    So the issue is that a sign which is not pointing at a statue that, as far as we know, isn't problematic could be seen as a sign that could be pointing at a statue that we may find out is problematic someday? Insanity.

      So the current problem isn't fixing the current issues, its the time wasting trying to avoid future issues that lead to nothing getting done and creating more issues and extreme time delays. Its how government workers work on the same project for 15 years, when originally it was only supposed to take 8.

      My question is: "why the heck does it matter?". The statue is 500 meters away. It's only considered "pointing at it" if you reeeeally want it to be.

    To be fair, I was expecting to hear how the land for the schools and churches and local communities of which Sir Stanford was so supportive was acquired.

    Maybe this still seems comical to you Aussies. But here in the States, I can't tell you how many times I've seen a statue and researched who it was and found something I didn't like, then looked for a sign nearby and found out which administration built the sign and then called for their impeachment. It's like every other week these days.

      it's making comedy out of real issues..........

    • @icevariable9600
      @icevariable9600 5 месяцев назад

      Not exactly. To be more precise, here in the states it’s organizations like the United Daughters of the Confederacy (who venerated the KKK) who wanted to commemorate Confederate soldiers with statues…60+ years after the Civil War.
      See, the South is still fighting the Civil War and believes in “States Rights” when it’s convenient for them, and big government when it’s also convenient for them. They think the Civil War was a “just cause” when in reality they were insurrectionists and treasonists who lost the war, and by default; Losers.
      So, the South romanticizes the war, and slavery, which is what the war was fought about, or to be more precise, it was the reason why 7 states seceded from the Union, even though Southerners and Conservatives alike continue to claim it wasn’t about slavery at all.
      See, my dear Aussies, conservatives (here in the states) are ignorant and afraid of history and literally make it illegal to teach history (as seen in Florida, per Desantis) and continue to claim victimhood, all while perpetuating heinous things, while blaming those very things on BLM and an imaginary Antifa. They’re really quite the joke.

      It’s a hilarious to be honest. All historical figures will inevitably have something in their history that is unpalatable by today’s standards. Your capital city for example is named after a slave owner. Alexandria in Egypt was named after Alexander the Great who was no angel. History is history. One day America will have the Trump Library 😂😂😂😂

    "Imagine if we discovered anything... problematic."
    There'd be quite an egg on the face if they proudly proclaiming a statue of a dude that rounded up dozens of Aboriginal women and children, shot and desecrated their bodies. Was kinda hoping that something like that was going to be found in the episode. "Oh, God, it's Jimmy Saville all over again!"

    • @JJamahJamerson
      @JJamahJamerson 5 месяцев назад +17

      Don’t completely agree, but I believe statues should give context, you can celebrate people’s achievements while acknowledging their failures. Also statues celebrating hate should be moved to museums where they can better be surrounded by context without becoming a beacon of hate… or melted down into cannons, free canons for everyone.
