This game melted my brain when I saw it at the Great Mall in Milpitas in 1995. The real-time camera system and feedback on the machine gun made it the ultimate cinematic arcade experience for a 13 year old.
My childhood favorites. I used to play this game along with LA Machineguns all the time when I was a little kid. Right now, I have both of them on the Wii so I can play at home. No quarters required
@@lunitaproductions8290 I imagine it's possible to have a force feedback lightgun. I haven't played the arcade VR sim much yet, but it's MAME friendly and lightgun friendly. Might even have haptic support. It's something
Fr tho, the pilot is the real mvp here. He made the heli fly under roadsigns, between bridge suspension, inside building carpark, even keeping the heli walking on the ground that the gunner's pov is lower than the enemy. All while dodging enemy fires that aren't in our fov
Lots of things in this game were ahead of their time. The way you can disarm the terrorists by shooting their weapons from their hands, forcing them to run and try to pick it back up, the dynamic way your helicopter moves on it's own, refusing to hover still and let the rockets just hit it and instead actually maneuvering tactically around the battlefield to dodge incoming rockets and give you better firing angles, enemies even LOOK more damaged in the areas you shoot them in, every successful hit exposing the metal and malfunctioning machinery underneath their fake skin and showing you that these "terrorists" are actually androids! There's so much to admire about this game that many games TO THIS DAY still don't have.
Remaster of any light gun shooters were bad. Take HOTD Remake for example, it turned from a pure classic to a messy ragdollfest. So yeah, AM3 was supposed to make a third game called Jet Squadron, but the game was canned and the producer Shinichi Ogasawara moved to the UK to produce Transformers: Human Alliance, a spiritual successor to Gunblade NY.
Assault chainguns KM might be up your alley if you want a Gunblade-like experience. HOTD Remake was fine on it's own, it's just comparably rough if u compare it to the original.
I remember playing this game alot back in the day with my little bro. It's also the first game to ever give me carpal tunnel from the harsh kickback of the gun. After every level I would crash to my knees and cradle my hand and arm for as long as it took to get to the next level. I was in so much pain but it was worth it
@@thefiresworddragon927 Yep. After we beat the final level, I couldn't close my hand at all. We had to go to a Walgreens and get an ice pack. Still worth it though, the game was just too much fun.
This game was awesome! I remember playing it at sega city. Sega city had a special one night a week like 20 bucks and it was all you can play all night. I played this game controlling both guns.
I got to play _Gunblade NY_ for the very first time at a retro gaming convention in England in October 2024 (Play Expo Blackpool). Man, it was awesome - especially in free play mode! 😎 Positioning the back of the gun against my stomach to feel the recoil made it even better!

It’s awkward now to see the twin towers in a game that takes place in the year 2005. Knowing that by the time 2005 came, the towers were long destroyed and construction on the Freedom Tower and the 9/11 memorial began. I was surprised that this game was able to get a rerelease on the Wii after 9/11, considering that in the game, you shoot terrorists in New York City.
I don't think there are any guns with bullets that slow, but let me know if you find anything. What is usually used for shooting out of helicopters is a M134 Minigun
Got the combo of this and LA Machineguns on Wii-- Nintendo really missed an opportunity to port as mainly lightgun games as they could have, since it was about then that the era of arcade parlors really took a nosedive. Like you MIGHT have a pizzeria here and there with a sports arcade and like.... a fucking _golf_ cabinet, then you either live near (enough) to a Round One, don't know what the hell that is, or go to Dave n Busters, of whom most don't really take good care of their machines and are often broken, covered in beer stains, and badly calibrated.
What's so scary about this game is that it predicted both 9/11 and 7/7 at the same time, the date of the game July 12 2005 is just days after 7/7, and the fact it predicted a terrorist attack in New York is pretty scary as well. The game came out years before 9/11 and 7/7. In 1995.
Yep. So does the NYPD. The Wii version also replaced them with cab passengers and cabs instead. The trademark logos such as Coca-Cola, Fuji Film, and JVC has been removed and replaced by something else including various Sega video games

Omg it's the GoldenEye rocket launcher sound! 😂
Better than that 2 gunner guy is there PILOT!!

I'd kill for a modern remaster of this game. Identical gameplay but ultra high definition modern graphics.

My childhood.
I hears cannon blasts sounds from metal slug.
What is that sound effect anyway?
I don't think it's from Metal Slug, it's from any Western shows from 40s to 80s. Gunsmoke or any Clint Eastwood films are one of them.
One question. If it was released in North America and all over the world, why do the options have to be in Japanese?
I think I have brain damage from the giant guns that used to shake violently in my little arms while playing this game as a youth.
The graphics give me a headache and reminds me of a fever dream. 🤢 but thanks for uploading an arcade game playthrough.
The shaky interactive camera gave me a headache too.

Yup but limited 🤔
M60 GPMG or M2HB is pretty good weapon though M2 is probably too heavy for kickback
M240 or the mini gun or a 50cal
