@THENAMEISQUICKMAN the reason why NEO-GEO has the best graphics and sound? Well it has two circuit boards with four pin connectors. Another thing to point out with the SNES version is because of the Mode 7 screen zooming, as a consequence of that there's no parallax scrolling since Mode 7 happens only on 1 plane or video layer. The genesis version did the smart thing by ditching the zooming effect all together to maintain the parallax of the arcade. 😃
Damn, I stand corrected fellas! Just fired up the arcade version and after all these years of playing there's no parallax scrolling at all which is crazy to me because I would have testified in court that there was. I went through a similar moment not too long ago with the arcade version of Altered Beast where that lacks parallax scrolling as well while the Genesis version had added it. But yo don't play me for a sucker as if scaling effects never happened on Genesis when many games like Super Hang On, Thunderblade, Space Harrier II, and Road Rash series had it through sprite/tile animation or software manipulation. Just because there's no native hardware scaling doesn't mean it's far-fetched or impossible when plenty of developers attempted it in one way or another.
@aryasmayodi8115 Can't tell if you're joking or not. 94 tends to be the gold standard. Has an active online community and lots of people are still very fond of it. "Newer" isn't necessarily "better." Iirc, 98 had a newer engine that didn't quite have all the kinks worked out. 94 (and 96 imho) are classic 16-bit hockey at their almost finest (Mutant League is my top, personally, for Sega 😅, and Stanley Cup Hockey would be my top for snes).
Hey Dan and Pat! I just watched the episode, you guys were awesome as always! I didn't even realize that there was a new episode being released cause... The sketch was probably my favorite, you guys deserves the best, stay safe and keep up the good work! PD: I cant wait for the livestream of this game! specially on vs mode.😊
Great video! One thing, the Neo Geo AES version of Art of Fighting isn't actually a port. Basically, it is the full arcade PCB in a slightly different format. If you had a copy of Art of Fighting for the MVS with a converter, it would work flawlessly on an AES and vice-versa. Addendum- I have always felt the Sega Genesis did a much better job with Neo Geo games (graphically) than the Snes (or TG-16). I believe that is because the Sega Genesis and Neo Geo/AES/MVS/CDZ share very similar hardware in key areas. They both, for example, have a Motorola 68K and a Zilog Z-80 co-processor.
Although Neo Geo and Genesis share Motorola 68k and Z-80 CPUs, they have nothing to do with graphics. The way the Neo Geo handles graphics is VERY different from the Genesis, SNES, PC Engine and every other console from that era. The real kudos go to the team who redesigned all the art to work with the Sega Genesis limitations.
@MaxwelThuThu You misunderstood what I was saying. As the architecture was very known to Takara, it enabled them to pull the very best out of the machine. There would be very few surprises for a development team that normally builds games on the AES/MVS to also work on the Genesis. The biggest hurdle would have to be the limited ROM space and Sega's VDP, which, as you know, is quite a bit weaker than SNK's NEO-B1 graphics chip. Addendum- I talked about the processors inside the Genesis/AES because that is very well known to most. The average guy, I think, gets that. I didn't want to get into the weeds (not that you did either). I have often wondered what Takara actually thought about porting their games to the Snes? Talk about a departure from the industry norms. It is definitely not cut from the same arcade cloth as Sega's 16-bit console. Well... then you consider the TG-16 and their impeccable work on that machine...perhaps not.
@@Sinn0100 Takara ported some of SNK's Neo Geo games to 8 and 16-bit consoles (Sega Genesis, SNES, Game Boy and NES), but never developed for the Neo Geo itself. Furthermore, while the SNES port was published by Takara, it was developed by Monolith; regarding the Genesis version, it was published by Sega and developed by SNK themselves.
I like this show i grew up playing the super Nintendo. This brings back so much nostalgia. This proves you dont need to swear to have a good classic show

Another great episode! This is one of the few games I was able to play on both consoles and was one of my favorite fighting games back in the day. And yes, I also loved the SNES version of Mr. Big´s theme.
Wonderful video y'all & this is a childhood memory unlock for me. Art of Fighting was the first game I bought for the..Super Nintendo at Toys R' Us. It was on sale plus I had played the Arcade version a handful of times before that at a comic book shop near my childhood home. On the Arcade version I only got to Lee but I definitely logged the hours on the SNES port beating it on the hardest difficulty & even getting a near perfect run with Ryo (just blocked damage). It's very minor but one other thing the SNES port has is when a fighter is low on health, their fighting stance changes. It's a visual cue to let you know that you can activate their ultimate desperation attack. Probably makes sense it's not in the Genesis port since you can't do the moves there. Thought it's a nice, little presentation point for the SNES since neither game could showcase the visible damage that gets more pronounced the more damage a fighter takes as in the Arcade. The ending exclusive to the SNES version at the time kind of blew me away. One would expect that type of lengthier ending in an RPG, not a fighting game. Sure it's the only ending but at least Yuri yells "Stop Ryo!" or "Stop Robert!" depending on who you beat the game with. Fatal Fury was the more popular & polished series but it was also definitely the Ryo in trying to best mimic Street Fighter 2's gameplay while Art of Fighting tried doing something differently.
Surprised Dan Hibiki didn't show up in this episode, I mean he was made from parts of Ryo and Robert and then turned into a complete joke...I mean, Ryo and Robert would have killed the guy, for sure!
Here's some stuff worth pointing out about these ports (mostly the SNES one): - The SNES port was developed by Monolith Corp. (a "ghost-developer" SNK had to develop their games for other consoles) and Takara. The SEGA Genesis port was developed by SEGA themselves. - Some of the graphic details missing on the SNES version are due to the censorship of the US version. The fizz coming out of the broken alcohol bottles and the "Bar" sign in Mac's Bar are in the japanese version. - Mr. Big's theme in SNES AOF1 is a completely original track made by Takara's Seisuke Ito, who arranged the soundtrack of the SNES port (banger theme btw). - The ending of the SNES version was also made exclusively for that port. The arcade ending ends exactly like the Genesis port. The new ending was probably made to promote Art of Fighting 2, which was just a few months away from release. Good episode btw! I forgot to mention that, my bad 😅

@thedrunkmonkshow I have the NEO-GEO AES version of Art of Fighting That's how I remember but yeah, There's few scaling games for GENESIS.
Still love y’all’s videos ❤
Still love you coming by!
Next : NHL 94. (Every album shown was released in 1994)
Ohhh someone else suggested Hit The Ice, but NHL 94 makes more sense. Either way, I'm all for a hockey episode.
NHL 94 is too old, it's better to review NHL 98 which is more modern
Aw man... now I know how Editor Dylan feels. How many actual differences could there be in a sports game?
@@NotABot55I miss now in the 90’s.
@aryasmayodi8115 Can't tell if you're joking or not. 94 tends to be the gold standard. Has an active online community and lots of people are still very fond of it. "Newer" isn't necessarily "better."
Iirc, 98 had a newer engine that didn't quite have all the kinks worked out.
I was at my birthday party, and I was only able to get back to "real life" today... 47, baby!!!
Cheers!
Oh, and before i forget... THIS IS CONSOLE WARRRRSSSS!
Happy 47th Birthday!
Happy birthday! Hitting 41 myself, on Friday
@@ConsoleWars Woot, thanks, guys!
@@DecayNJ Thanks, man! And happy birthday to you as well!
i have a little dark day today but your video help me so much guys, Art of Fighting is one of my favorite games on the Genesis and i enjoy this video so much! The sketch was probably my favorite, you guys deserves the best, stay safe and keep up the good work!
PD: I cant wait for the livestream of this game! specially on vs mode.😊
Glad to help in tough times. Hang in there, you’ll get through it!
I love you guys while i was getting a divorce your videos got me through those hard times thank you guys your awsome
Damn, these guys are really like Console Combat, only with much better hair and less money to splash on Neo Geos and PC Engines.
That made me laugh out loud
@MaxwelThuThu
You misunderstood what I was saying.
I watch yall alot!! all the way from JAMAICA!!
Ive been watching this channel alot lately, dunno the lore behind Greg but I did enjoy him, but I also enjoy the new guy alot too. Keep it up gus!
I like this show i grew up playing the super Nintendo. This brings back so much nostalgia. This proves you dont need to swear to have a good classic show
This has probably been stated before, but all your videos are essentially a 'like' from the very start as I know each one will be great!
Much appreciated!
13:51 “Jack King”.
Hah. I see you.
34 yeare,we are still arguing Which console is the best 😂. Unbelievable.. i love your work guy's 🎉
I’m not sure why but this might be my favorite console wars yet. Great job guys.
It’s nice to watch your videos to remind myself of the cool games I played as a kid. Also, your channel reminds me of YT from back in the day. Hope you guys have been well!
Next episode is Hockey Bands! Such an underrated gem mixing sport and music
Underrated gem
You did an episode on my favorite fighting game on the SNES!!! So cool!
It's good to be the Ken.
5:39 Good job Dan on keeping it together...just! Great vid as always:)
It wasn't the original line, we were messing around. I barely made it through as I am laughing in the very next second
That Star Wars clip made me laugh so loud I woke up a kid.
Nice!
Didn't have pink gi unfortunately
Here's some stuff worth pointing out about these ports (mostly the SNES one):
- The SNES port was developed by Monolith Corp.
God I love you guys. Please stay around for a long time. I need this channel.
We're not planning on going anywhere
Votre Chaîne est incroyable ! Informations et anecdotes inédites ! Et cet humour 🤣.
Great to see you guys still killing it. Thanks.
The costume bits always get me!
So happy you guys are back. I must have more
Thank you for continuing to upload your videos, I am always waiting for your videos, God bless you, keep up well.
So nice of you
Great episode as always, guys! 😊 I've been watching Console Wars for about 10 years now! Keep up the awesome content for us who grew up during this amazing era of gaming! 👍🏻
Im so glad you guys are still going as a channel
Was going to say, funny enough, the Sega version's ending is arcade accurate, lol.
Great video as always. I can't believe the Console Wars guys made a video based on the Game Sack gag based off of the Console Wars guys. It's like poetry, it rhymes.
Its always a pleasure to watch Console Wars 👏
Always a pleasure read such nice comments!
A great...ok a man at least once said "I don't like the Art of Fighting but I love being the King of Fighters!" Great ep as always and hope you two are feeling better soon
I have the following game suggestions, even if the former was mentioned a while ago:
- Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures (Worst of)
- The Flintstones: Treasure of Sierra Madrock vs. The Flintstones (Genesis) (Best of)
The ending being a cliffhanger makes it accurate to the Neo Geo version, it ended the same way but I can see your point
Love you guys, awesome to find out you are still uploading
More to come!
One thing I've loved about this series is the theme music. Can't help but whistle it proudly every time.
Ok the 2-second Dust in the Wind out of nowhere (played flawlessly) threw me into a fit of laughter. Love your shit. Never change.
Always down for some love for the SNK fighting titles. And that double take on the guitar skit for the THAT'S IT was class. Fantastic episode guys.
Snes port is pretty impressive considering how "big" the original was. And Mr Big theme is definitely the best one of its generation
Awesome episode .Thank you!!!
Wow, there's a lot of console wars videos to catch up! Why weren't those recommended until now? :o
That’s been happening. Lots of good episodes to catch up on!
Another fantastic episode, you guys just keep getting better and better!! And what video game music is at 7:12? Is it from Art of fighting?
Yup. Sega version. Credits
@@ConsoleWarsthanks👍🏼
The SNES version feels a little too floaty and unresponsive to me, I'll give gameplay to the Genesis version for that reason.
Can't wait for the next episode covering the cult classic "Hockey Albums". Such a great game!
I’ve watched a bunch of these. So why am I ALWAYS surprised at how different the versions are?
Anyway, great video!
Thanks!
Episode suggestion Mario paint vs Art Alive… Mario Paint will win hands down but the before and after skits will be amazing lol
Earthworm gym joke is too good 😂 you guys are too good
We sometimes realize words sound like other words
I didn't know the SNES had scaling. It makes sense because of mode 7, but no other fighters, like SamSho, had it even if arcade one did.
The sequel to AoF also features zoom effects, but was only released in Japan (Ryuuko no Ken 2).
That intro was hilarious. I must admit, you guys have drastically improved in those intros because a lot of them felt a little long. This was perfect.
I get looking at it objectively, but despite the extra music and sfx in the SNES version, the Genesis sounds way better. It’s honestly worth it to just hear the Sega music. IMO.
Nice to see you again guys.
Was just playing the arcade version on Internet Archive the other day; great stuff as always
really good video guys, love you hard :)
like always you take the time to add humor and some content asides from the just the games comparation.
thx for your hard work.
lol the earthworm gym joke xD
Glad you enjoyed it!
Neo-Geo: "Give me my game back!"
Great video.
I love Art of Fighting. Since it was the closest that I could get to the Neo Geo version at the time, I got the game when it was first released on the SNES. Still have my boxed cart.
Eventually, would get it the authentic version on Neo Geo MVS, AES, and Neo CD. Then PC-Engine CD, the PS2 compilation, Wii Virtual Console, and finally the Genesis.
The wig budget on this video is out of control.
would have been funny "best presentation goes to..." and credits rolling ending the video 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That is good!
Batman: so does that mean I’m the dc version of Ken masters
10:31 Because, fun fact, the arcade game ends that way too
Still no reason for it not to be in the Sega game though.
BEST CHANNEL EVER
Drink a beer play a game, used to love that channel, but i had forgotten all about it!
Time to pay them boys a visit!
I was gonna say sega didn't have the characters names and pics during the fights to to also I haven't seen a console wars video in a while keep it up your videos and you are amazing love your videos lol lol
Welcome back. Don’t stay away too long!
@@ConsoleWars yea thanks your amazing love your videos i used to have a sega genesis years ago tho now i use a sega genesis emulator called fusion to play sega games i used an emulator for super nintendo games aswell love old games they are nostalgic and fun to play to lol lol
Awesome episode, you guys rock
Love your guys videos, wish you guys were able to upload more, because they always are my most favorite gaming themed youtube videos, always highly entertaining!
I’d love to see a Console Wars episode with NeoGeo as a character.
But in all seriousness the SNES version is superior to the NeoGeo original as it has a more fleshed-out story.
When World Heroes is covered, do have a NeoGeo character.
@Consolewars it may have already been mentioned but their was also Art Of Fighting Anthology for PS2.
Another great episode in the bag! Always nice to see SNK getting some love. 😁👍
Thanks!
Love your videos guys 👍
