Navigators Playing Cards By Theory 11 Deck Review

- In this episode we unbox the latest release from Theory 11, the Navigators Playing Cards and give you a chance to win one for yourself. Also we announce the three lucky winners of the Art of Play Mystery decks.
Note: The deck is actually MODERN cut. Not Traditionally cut. Sorry for any confusion. Additionally the price is $9.95 not $9.99.
After teasing the deck for 10 days or so on the Theory 11 website, the Navigators were released to the public via Theory11.com on New Year’s Eve 2018. The deck comes packaged in an attractive matte white cardstock tuck case featuring gold foil, and raised embossing throughout the design. The front of the box features picture frame style line work in gold with the image of a compass, complete with black compass needle, floating above the deck name. The sides read Navigators and the bottom has the traditional Theory 11 ad copy. The back is an almost 1:1 representation of the back design of the cards. More on the minor difference in a bit. The main feature is of course the traditional ships wheel, most commonly associated with the wooden vessels constructed between the 1400s to 1900s. The tuck flap is held in place by a black and gold foil seal.
In a shocking turn of expectations, the Navigator deck includes completely custom faces. Even pip placement is unique and non-standard. The Ace of spades includes a large spade pip with gold metallic accents and the image of a whale’s tale breaching the black waters of an ocean. The full moon hangs low and large behind the whale in a field of stars. Additionally the other three aces include gold circle seal-style ornamentation around the center pip.

First of all, a short story of why I'm here !
My love of art and magic sparked when I was 5 when me and my grandpa were playing cards and I couldn't figure out how he always ends up getting the jokers to his hand , so one day he said to me "When I need a joker, I simply think of it , and I pick up the top card" and then he picked up a card , showing me it was the joker.
so I said , "ok, so now you took it. but there's another one . can you pick up another joker if you want ?" and then he did .
Then he performed what I now know is called "the ambitious card" but with 2 jokers , leaving 1 at the bottom , 1 at the top . and after shuffling the deck , he controlled the bottom to the top, revealing the second one. performing it again and again.
He probably knew I'd ask him about it so he controlled both of them and placed them on top ..
Anyway ! This was the best trick I've seen because he didn't even ask me if I wanted to see a magic trick, he simply performed it and let me enjoy the surprise !
When I'm not holding a deck of cards I like to play the piano or the guitar , and right now I'm also focusing on my studies for 3D game design.
I should be doing homework right now , but I couldn't just leave the notification of a new video hanging in the background.

I'm actually new to cardistry and magic so my other hobbies this far have been mostly music related. I've been a musician/singer/song writer most of my life and I've also delved into graffiti art and comic book art through out my life.
The nationals deck from theory 11 actually has completely custom faces all the way through and each card has hints of metallic gold on each face. It has quickly become a favorite of mine, and I think the black back design works best for it. As for hobbies outside of magic, I enjoy photography, playing guitar and reading.
Wow, that transition was spot on :D My biggest hobby is dancing lindy hop and solo jazz, i am absolutely in love with it!
I recently started collecting decks of playing cards. Theory 11 decks are some of my favorite. I also collect folding knives. I was in law enforcement for over 20 years as a SWAT operator and a firearms instructor. I enjoy teaching others how to shoot. I enjoy your channel and the content you provide. Keep up the good work.

Good morning Gentleman Wake and Liza, to be honest I think the dull back of the Navigator deck is a complete 360 turn from the faces and love the use of the two opposites ... as for me I love reading and doing Origami (i'm not a master folder .... yet) ... I think of the both of you as the the George Burns and Gracie Allen of RUclips (being 58 I hope you get the esteem meant by that comment) ... as always a pleasure spending some time with you and thanks for sharing
Well I live in the mountains of North Carolina so I enjoy fishing quite a bit especially trout fishing me and my niece both love it and here you can pull off the side of the road just about anywhere
Hahaha that transition to your wife was hilarous! Another great review! Its awesome that theory11 did custom pips and faces but when it was released it never wowed me. I'll probably eventually get one but I'm in no rush.
It was nice to see lady wake make her way back into the videos!! I am into anything outdoors hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, and running.
My hobby outside of card related stuff is art, creating and admiring art of all forms is one of the things I love. That's why I love this channel.❤

I used to work as a software developer. Now it is sort of a hobby, I like to just solve a particular problem and model its solution. I also enjoy gardening and I would love to get into comedy, but I don't think I have the spark needed.
I will say that Navigators is a deck I've been looking forward to buying. I bought Theory11's White Artisans and red High Victorian. I love the faces on the High Victorians, while very simple and classic, the filling of each drawing is very appealing and mesmerizing.

Really liked the video this time. Especially the small skit in the middle after seeing the customized faces on this deck! Breaking from the norm is enjoyable after going through the monotony of everyday life. Other hobbies I enjoy are putting puzzles together with my family, then gluing and framing them as art pieces in my home. Great vid! Keep up the good work!

One of my major hobbies is training in the Martial Arts. I am currently a Gracie Jiu Jitsu Purple Belt and also have a Black Belt in Kenpo Karate. I am really enjoying my Jiu Jitsu journey.
My hobbies outside card magic are playing drums and sometimes harmonica, besides music I also like to slove Rubik's cube. As always nice video. I wouldn't see the change of colours of the back as important, rather than changing the design from ship wheel into some compass, because I think it more fits the theme of the deck.

I like working with metal, whether it be on a lathe, mill, or using the welder. I like being able to take something raw and make something beautiful or functional out of it.

Actually, I think the pattern inside the box is meant to resemble waves. Another passion of mine would be photography, I think it's great to capture some of the world's beauty in only a picture.

I like motorcycles. I recently got interested in the two wheel machines, and that interest turned into passion when I got one of my very own motorbike late last year. Not practical when compared to cars, but I would still buy a motorbike over a car if I have to make the decision again.

Despite a lukewarm review I'm still pumped for this deck. In the words of Woody Harrelson from NYSM2 "I'm not gonna let you yuck my yum!" On another note aside from everything cards I make music, play board and video games, basketball, do photography, mograph, miniature painting, drawing, to name a few...
Finally t11 got some non standard faces, i love it. My biggest hobby outside of magic is dancing, especially West Coast Swing

Not sure if you noticed, but the Js are fish hooks.
The back might be little boring but its not too bad, gives it the complicated but clean look.

I am a Playing Cards collector and my other hobby is woodworking. Although I have little space for large projects, at the moment I am building a kind of closet with shelves to store my collection of decks.
Collecting cards has taken over my previous hobby of collecting 'transforming robots', as it is more interesting, and much friendlier on the wallet. I also do a bit of board and RPG gaming as well
I love running and anything with music.
Been trying my hand at photography. More specifically, fire performer photography at night. So having a Navigator deck to help cool off after a long evening may do just the trick. LOL

I am actually a sound engineer, as well as play in a few rock n roll bands, in the Detroit, MI Metropolitan area. As of late, I’ve been working on designing some cabinetry and hand-built wooden deck displays, alongside my very own, Lil Ms. Wake! Ha! We are even considering designing decks in the future, starting our own brand, AND tattooing ourselves with identical Playing Card Themed Designs, hand-drawn by her! A very exciting era, not only during my alone time, but also consistently with the wifey!

now this was tougher than i thought. It took me some minutes, but i guess if i have to name something it would be my love for movies. I prob rewatched every blu-ray that i own at least 3 times(and we are talking about 100+ blu-rays). while rewatching them i do practice sleight of hand.

Outside of collecting cards I enjoy Archery on the weekends, it's a great sport where you can really focus on a target lol .. great review, I agree this deck wasn't what I'd expected; more colours on the tuck and backs could have made a difference, and the face cards didn't make sense tbh

love this deck. I'm really into gold metallic ink on white cards right now...so that helps. Also loving my white Artisans alongside these. So much gold ink!! Outside of collecting playing cards, I'm an amateur audio engineer. I record my friends band pretty often, and it's always super fun.

This deck is interesting. From the original pictures, I totally thought they had gone with a few different colors of ink. It very dissapointing that they went monochrome again. I am a sucker for custom court cards though. Anyway, outside of playing cards/magic, I enjoy speedcubing (the times solving of Rubik's Cubes), and filmaking. I actually just got a Canon M50, so I'm super hyped to start making some videos with it.
I was pleasantly surprised by this deck, too. When I’m not collecting playing cards I am working on my other card hobby: Teaching how to read fortunes with Tarot cards on my RUclips channel. (Although I prefer the title “Cartomancer” over “Fortuneteller.”) 😄

Mostly video games, and taking some world travels [a Navigator of sorts]. But mostly comes down to being with family and creating experiences.
Outside of collecting decks which is turning into an all consuming mania.... I like simple 1 player video games and continuously adding more TV and Movie content to my home run media server (over 75 TB in storage capability currently)
I don’t really do much outside of cards as I love them so much however I do do abit of gaming on Xbox so yea I acc kind of like these cards and would go great with my theory 11 collection

I'm a huge starwars fan even though I've had some disappointment in the past few years and love video games.
I like the card because everything not just sole focus is on the tuck box their are some balance between it I like biking and swimming
I liked the Navigators. It is so great that they finally got around to custom courts, aces and jokers! I hope that is a foretelling of things to come with most of their new decks having custom faces. Perhaps that is just wishful thinking on my part. Nice to see Lady Wake again. In addition to collecting playing cards, I am actively involved in Scouting.
I am a martial artist. I am doing my test to do my black belt next week and I also have some weapon training. I am trained to use a sword and a variety of melee weapons and I am very adept at using a bow. Though strangely I have never used a gun. I am also a linguist and my goal is to learn 10 languages and I am up to 5 right now. English, French, Filipino, Japanese and Spanish.

Outside cards I like to play the saxophone and organize outdoor activities. Its a kind of scouting but it is called different where I live.
A hobby I have outside of cards is drumming, it’s to just go on my kit and drum away after a long day at college.
