First Cannibal Corpse Album I picked up was The Bleeding in 1995 and fell in love with the band. I backtracked and got there first 3 albums before that directly after. They are my biggest guitar playing influence (Jack, Rob, and Pat). I don’t copy there style when writing my own music it’s just they are a big inspiration to me along with many other bands (Origin, Morbid Angel, Dying Fetus, Suffocation, Pantera, Slayer, The old REAL Sepultura with Max and Igor, etc.) Cannibal Corpse has one of the grooviest instrumental songs ever made off my favorite album Gallery of Suicide called “From Skin To Liquid”. Such a great song and so much respect for this band and every member that’s ever played in the band. Miss ya Pat and hope all is well with him.
I got into them around 92/93 on tomb and saw em live 93 but also first fell for them with Bleeding and got abit disappointed when I bought Vile in 96. But love the Vile album above many other new ones now though.
Same. I never really listened to CC until one day I decided to give them a proper listen (started with Violence Unimagined). I was instantly hooked, and I've been listening to them non-stop. Going to see them live in March, lol.

It makes me sick after 2018... Knowing the band without Pat, damn.... it's defenitely not the same... What a mess and shame to lost him, Rutan is good but Pat was the perfect guitar player for this band.
The best COMPOSITIONS are, in my opinion, in "Gallery of Suicide". Powerfull and even moving. Not only violence et horreur, but sadness too. Something tragic.
Never understood why they got rid of Bob Rusay.. that guy was an absolute beast when it came to head banging and thrashing his body around while playing guitar lol. George has nothing on that guy when it comes to head banging. I was watching a cannibal corpse documentary recently and I personally find it ironic that they let go of Bob because he was holding them back creatively when in actuality he was a good solid guitarist. I liked him and Jack Owen the best out of all the guitarist that have played w/ cannibals guitarists.. but in the holding back sense I always felt like their drummer Paul is the one holding them back because he plays the same style beats on every song. I feel like he is the Lars Ulrich of death metal drumming. He never evolves and plays the same beats on every song. As a drummer myself I like Paul but like I said if you're making the argument of being held back creatively by Bob... I would argue the same about Paul.
I think you raise a fair point but unlike lars Paul has always been up front about his limited abilities and I think Paul was more of a team player then bob
From what I read years ago, Bob Rusay wasn't good in the studio and Jack Owen actually had to record Bob's parts on Tomb of the mutilated. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case as he hasn't been in a band since and a totally legit reason to be kicked out.
