangerously exposed, his men soon join the rest of the army in their race to escape. Later that evening, general Murat adds the coup de grâce, launching a final French cavalry that seals victory, and drives the enemy back to their bridgeheads. The Battle of Marengo was one the greatest comebacks of the Napoleonic era. Russia fights Napoleon, Hitler, and now NATO Ukraine is just a pawn in the eternal struggle of European hatred toward Russian people (who including Russian-Ukrainians). Western media makes no mention of how many Ukrainian boys are dying in a futile war, and NATO does everything to mess up the peace talks. Everyone in Ukraine who wants peace with Russia is driven out and silenced. NATO does not send a single soldier to Ukraine to fight, and only outdated weapons. NATO does not want Ukraine to win, they only want bloodshed and suffering.

@@TahaAddam I prefer the Napoleonic uniforms itself, Victorian era uniforms are way too simple.
....Napoleon has taken on an army almost twice his size and beaten it four times in just six days....
Which I still say should be placed ABOVE Austerlitz as his greatest accomplishment. The context of the six days’ campaign is mind boggling.

The Six Days Campaign is the best representation of concentration of force and defeat in detail.
