    Love your description of Minerva being in the “countryside”. They are in the county of LANCASHIRE😍, the Red Rose 🌹county, 200miles northwest of London. Lancashire was traditionally the home of cotton spinning and weaving in the UK 🇬🇧. There continues to be some fantastic fabric shops in Lancashire.

    Thank you so much for taking the time to put this list together! Your fabric descriptions and uses were very helpful! I will definitely be using this video for future references. I haven’t bought a lot of fabric on line but I did buy from Beyond the Pink Door in Ireland. It’s a small business run by a mother and daughter. The fabrics I bought were very nice quality. Their shipping was very quick. I live in Florida, my first order got here in 5 days and the second order was here in 8 days from Ireland, which I thought was great. Also, on Sunday it’s at either 2 or 3 EST she has an hour on RUclips that shows the new fabrics she has gotten in that week. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge! Hope your Mom is doing well. Sending you all positive thoughts and prayers!!

It’s ok if the fabric is pricy since it’s a gift. I just made another in a rayon French terry that was lovely but would love your input, also I am going to try and make an Itch to Stitch Lagan coat after the first of the year. Would love a recommendation on fabric for my first one, maybe a fabric that won’t break the bank and use something more luxurious if I make another one down the road. Have a great weekend!

      Hello, Renee! For a nice Harper, I would highly recommend this reversible double knit: stylemakerfabrics.com/products/soft-reversible-sweater-double-knit-solid-navy . Its fleecy on one side and ribbed on the other. It feels so lovely! As far as the Lagan, I'm getting ready to make my sister a coat out of this: www.minerva.com/mp/1245310/minerva-core-range-100-pure-wool-coating-fabric-baby-blue&variant=1245260 . It's a bit pricey, but you could also use a "vegan" wool: www.minerva.com/mp/1193873/minerva-core-range-vegan-wool-effect-coating-fabric-black&variant=1131709 . I've made a coat with this and it feels lovely!

    Such beneficial information. I’m going to have to rewatch this & take notes. I’m not a very experienced with my sewing yet ,though I have made a few wearable things. So in no way would I try to tackle something like a complicated jacket or a wedding dress right now. It’s the same with my fabric. Until I’m a little more professional with my sewing and not such a dork with it I’ll just practice on less inexpensive fabric. I’ve had good 2-3 days of really getting to work on my pants muslin & making a pattern from it. My front part looks really nice but my back part still needs some work. So I got to do some research on how to fix the issues. Just trying to slow down a bit and really think things over and that is not easy for me.

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  Год назад +2

      It would depend on the garment. If it's a yoga band for a pair of knit pants, my preference would be a cotton/spandex jersey because of the recovery. If I were putting a yoga band on a woven garment or something heavier, I would use Ponte for the yoga waistband.

    Hi Whitney! Thank you for sharing this very helful and informative video. I have been trying to find my perfect t shirt fabric and perfect t shirt pattern. Your videos are so helpful in expanding my understanding. I do have a follow up question I am hoping you might be able to help with. I find that I really like RTW t shirts labeld as "Supima Cotton". I have not had much luck in finding this type of fabric available by the yard. Can you share more about what that is? How it is different? Do you have any recommendations on where to get something like that? Thanks!
    Chrissy B

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  Год назад

      Supima is a type of cotton fiber (basically the type of cotton plant). It's just a really soft base fiber that knits up to a really soft fabric. I would search Pima cotton jersey as well as you are looking. However, it's my experience that the cotton/spandex jersey that we have access to is much higher quality than a vast majority of t-shirts that we can buy in stores. I would also look into some of the organic cottons. You'll probably find something very similar!

    Thank you, Whitney, this is really very handy information. Do you know where to get interlock from? I used to use it all the time for tee shirts, etc. and it was available in both plain and prints and laid flat. I really dislike the jerseys because of the fact that the edges roll. I find that a frustrating nuisance when you are both cutting and sewing, but jerseys are almost the only thing one sees these days. I have looked online but if you search for interlock you just get jerseys.

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  Год назад

      I would search for double knit. Birch fabric have a line of organic cotton interlock that is lovely to use. There are quite a few online shops that stock Birch and you can find their stockiest on their website!

    I’m not sure how many of your subscribers live in France: but just a word of warning that the import duty on my recent first order from The Fabric Store in NZ added 50% to the cost, making ordering from them prohibitively expensive for me. It was a shock and yes the small print on their site points out import duties may be levied but I never expecting to pay 50% more. So if you live in France be aware!

    I’m curious about processing time at Minerva… I placed an order 2 weeks ago and it hasn’t shipped yet. Wonder if that’s typical or if it’s because of the holidays?

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  Год назад +1

      I would say that's very atypical. You might check your spam folder to see if the shipping email came through there. You aren't able to track your shipping, but I've found that my things typically come around 1 week after they ship. That being said, I think there might be a strike happening in the UK at the moment with their mail service so that could be the issue as well!

    • @laurahovey391

    If a person has chemical allergies which lining fabrics should a person stay away from?

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  Год назад +1

      That is a great question. I am not sure what sets off a chemical allergic reaction, but if you can't have anything processed with chemicals against your skin, I would say that silk is your best bet. Metro Textiles NYC is a great resource for silk (charmeuse makes a really great lining).

      No. The only difference between a shirt for a male or female is the possible darts on a female shirt and traditional female shirts have buttonholes on the right where traditional male shirts have them on the left.
