I love how "Failure paves the way to success." is a voice line from Addam when respawning after defeat. That's kinda Torna the Golden Country in a nutshell. A tragic story for sure, but one that needed to happen before we could get the more hopeful conclusion from the base game. Rex needed to learn from Addam's mistakes before he could truly accept the Aegis, while Mythra had to move forward following her own trauma before she could be the hope Alrest desperately needs.
I'm glad you caught that. Since the broader message of Xenoblade 2 is about overcoming the past, the Torna DLC is great for actually showing the past that needs to be overcome and...yeah, it's *ROUGH* Partially why much of the video is kind of a poetic retelling more than a character piece, since the context of Torna matters more for the whole message to come across. But I hope you don't mind that.
I remember back in 2017 I had nothing to do, I was bored and I came across a 15 hour video with all the XC2 cinematic and decided to watch it… and man it was the second time a video game made me cry, this is one of the best video games I've ever had the pleasure to play
@@manaphy1007 yes, titans have a core, their core, as part of thir body. but they also produce blade core crystals. those aren't part of the titan, but independant crystals that grow from titans. at least some of them, most likley the big ones at least. that's how new blades are created. like how an arachno awoke wulfric for the first time before we kill it, or why the dead tornan titan has eggs. We also know that Azudra is born from the tornan Titan
I think Torna is my favorite of the DLCs. Jin was one of the most interesting parts of XB2 to me, so seeing his character more fleshed out was really cool
I mean, yes, tragedies did happen to protect Alrest. And while not everything could be salvaged, at the end of the day, Malos was stopped (for the time being at least) and the survivors got to live out their days until the next 500 years. Regardless of how powerful you are, you can only save so many people. It’s better than one Titan had to die rather than the entirety of Alrest as we know it. And Alrest is my favorite video game setting of all time. To me, it is what I love about Xenoblade as a whole.
Torna was necessary in order to better flesh out XC2's story. I just wish it had been a better overall game in order to capitalize on what XC2 was trying to tell us. Also 33:56 XC2 is definitely a bit wish fulfillment. Young boy stumbles across vast power and a bunch of hot battle maidens. So having that jank fit works for Rex because of the sheer irony; Rex should not be as lucky with the ladies as he is.
All the generics would have a tough time fighting mythra or Jin alone. As for N, he was able to beat with Na'el/Alpha in FR who is probably on the same tier as Mythra. Full team would probably stand a decent chance against him though. Lastly Z, party would have a tough time since Mythra with addam isn't at full power. They'd still probably find a way with some aegis bullshittery though.
@@dibby1045 Na'el/Alpha is not on the same tier as Mythra/Malos, let alone Pneuma/FP Malos. N couldn't scratch Alpha Beginning+End and neither could team ouroboros UNTIL they unlocked true ouroboros
I assume it's the main party in torna, not just people in torna. Haze can significantly nerf moebius with her abilities. Jin is strong in his own right and Mythra is easily the strongest person in the team, especially at full power. Brigid managed to beat Mythra once in a fight and the other fights she got close, it's safe to say she can carry her weight as well. If we add in these factors and the fact the XC2 characters and scaling is pretty much the highest of all 4 Xenoblade games, I think Moebius loses. The combo of nerfing them + plus Mythra alone is just too much. N isn't going to keep up with Mythra. He was beaten by ouroboros which definitely don't match the scaling of 2/Torna. You could make an argument for moebius winning. Like M with her mind swap or Shania with her ability to literally stop anything and everything. But again Mythra herself is already a powerhouse, 2/torna characters in general are just stronger naturally.
You are correct. XC2 had really high moments, but also very low ones at the same time. I was not a fan of the gacha mechanic, the sexualization that was very much distracting and broke scene immersions and the ending being a harem ending was just bad. One thing I will note is that the games NEVER tell you that Amalthus was the reason the Titans were dying out. But when you look at the key parts when Amalthus learned about how Blades and Titans shared similar DNA structures, you realize that Amalthus's cleansing was just resetting the data. The system of Titans and Blades for life to continue was perfectly structured, and Amalthus just threw a wrench in that because he wanted to squeeze the life out of humanity. Amalthus really just wants humanity to show their ugliest side as they are being destroyed because that's the only side he recognizes. He can't see the good in humanity and thinks all humans are just one side, when they are many sides.
I remember that making me sad in base 2. Sure, there was something sketchy about Indol and especially Amalthus from the start, but there was a light in Indol at least that got snuffed out and suffered for Amalthus’s crimes. I think the quest with the Nopon thief demonstrates my point. While Indol was shady with the worst of actors at its head, its facade of being a legitimate and benevolent religious organization had the potential to do good. It gave the thief a higher power to inspire him to turn a new leaf. In general, that quest is a prime example for me that, for all the bad things done in the name of religion, the good that comes from it is worthwhile. But by the end of base 2, Indol is sunk and that facade is shattered to the point the good people inspired by it can’t even pick up the pieces and legitimize it.
I really don’t get this point about highs and lows considering all three games have their issues. For everything people complain about gacha, field skills and sexualization, I see a game with incredible ambition that feels unique even to its own series. A game that wasn’t afraid to appeal to a particular demographic. A game with a tremendous art style and art direction, wonderful characters and thought provoking themes, that wasn’t afraid to be goofy at times. It’s a very special game that I’d rate higher than the other two any day of the week. Even though I also love XC3.
@@jairekambui7738 I personally can't rate it higher than XC1. XC1 felt like a masterpiece of a game. While XC2 felt like a very fanservice game. And while I did enjoy it and will never call it bad, its having excessive fanservice and such really detracted from rather serious moments in the game that made it hard to take seriously.

Amalthus did find Elysium, that’s where he found the aegises, he just didn’t find the architect because klaus actively hid from him
I can understand why.

Despite the tragedy of torna, at least Alrest lives for another day
Yeah at least it survived despite the sacrifices that were made
