In this video I show how to make a custom forced patina using mustard. Doing a forced patina is quite simple, and using mustard gives you the ability to control how your patina looks. It only takes around 15 min for the patina to come out, so you can get a few times done in an hour. The mustard patina is by far my favourite because of the control over your design. Try anything you want, even try to write your name :). Hope you enjoy

Fantastic idea. Thanks for explaining the dark spots of the edges of the mustard. That really is a fantastic method and a beautiful design you made.
Hey. That's a good deal on boneless pork loins.
Yes, but the imitation crabmeat is rediculous!
BRAVO! Down right beautiful!
Hey, again from the future, 2021. That's the best simple system for adding character to our steel buddies. I've got an ax head that I'm working on and I've been looking for a way to get rid of the polished look as I recieved the head. Thanks again 2017 =)
Thank you. Cool looking patina.
Nice job. Thank you for showing us how to do this

I gotta say, I’ve never seen the point of stripping the coating off of my carbon steel blades but this video kinda makes me want to lol.
nice job
Mark Young thanks mark
Love it :D
Nicholas Wituik :)
Beautiful job.... that looks very cool. Is that blade carbon or stainless steel??
rat-3s are awesome knives
Gren Moyo 👍
Turned out pretty sweet ! Question= will this process work on Stainless-Steel ? Thanks for sharing this, Dave Have a great day ATB Terry God Bless
T.W. Milburn I pretty sure it won't work. there are ways to with stainless but I don't know them
if your stainless steel has some carbon in it it may work but im not sure
looked good after the first run... i wouldve just darkened them with white vinegar
How durable is the design? if using the knife does it wear off quickly?
Any idea what method of forcing patina lasts the longest or shows least signs of wear - Vinegar, mustard, coke OJ etc.?
thanx
Question. How well does the patina protect? If the knife is getting wet from time to time, would one give it a light coating of oil once in a while, or is that bad for the patterns?
i oil my patina knifes from time to time.
the knife develops its own patina over time anyway
Very good....how long time patina still keep on the knife surface? It is easy to remove?
im very curious about this too. i saw one done with vinegar and after the guy chopped a few branches it looked awful, wearing off like crazy
👍👍😊
What would happen if you left it on overnight ?
I don't think much else would happen. Try it out maybe
Didn't work on my 154cm Griptillian. Why???
@Blake839 yea I looked it up about after I did it. I am blond

i wonder if anyone has figured out that mustard, and ketchup have vinegar in them, and this is still just a vinegar patina.
