What a great video, excellent job and loved how truthful this video is. It was not edditied as being a one shot repair but as what we would all be going through doing this project, thank you for such a real life repair. Thank you!
Excellent video! I have rebuilt several Kitchenaid mixers over the years and have always said that anyone who can turn a screwdriver can fix them. I will certainly be sharing your videos to whomever needs convincing that they are capable of doing their own Kitchenaid repair. Your video captures the reality of the minor struggles (and solutions) you run into while disassembling and reassembling the mixer. Well done!
Thanks for making this video. My Pro 600 is about 20 years old, never been serviced and no service centers in my area. I was trying to fix my oil leak and was baffled on how to remove that thingy that needed the special tool. (Split ring). Helped me tremendously. My only comment is that you need to use way more grease than you did. Like the whole gear housing should be packed. Great job! Save me about $700.
I’m so happy you found this helpful! I feel your pain about the thought of having to replace the machine! And it’s not even necessary so I am sad the brand doesn’t do more to promote repairs or to guide us on how to do it (like telling us which pliers we need or how much grease to use)
Well good for you!! You made the repair perfectly well and you gained confidence at the same time which is a great thing. Very nice!! BTW, you do need to add more grease when you get the chance.
Not sure how I stumbled upon your channel but I am glad I did! You made fixing and documenting a KitchenAid mixer entertaining! Also, you have an infectious smile! You've gained a subscriber, looking forward to more of your content 😎
Congratulations Nice Job Good suggestion making videos of disassembling 👏🤗 Yet, as others have said you definitely need to pack more grease on the gears I recently picked up a KitchenAid at a Goodwill Store. Store Manager said the woman said she was redecorating her kitchen, that's why she giving it away She wanted a Blue one More than likely she noticed what I noticed Oil When I got it home, I ran it for a while to make sure there was no electrical smell to make sure the brushes were good No electrical smell That's when I noticed after setting awhile that a little bit of oil was there Went to RUclips and put in the question Why is there Oil on my KitchenAid Came across a very good video of disassembling and changing the Grease 4 oz were in the machine, so 4 oz had to go back into the machine It means packing it onto the gears One video I watched was total disassembly of the Unit and adjusting the speeds Similar to what you did Your KitchenAid is the larger version In the video the person was working on a Tilt version Mine is a Tilt KitchenAid I've owned the KitchenAid for 3 days now I haven't disassembled yet I made a pizza dough Surprisingly there's no Oil Two reasons the grease breaks down 1) the machine is used a lot and run consistently 2) The machine Sets too long not used the grease breaks down
Thank you for sharing! I did open it up and pack more grease but I probably added half my tube of grease. So probably 2 ounces maximum… I could open it up again and basically pack it in as you suggested. Seems so crazy to use so much but I can see how too little would be very problematic 😬 Somebody in the comments suggested running the machine every week to keep the grease « fluffy » because as you pointed out, it breaks down if the machine sits unused for weeks or months on end. I am definitely appreciating all the tips people are sending me. It’s so helpful!
I have had this machine since the early 2000s (maybe since 2004-ish?) and this is the first time I had to do any kind of repair on it. I use it regularly and I’ve always loved it. Based on my experience, I think it’s quite reliable. I think the planetary assembly part falling is an issue many users have had, but that’s fixable (as long as you have the part and the right pliers for the job). Hope that helps!
@@Bakeschool thank you. The information was very helpful. I am presently considering purchasing one that was used twice for 200. I have also read the older machines prior to the ownership change are the ones that are built like a tank. Note I agree with many others in the comment area regarding that amt of grease you used. There is a website called Mr mixer which shows many repair videos and they do use lots of grease. Thank you
You definitely needed to pack some more grease in there. Doesn’t have to be filled at the top, but you definitely should be liberal with it. Also, you did a great job, but you should test it before you go to the trouble of putting the cover back on just in case there’s an issue. 🌞👍
Thanks for the tip! I really wasn’t sure how much to put and now that I know it’s so easy to open up and I’ve gotten used to dismantle it, makes adding grease easier 😅
I hope you put all of that 3oz tube of grease in later. Reallt should have ~4oz. Shame you didn't find Mr. Mixer before. His regrease kit is pricey, $50, but only realky need the grease ($20) and gasket ($10). He has the right snap ringnpliers for $20, and the planet assembly for $75.
The planetary assembly detached over time - I think it’s a known design flaw as far as I can tell. One day, when I was lowering the bowl after mixing butter and sugar, the assembly came down with the bowl
You need to place grease on the lower planetary assembly and shaft, plus under the top rotary bearings don't be frightened of putting too much Food Grade Grease on the unit as it will move around the gearbox etc
@Bakeschool I've just serviced own KitchenAid 5KPM5BR Mixer I put a tub of grease in the gear housing replaced all gears & shafts plus motor brushes, I got mine used it didn't have anything so I ended up buying a bowl work dough hook & pastry beater, in all it wasn't cheap for all those parts mostly from Amazon, as KitchenAid in the UK don't want to supply parts to the consumer but under the right to repair they shouldn't put up walls, So upon looking at the KitchenAid in USA 🇺🇸 they have all the parts & far cheaper than Amazon or Ebay ! Has anyone had parts from KitchenAid UK 🇬🇧 without the Brickwall of send it in for repair at £179,00 I'm retired Aerospace Defence Test Consultant Engineer, so I prefer to repair everything myself, I take great pride in doing everything myself 👍 I've recently purchased 4 of their cooking books 📚 Hardback from Amazon they are doing those at a special price, I always love to make my own bread, nothing like fresh bread 🍞 and butter 🧈 melting into the warm bread 🍞 dipping that into homemade lentil soup 🍲 😋

I have that KitchenAid mixer! Got it 15 yrs ago. Thank you for your Video!❤
Thank you SOOOO much for showing us what to do!!!!! I can't afford to replace my KitchenAid and can't live without it.

Really helped me out - nice job!

Yet, as others have said you definitely need to pack more grease on the gears
I recently picked up a KitchenAid at a Goodwill Store.
Store Manager said the woman said she was redecorating her kitchen, that's why she giving it away
She wanted a Blue one
More than likely she noticed what I noticed Oil
When I got it home, I ran it for a while to make sure there was no electrical smell to make sure the brushes were good
No electrical smell
That's when I noticed after setting awhile that a little bit of oil was there
Went to RUclips and put in the question
Why is there Oil on my KitchenAid
Came across a very good video of disassembling and changing the Grease
4 oz were in the machine, so 4 oz had to go back into the machine
It means packing it onto the gears
One video I watched was total disassembly of the Unit and adjusting the speeds
Similar to what you did
Your KitchenAid is the larger version
In the video the person was working on a Tilt version
Mine is a Tilt KitchenAid
I've owned the KitchenAid for
3 days now
I haven't disassembled yet
I made a pizza dough
Surprisingly there's no Oil
Two reasons the grease breaks down
1) the machine is used a lot and run consistently
2) The machine Sets too long not used the grease breaks down
Thank you for sharing! I did open it up and pack more grease but I probably added half my tube of grease. So probably 2 ounces maximum… I could open it up again and basically pack it in as you suggested. Seems so crazy to use so much but I can see how too little would be very problematic 😬

How many years have u owned the 600 prior to issue? Considering buying 1. Wondering how reliable this particular model is. Great job 👏

I'm hoping I can salvage mine! Mine is about 24 or 25 years old and I am desperate for the meat grinder. . .I use it to make Swedish meatballs!!

Thanks for the tip about running the mixer before closing it up! Very smart!

You could go a little heavier on the grease. Regardless, you did a great job!

@@Bakeschool And run your machine on 6-7 for 3 minutes each week, if you're not using it. Keeps that grease fluffy.
You have two bowl mixers you must do a lot of beak treats

How did you break it ?

@@Bakeschool so much for heavy duty mixer 😅

Thank you! I added more grease everywhere, including the parts I missed the first time ‘round!
