  • Last year, Didi Taihuttu sold almost everything he owned, poured it into bitcoin and moved his family into a trailer park. In this episode of Moving Upstream, WSJ’s Thomas Di Fonzo goes on a year-long journey with the “Bitcoin Family” as they bet everything on a decentralized cryptocurrency future.

When he said that, I realized that almost every skill I've used to earn money I mostly learned AFTER school. That's probably only gonna be more true in the future as technology changes even faster.
I'll credit early elementary school for some of the basics, but that's about it.

Hes right. If you teach kids business, social, home skills and technological skills (he ran a software teaching company), problem solving and objective thinking. That's all you need. It's so easy to learn new things with the internet. And in the new age to be rich is to be independent, not work for others.

Haha, when he said that he doesn't have an endgame, his wife crossed her hands which is a textbook indicator of disagreement. If he teaches his kids skills which they will be able to use to acquire capital and increase their wealth, the family will stay together and live happy ever after. If he won't, that will change.
In either case, I'm really happy for him as I've wanted to leave the standard way of life for a long time but it seems that I have to wait many years more to secure funding for that. Make the dream happen, Didi!

They are right about the education system. It teaches you nothing about adapting for the changes that can happen in the future. The matter of fact is, the monetary system can be managed by technology better than by a single entity that can print money. Decentralize a lot of the important aspects of life and you become free. You are more relaxed in life and are able to achieve what you would want to achieve.

    • @keithwisdom1663
      @keithwisdom1663 5 лет назад +5

I think his wife was forced to do it or leave. it was his idea and he seems to be an alpha man so she is in it regardless. she seems a little bit unhappy and concern. and the kids are so happy because they don't have to go to school any more.

    • @keithwisdom1663

@@kmurph512 I'm all from him - I'm heavy invested in bitcoin and I have about a 60% unrealized loss- but I'm single with no kids and no obligations. but I can not support a man with a family and kids doing this regardless. I totally agree with the downsizing and home schooling. first he could of taken a reasonable amount of gains occasionally thru out the investment period so in the event of things not working out fast enough he would be able to easily sustain all of his family needs including the full emotional needs of his WIFE and an inheritance for his children. If Bitcoin is going to hit 250,000 why do you need to try to put every single dollar you have into it. makes no sense at all. if it's going to the moon what the difference between gaining 500 million instead of 1 billion dollars? You can always make money but you don't get LIFE back that was full of years worrying especially as an adult (his father passing/mine as well). and it's clear this was not his spouse's plan or idea.

The journalist misses the point. The man doesn't need an exit plan or end game, he is just LIVING. Something the journalist is obviously unable to comprehend due to his reliance on a 9 to 5 routine. As the saying goes 'Get a job, go to work, get married, have children, follow fashion, act normal, walk on the pavement, watch TV, obey the law, and save for your old age. Now, repeat after me: you are free'.

Things have been looking positive when the prices as 4k as well, those of us who have been trading in Bitcoin since near the beginning know that Bitcoin has always gone through capitulation cycles about every 2 years. Once we top out at an all time high, there's a large price dump, then the media claims Bitcoin is dead, then the prices surges to a record shattering high again, each cycle ends with an all time high about 15 times higher than the previous high, the next high (which we will hit around 2022) will be at about $300,000.

That means, his total investment was around $833k. Because $500k = 60% of $833k. Therefore, his portfolio at time of interview was worth roughly $333k. After cross checking, $333k /$833=40%. I first got involved in bitcoin in 2009 when nobody knew about it. At that time it was worth only around 0.1 cent each. You could buy 10 bitcoins with a single penny.
It gradually increase year after year to around 1000$ in early 2017.
So far we did it all without any advertising, media mention, or marketing strategy. Just a bunch of computer nerds and libertarians who want to challenge the status quo and poke the powers that shouldn't be in the eye.
Than suddenly something very weird started to happen: the media started to talk about Bitcoin ad nauseum. That brought Bitcoin out of the closet, but it also invited countless wanna be speculator and kewl high school kid into Bitcoin. They all wanted to buy it without understanding what Bitcoin is. They all think it's some sort of speculative asset, an investment vehicle... it's not.
The media is responsible for the bitcoin bubble and roller coaster of 2017.
Bitcoin is now worth about 3500$, or almost 4x what it was worth before the crazy media bubble started out.
And you think Bitcoin is down?
We are only shaking off all the wannabe speculators who bought into bitcoin without understanding it.
I think Bitcoin will remain at current levels, or even drop a little for the rest of 2019. Than it might take off again.

For the record, if every single Bitcoin miners where to shut down tomorrow, I could mine Bitcoin on my laptop. Yes, my little laptop could validate all of the transactions of the entire world. And I would reap insane profits too. But that's not going to happen.

If every miner turns off his ASICs tomorrow I could mine Bitcoin on my laptop and earn 24,000$ every 10 minutes. (12 coin per 10 minutes x 2000$).

Yes it is. I messed up my fund while trading. Could you believe that I got in xrp when it was 0.0068 in 2016? But because of trading from one coin to another and moving the coin from one exchange to another I lost everything. There is no better way than to buy, hold and pray.
