These videos are like opening gates to a different plain of existence. Learning how an expert thinks, what the general focus and problems are and how experience helped to overcome it. Just magnificent
You're absolutely on point with these featured tutorials Scott! Just inspired with these last two videos. The exchange of ideas and knowledge between designers is a beautiful thing. I look forward to more of these styles of videos. I absolutely agree with the medium bit.. I'll sit and noodle a sketch for hours whenever I have pencil on hand haha
Mr Scott you are my biggest inspiration and your works are outstanding . I am an industrial designer and i was a kind of lost about sketching or what to sketch to completely get in to the mood . Your drawings helped me create my own world . Thanks a lot !
Hello! 4 years passed from the time you wrote this comment and i was just thinking how are you doing at this time? Hope you are doing greate! I am actually not waiting you will answer me but i just wanted to say hi :)
@@peeteisacutie8645 Hi ! Im actully doing great , specifically with my art . I have found different styles and ways to improve my lines and it works out well so far . Better late than never so thanks for at least replying and asking how im doing . How is it going on your side ? Everything good ?
@@ege5804 im doing really good this year was rough but because the pandemic i had a lot of time to focus on myself and my art. I started improving really fast and learned a lot of new styles and ways to draw. Passed talent school exams so next year will be my secondary school year on one of the best art schools in our state. Well thanks you answered made my day :) Wish you luck!
@@peeteisacutie8645 Anytime ! I guess pandemic was a good opportunity for us , artists to improve our skills . Im glad you passed the talent school exams keep following what you want with full dedication and you'll be rewarded immensely . I wish you a great career and good luck my friend :)
I just want to say that you have some very interesting videos. I like that you have guest artists and that you show their sketch books too. By watching your videos, it has inspired me to start drawing again. I stopped when I was in my early 20's due to everyday life just getting in the way of my drawing. I just turned 49 years old and really enjoy drawing again. Thanks so much for your time and effort in your videos. I too will continue to draw at least one item everyday because it's fun and very satisfying. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
Thank you to both of you for this awesome book, l spend at least a day a week looking through it. So much inspiration its impossible to take it all in, in one go.
This is just great, that's a quality artist right there, one that knows his foundations to the core and one that has excellent design skills. Really inspiring! Thanks for this :)
Strangely I was searching for a mech sketchbook today on youtube and couldn't find anything, a little while later checked my sub feed and the first thing there was this! Thought that was pretty fricken cool! Sick drawings!
Awesome. One of the takeaways I had from this video is where you mentioned you need to 'know your audience.' I had been working on a project, and showing the sketches to the client... the results were rather disappointing, and the client was becoming increasingly frustrating to work with. I thought I was helping the client to see my thought process, but the bottom line is that they are not familiar with the artists' thought process, and it just confuses them. It is really important to know your audience, and what is going to be appropriate to show them. That being said, this video was a wonderful tour through an awesome set of sketches and thumbnails - which I, as a fellow artist, thoroughly enjoyed.
The last two videos have been amazingly inspirational! I could watch these every day. I'm feeling more confident with my decision to transition ink drawings as a sketching medium. I have a tendency to overrender which slows down repetition which is essential to design. Ink forces me to think before making a mark and it forces me to move on when a drawing isn't working. The fact that the mech sketches take 5-20 minutes to create is a little shocking to me since working digitally I've had times when I could easily spend 6 hours on the first thumbnail every day.
Awesome video! It would be awesome if you made a follow up video in which darren or you made a bare bones sort of silhouette and then you both separately filled them out and finished them :o.
Just checked out his website...wow...amazing stuff on show. Not sure if anyone can answer this one but in the Mechanics section of his gallery what does he use for the colouring in of images? I'm just curious if they're things like copic markers or some digital medium.
I'd like to see his sketchbook for when he worked at Insomniac. For a while there my favorite games were consistently made by Insomniac, I've played every one of their games except Fuze and Sunset Overdrive, the Ratchet & Clank and Resistance series have always been right near the top of my list. It's interesting to see what the guy who came up with some of the weapons and chimera is capable of in a slightly different setting.
"oh no he will only show one side of the sketchbook.. we're all gonna dieee aaaaa...aa..." my brain when you said you'll only show one side of the page.. my other brain: i want him to make a video showing all the pages we did'nt see.. me: (-_- ) i totally approve of this art. gimme more.
i would kill for a decent mech game for xbox or any console, the best one was phantom crash if you could get something atarted im sure you would be a hero

It's amazing to go watch his online portfolio after watching this, such a big difference from these doodles to his finished work.

This is amazing! I'd love to do the same one day.
Darren says, "Exactly, yeah" a lot lol.

abbazabbajuice Not sure, but it was most likely my book How To Render.

🤩😍
Does anyone know what shade of copic markers he uses? and any links would be awesome,
Hi, I usually like to keep to the lighter values Copic, I find that 3 or 2 cool grey works well with the Cottonwood sketchbook paper.
What class did he take to draw like this

What’s that sketchbook called?
What's the name of the book?
