Obligatory fun fact everyone saves for this episode: The actress that plays Jenny( Georgia Elizabeth Moffett), is the daughter of actor Peter Davison, the Fifth Doctor, who showed up in the last minisode. This episode always moves me to tears. I fall in love with Jenny, am joyful that the Doctor isn't alone, and then my heart breaks when Jenny dies, and finally at the end fills with hope that some day Jenny will find the Doctor again and make him so very proud with her stories of all her adventures. 😭
Jenny came back to life a lot later, and it happened instantly, and she didn't change her face. The Source was also called the "breath of life", and is gold in color, similar to regeneration energy so could be mistaken easily. It is more likely the Source resurrected her.
The Doctor carrying an improbable amount of random crap in his pockets is a recurring gag, starting in the classic era. He's claimed in the past that they're bigger on the inside.
This episode is worth it just for the Doctor's "A man who never would" speech, superb acting from David. Plus Donna being brilliant as ever figuring out the mystery behind the war, and Martha making me emotional over a purple fish creature 😅
Timey some family stuff all round Georgia Moffat is the daughter of 5th Doctor Peter Davidson and is now married to David Tennant . As the come daughter of the Doctor she really shines in this one . The story is really good with Martha stranded with the Hath . A tearjerking end which has a silver lining . It would be great to see Jenny in a future episode .
Unfortunantely I blinked and now I'm stuck in 1980, but because of a wibbly wobbly timey wimey thingy I was able to write and post this comment. I really enjoy this episode and the speech at the end is one of my favorites from the Tenth Doctor. Also, the Doctor mentions being at dad when he was inside the TARDIS with Rose during the episode with the girl and the living drawings during the 2012 olympics.
Also its a fallacy to think that Jenny regenerated like a Timelord though cool as that would have been, she was actually brought back to life by the residual stuff from the terraforming process 🥰
Fun Fact: Jenny was played by David Tennant's wife, who is also Peter Davidsons daughter (5th doctor) so she is The Doctors Daughter but also the Doctors Wife while being another the Doctors Daughter
The Doctor's Daughter is played by The Doctor's Daughter, was in the episode "The Doctor's Daughter", married The Doctor and had The Doctor's Daughter(s)
The Doctortold Rose, in Fear Her, that he had kids before. But his family was gone. If you can find it, watch the pilot of the very first doctor who episode, “an unearthly child “. It’s only about twenty minutes. It will answer some questions. It’s been removed from streaming but I got it on DVD. As far as the stuff in the doctor’s pockets, they are time lord pockets so bigger on the inside. This episode ought to have been stupid, but I enjoyed it and teared up at the end. I loved that we saw how smart Donna is…and also she’s smart in a way the Doctor is not.
Watching this episode, and then finding out that they get married, makes you look a little closer at the way to interact with each other. You can definitely tell That there is a lot of chemistry there.
In terms of the Doctor's family tree, by the time this aired back in 2008, we knew that the Doctor had a granddaughter called Susan though the expanded universe had added to this and then had multiple answers that all conflict with each other, though most accept The Doctor being a grandfather to Susan. For example: 1)some Books and audiodramas gave the Doctor a brother who called himself Irving Braxiatel. And Braxiatel had a daughter making them the Doctor's niece. Some stories suggest and at a couple of points it was going to be implied that the Master was actually the Doctors Brother 2-Parents)one book had a former companion of the Doctor be the Doctors mum. The 1996 TV movie had the Doctor remember spending time watching the night sky with his dad and the plot of the American revival would have been trying to find the Doctors dad. 3-Spouses)The Doctor had been married to a Timelord woman called Patience (Susan's biological grandmother). And later got married to a woman called Scarlette to give him some stability after the events of the War In Heaven (World War 1 to the Last Great Time War's World War 2) 3-Children)The Doctor had Susan's parent (some debate on whether this was Susan's mum or dad.) with Patience. Later he adopted a girl called Miranda and raised her. 4-grandchildren+ Great Grandchildren)In addition to Susan, some Comics gave him two more Grandchildren in John and Gillian. Though later Comics said his travels with John and Gillian were dreams so whether they were ever real is up for debate. Miranda later went on to have a child called Zezanne (though Zezanne becomes an alternative Susan so...).Susan also adopted 3 orphans after stopping the Daleks in 2164 (later Expanded Universe stories also give her a other son called Alex Campbell and a Daughter, but these came out after 2008). Making the Doctor a father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. One book suggested that Timelords reproduce artificially using devices called Looms (a bit like the machine that made Jenny) where every house/family gives a DNA sample and then all the samples are loomed together having bits of each family member (e.g bit of 'Grandparents', bit of 'Aunts' and 'Uncles', bits of 'Cousins', Bits of 'siblings' etc.). This giving the Doctor 45 Cousins but Looms being canon is usually ignored in 2024. Other stories suggested that Susan was not the Doctor's granddaughter but instead the Granddaughter of one of the Timelords founding fathers, who got reincarnated (as in literal reincarnation as opposed to regeneration) as the Doctor. But in 2024 most ignore that part (though some keep the bit about the Timelord founding father being the Doctor.
As many people have mentioned about the marriage between david and Georgia a small fact it was georgias son ty who became friends with david as he was still dating Sophia myles (madam de pompador) after they broke up david and Georgia started dating and david would officially adopt ty as well they now have 5 kids together (ty is also an actor and is in house of the dragon). The guy you thought you recognized played gendrie in game of thrones
The Doctor met the daughter of the Doctor on the episode "The Doctor's Daughter", then went on to marry the Doctor's Daughter and have a beautiful... bunch of children.
Something that I always notice about the scene where The Doctor holds Cobb at gunpoint is the music a very intense drumbeat. Maybe not a rhythm of four but it does call to mind a certain other Time Lord...
Jenny didn’t regenerate, the source brought her back to life. It’s properly mentioned in the show even going forward but no one (especially Jenny) is born with regenerations. Being born a Gallifreyian you would live one life span, the children of Gallifrey go through a process that turns them into a Time Lord, with 12 regenerations giving the Time Lord 13 lives to spend. I guess that’s also why the Doctor was so mean to Jenny because he knew that if she travelled with him, he could watch her grow old and pass on.

Just leaving a comment here because I don’t see anyone else mention it but the mark the Doctor gets on his hand is the same mark as the kid from “empty child” episode in season 1. The one with the gasmask. Not sure why they reused the symbol and I don’t think it’s acknowledged by the writers much.

And Jenny doesn't regenerate - I think the Source energy interacted with her Gallifreyan DNA to restore her.
The Doctor just had his hand shoved into a machine that forced him to reproduce against his will. (And it obviously was NOT fun for him at all.) It's not surprising that he might be feeling a tiny bit violated and just plain weird. Hardly any wonder that it might take a bit of time for him to accept the situation, especially after he tells Donna about his long-ago family on Gallifrey, which is obviously an extremely painful subject for him. I'm a little annoyed at Donna, who I usually love, for making fun of him in that one scene just before he opens up about it.
