The actor category was tough, tbh I think Fiennes deserved the Oscar he delivered a better performance than Tommy Lee Jones...but for actor? Tom Hanks did as brilliant a performance in Philadelphia. At least it won best film that year :)
@Dean Bennington that's why it's called an "opinion" or preference. Hanks performance was brilliant playing a man dying of AIDS, far better than whimsical Forrest Gump but remember just because I prefer his performance over Neeson doesn't make his work any less valid or "brilliant" as well. It was a tough year with many strong performances. Far different than by today's standards.
His eyes really are extraordinary. When he first got famous, there were portrait photos in the magazines that emphasized his eyes - a really strange color combination, mostly teal, with a ring of black at the edges and a ring of gold in the center surrounding the iris. I've never seen eyes like that anywhere else. They're fully as unique as Elizabeth Taylor's famously violet eyes.
@@samanthaesra4035 He is that. And way more than that. He is feircly talented and creative - as was his mother and all his family. He is superb in this film and in many many others. He can play complex, flawed people with incredible integrity.
Very interesting discussion of a remarkable movie. I always love seeing Ralph Fiennes in his youthful prime. He has the most stunning turquoise colored eyes.
There's something about the interview woman, no disrespect to the two actors but it's like I want to hear her talk more than them. Her questions and comments, she's brilliant- so concise, no rambling. No ass-kissing either. That said, there are no words to describe Ray Finnes performance in Schindler's list.
Something else I notice is that it sounds as though Fiennes was still "doing" Goeth's Austrian accent in this interview. Like Fiennes had affected that accent for so many months while filming that it had begun to seep into his actual voice.
I love Ralph Fiennes! So so talented! I have only seen “shorts” of this movie on YT. I’m wondering, has anyone ever noticed in some movies, not all, the evil person is always played by a handsome actor? No matter how much the make up department tries to “dirty the actor up”, they just can’t!🫢❤️🐈
The minute Ralph responds by not just giving the interviewer and the world the response they wanted (göeth was insane etc) but to go in depth about how power corrupts the mind, the interview took on the same power the film had Horrific ugly truth
I don't feel the interviewer necessarily "wanted" that response, but I do think it's an explanation (i.e., "Goeth was just crazy") many in the general public would think might be correct.
Wonderful warm human beings. Ralph Fiennes couldn't be farther from Amon Goeth. Fantastic actor! A very warm and approachable guy! Hats off to the whole cast!
Neeson and Fiennes delivered such powerful performances. Since I first saw this movie (3X) in 1994, I have said many times it is the best movie ever made. Here we are almost 30 years later and I still say that.
What Embeth said about Goeth being sexually attracted to Helen came through clearly in the film. But as she said, he could not see her as a woman because she was a Jew.
The bit that is Oscar worthy, (dunno who beat him to it - but shouldn't have) is his whole delving into and the utter believability of the role. How is someone to portray the depraved megalomaniac that he portrayed so honestly, with the ghastly sense of fear he put into the role??.
I have a great deal of respect for Ralph Fiennes. Knowing the roll he was expected to play in this movie as one of the most unspeakable bastards in WW2 short of Hitler himself must have given him nightmares for who knows how long. A truly great actor. I hope he and those close to him realize this.
Ralph and Embeth are very thoughtful and sincere about their development of the work in the film and their own thoughts on the people they portrayed. A lot of respect for everyone involved in Schindler’s List.
ONE OF THE BEST GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE. FIENNES WAS SO SO GORGEOUS IN THE MOVIE. HE HAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL EYES IN CINEMA. FIENNES AND Mrs. DAVIDTZ SHOULD HAVE WON OSCARS. THEY WERE ROBBED. THE MOVIE SHOULD HAVE WON EVERY OSCAR NOMINATIONS IT HAD.
They say a role is made for a certain actor just look at Ralph Fiennes in a German officers uniform. Frighteningly accurate as is his cruel souless gaze
Did the woman who asks the question actually watch the movie?! At the end of the movie you can see the actress with the real Helen Hirsch. So why she was surprised
As brilliant as Schindler's List is, Ralph Fiennes gives one of the best acting jobs I have ever seen anywhere as that Nazi. He was so sadistic and evil I literally felt sick to my stomach the first time I saw the movie. I can't imagine someone waking up in the morning and going to their balcony to just randomly shoot people like they were just target practice.
I watched "SL" many many times. Few years later became fan of David Duchovny's "Californication". Didn't recognize Embeth (Helen Hirsch) in Felicia at all, believe me. Great actress and beautiful woman.
Fiennes is so real. We like to think humans arent capable of this, but the dark and sad truth is that alot of people are capable of this, provided the circumstances.
Top 6 actor performances in a history (for me, at least): 1. Al Pacino - Tony Montana, Scarface 2. Ralph Fiennes - Amon Goeth, Schindler's list 3. Peter Ustinov - Nero, Quo vadis 4. Gary Oldman - Stansfield, Leon 5. Sean Penn - Kleinfeld, Carlito's way 6. Gary Oldman - Dracula, Bram Stoker's Dracula
The interviewer isn’t flashy & ratings hungry but deliberate and thoughtful. The actors respond to that and give more careful and comprehensive answers.
at the end of the video, the interviewer says she hopes that nothing like that ever happens again... then only a few years later came the poke and the cough cough... and how did we react? We failed the test miserably.
It's interesting to me that when Fiennes describes the dehumanisation of the Jewish race by the nazi regime, he is describing perfectly how the British treated the Irish. Our hands aren't clean - and yes, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
It’s a method used to oppress so many, even today. The Jewish, the Irish, Africans, Native Americans, Asian people - I’m sure I’m forgetting many. I think it’s a method created (or at least perfected) by White Supremacy. This idea that there’s only one way to be perfect (White), to the point it even oppressed other White/European people. He described it well, I agree.
That role in Schindler´s list was perfect for him and he did not play Amon Göth, he was Amon Göth. He should definitely have won an Academy Award. As for the leading role, Tom Hanks deserved the Academy Award, but for the supporting role, Ralph Fiennes should have won.
I will never forgive the Oscars for robbing Fiennes and Nesson for best actor and supporting actor from Schindler’s List.
I agree! Great injustice! Oscars are awarded according to strange rules!
The actor category was tough, tbh I think Fiennes deserved the Oscar he delivered a better performance than Tommy Lee Jones...but for actor? Tom Hanks did as brilliant a performance in Philadelphia. At least it won best film that year :)

There is something hauntingly beautiful in this man's eyes...

Steven Spielberg actually said he picked Fiennes for the role because he had a "sexy evilness" about him.

Yes. Ralph once said that he went back to Hannah Arendt's philosophical writings on the banality of evil for inspiration.

Beautiful in "Schindler's List" and "English Patient"! His eyes are unbelievably beautiful...💖

We are looking at one of the greatest actors in the world. Ralph Fiennes is certainly on the level of Sir Laurence Olivier.
He was just as good as Marlon Brando. So was Liam Neeson
Embeth is a marvelous actress and such a beauty
Fiennes is absolutely brilliant in Schindler's list. It's one of the great acting performances.
Good Lord she is breathtakingly beautiful.
Embeth is a great actress and her performance alongside Robin Williams in Bicentenial Man made me cry and still does.

Ralph Fiennes was utterly brilliant in his role, extremely believable. Liam was fantastic but Ralph should have received an Oscar.
Both should have if possible.

Ralph has such a calming voice here i finally realized who he reminds me of in mannerisms, young Morrissey.
