Angel Guts is super underrated imo. The synths and drums sound so chunky and great. And despite the minimal approach, there's a lot of texture and detail surrounding each track. Def one of my favorite albums from this decade.
Xiu xiu is a great band, but their music exhausts me so much that I rarely dive deeper into their discog. Its so weird to watch you describe their stuff with so much enthusiasm. Great video, but forget deserved better

Jamie "Xiu Xiu" Xiutewart has long been one of the most truly creative & unique artists in music, and his body of work is filled with tasty diverse sounds that are emblematic of forward thinking musician who is not afraid to be bold and take risks. And you certainly xiummed up Xiu Xiu well, by saying, "fans can always expect to be surprised to see what doors and xiound dimensions, Xiu Xiu/Jamie Xiutewart will open for next." As much as I enjoyed this, I think I need to watch it again, after I've had my morning coffee enema, because even with the CC turned on, my wee brain couldn't keep up, so I am glad this is here on youtube for repeated listenings. Thank you again, David Rowe and most of all thank you to Jamie XIU XIU Stewart for his work.

I'm so glad I stumbled on your video. Whatever your choices & tastes are regarding Jamie, it's said with genuine passion. Got lucky, saw him perform with Caralee in Paris & Toulouse long long ago, got my pacman pink tee signed all over, chatted a bit, yook pictures, the fan things ... I wouldn't have ranked the albums in the same order of course but what matters is that we heard him, we liked him (and some) and nothing was ever the same after. Thanks for sharing.

I enjoyed your video a lot, it is nice to hear someone talk about xiu xiu´s music with passion, i am a huge fan since I can remember and I always wish I had someone to talk about their music with depth. Also, I believe the witch song at the end of La Foret, has something to do with the Tsunami that occurred in previous years, or so I read in some interview about how it talks about a witch that came from under the ocean. I think my favorite Xiu xiu album has to be Angel guts, just for how depraved it is in a beautiful way, I saw them live for the second time during that tour and damn! the drums sounded like huge earthquakes in songs like Archie´s fades or Lawrence Liquors. Anyway, i ran into your video today and im glad I did. Just subscribed too. =)
I find it funny how you thought Knife Play was gonna be the most controversial one because of how low it is and not DGIHM lol. Anyways, solid video. This actually got me into Angel Guts when I'd originally just written it off for having such a simplified sound compared to most other Xiu projects. Dear god I hate myself is not distinct? lol. He wrote the entire album for his take on pop bc he has a love for it and after Morrisey came out with one. ALSO apple for a brain is so amazingly written. “JS am come to me I’ll ruin you” lol.
Holy cow are you nuts (respectfully said, lol). I love Nina and I love Xiu Xiu. I love anything unrestrained so naturally they are two of my idols, Nina and Jamie (who I had the pleasure to meet and take a photo with and keep up an email correspondence. Very insanely kind artist)..... and with that said. the Nina covers is by far the weakest, unless you count ambient projects that aren't listed. I agree with your placement of A Promise. but I don't see how you could put that album at 1 and put Knife Play (the best one) THAT far back. Forget and Dear God I Hate Myself are also top 5 worthy. I just couldn't disagree more with anything but putting A Promise and Fab Muscles up high enough. But I totally respect that you are shining a light on Xiu Xiu nonetheless. Great vid even though I don't agree.
I actually can't get into albums like angel guts and GWBOF.. because angel guts was just a bit too overly provocative, with black dick sounding almost like a parody of the more bluntly personal emotions I wanted like in a promise or the 2012 live show of fast car.. girl with basket of fruit also felt too.. obtuse compared to the blunt pain i wanted Maybe it's just my emo wants for something more immediately lovable and pained
