@@theinnercircle5820 are you sure??? Because i have the Centuries of Torment DVD and they played these two songs in Buffalo in 89, and i think it's their first live show
That's what I love of these bands. They started as old school thrash/death combos, then developed their own sound. Same thing happened to a band like Amputation (then Immortal): they were totally death thrash and then developed in something new and unique. The book "Glorious times" well represent all that scene (Autopsy, Deceased, Immolation, Amon/Deicide...). It's my favourite kind of death metal!

I was 5 years old when they performed live for the first time. I didn't become aware of CC until the mid-late 1990's. I wish I was at this performance, I would have loved it. I lived in NY too, but not in Buffalo. CC is my favorite band ever and they have performed one bad show. Not even their first ever show is bad. :)
This is pretty awesome. Just watched the Cannibal Corpse Centuries of Torment documentary, it is cool to be able to see their first show first hand. What is even cooler is that I was 1 when they recorded this. \m/
I didn't have the pleasure to witness them live until 2002. The club was similar to this place. Complete insanity..... a great show all around. Deeds of flesh and Macabre!! Was killer!
Thank God they didn't. Butchered at Birth is perfect the way it is. So is Tomb of the Mutilated. Eaten Back to life is as close to this as you can get. Butchered and Tomb are still their best albums. I wish they would remaster them. Could you imagine Butchered at Birth with the quality of Torture?
Omg they were so Young and out of tune 😂 listen to Chris Barnes voice before growling so classic but fucking awesome original lineup you guys fucking rule
that's how barns sang in his early days. you can hear that on the leviathan demo and the cc demo, in 1990 he changed from the kreator like thrash vocals to death growls
It surely is! Not that hard, bands evolve radically all the time. Slayer went from Reign In Blood to South of Heaven -- giant wall of sound to stripped-down.
Their 1990 release, Eaten Back to Life, is still partially thrash metal, so it wasn't in just a year. It was a more gradual change in a few years' span.
I believe this is early '89, like February? They were opening for Dark Angel. Sadly I didn't make it down to that show. But I saw them later that year at the same venue opening for Bloodfeast.
cc first album is pretty much thrash riffs with death vocals. Even some butchered at birth birth is pretty thrash riffs and it kept progressing as the years rolled by.

WillB 115 it’s not their first live show which is this one is on May 1989 and that other one is on December of 1989
@@theinnercircle5820 ah ok
i love the vocals, this footage is a piece of history right there.
Hell yeah
They opened for Dark angel at the River Rock cafe. The place was so packed that you could hardly move. I'm glad that I was there.
lucky bastard.. ps, did they actually do a cover of louie louie, or was the other guy a troll?
It was a long time ago, but I can’t remember them playing that. He was probably trolling. They never did covers back then.
@@jamesmiller6217 weirdly, i did find a few references to it on setlist.fm, and a horrible quality of a version.
That must have been wild.
bro chris’s vocals are insane in this
Morbid Saint like voice.
you can still hear the thrashpunk in there. awesome
Oh yes!666
Reminds me of Johnny Rotten...death/thrash version of course...glad the vocals got deeper over time
They sounded so thrash back then

Such a cool upload man 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Pure energy!
I heard there was 1000 people in that little place.
It definitely felt like that!! It was about 4-500 but we were packed in there like a NYC subway!
That’s what I remember. It was packed and you couldn’t move. The cops wouldn’t let you hang outside either. They’d tell you get back in the club.
I miss these days!!!!
Back when Chris Barnes sounded like a Dave mustaine that hadn’t hit puberty lol
Dave mustaine already sounds like a dave mustaine that hasn't hit puberty yet.
@@bustercherry8734 bro 🤣😭🤣

I was 1 year old when this was played jesus
Who besides me thinks Jack Owen should grow his hair back?

He bald nigga
His and Bob Rusay's hair was falling out back when this was recorded.
Lol yep he bald that's why he shaves it. He went thin pretty early
Me
When I turned on this video, there was no sound
Really cool that this exists
Kreator + Sadus
It makes me wonder what made Chris decide to do his iconic demon growls vocal style. I wonder what band he took that influence from
probably listened to Reek of putrefaction and Symphonies of sickness. Bill Steel's vocals are very deep.
EPICO!!
Reminds me of Cryptic Slaughter
X2
Wow double ads wtf youtube
fuck yeah thnx for the upload man
Barnes sounds like a pissed off hobbit.
Centurys of torment!!!!!!!!
you can hear the Mayhem, Slayer, Celtic Frost and Napalm Death influences here very strong
wish they would have kept this style of vocals for the 1st and second album or at least the first. I prefer this style of Barnes
+Jonathan G Listen to skull full of maggots off of the eaten back to life album
theres no way you can do these vocals over hammer smashed face and have it sound good
Jesse unless it was played faster

Badass

Can anyone tell me is that Chris Barnes...?
Yes it is ! Hard to believe right ? :)
He hadn't finished puberty yet
too bad I wasn't born then or else I would of see this live
They sound a lot like Demolition Hammer here.
Hmph, they also did a cover of Louie Louie that night, where'd that go?
what up with those vocals
