I use to see locals coming out of the Bedford pub off-license, with big jugs of draught beer, etc, to take home. there was a public bar in those days,
which had mainly West Indians, ( Caribbeans ) playing dominos, in their stile, bashing them on to the table, for fun. the beer there was Watneys, which I did not like one bit.,
some Bedford hill prostitutes use to go in the saloon bar,, I also saw them in the bedford hill chip shop up by the high street, getting the dinner, when I came out of the chip shop, I was walking home, when one of the prostitutes said to me ", happy christmas, " and I said
" happy christmas " to her, and she said, " any business, not happy christmas " this was about 54 years ago.
I was selling beef burgers out side Balham station, when I think Desmond Dekker was playing at the Bedford pub, one night, and when lots of people came out of the pub, and made there way up to Balham station, I thought that I would be able to sell a load of burgers, but they nicked every thing including the money in my pockets
