Want to hear about Ruth and how much she meant to her community? Here is the original sit down video I did with her friend: HUGE Estate Sale: She locked the doors in 1981 and then I got to shop 40 years later! Part One
ruclips.net/video/AW4j93w-L40/видео.html
I love listening to your videos or blogs we are very interesting and you are very amusing and a very nice person with your latest thing of the buyout of the material is very interesting and as where I live you don’t see very much material or notions because people just don’t seem to want to so here and I miss it and when you buy like you have it’s amusing to see what you’ve got and yes I would like to buy it too but unfortunateIt would be too expensive for me to sign for it so I just content myself watching it thank you very much Stephanie
I am so happy that the mice and little critters did not get into all of that since 1981!
This was so interesting Stephanie. Close to the heart having sewn for so many years.❤️ Remember 40 years later is a generation...teach your children well. Tell them the stories and history they need to succeed. 💞🙏🎶💐
You have the best husband. He has your back and is so supportive. Does he have a twin😂
The blue houndstooth pattern at about 21 minutes would make an amazing 1960s Mod/Laugh-In style jacket and miniskirt!
I still find it hilarious the original woman was just DONE, locked it and left. You buying everything was a godsend to her survivors, honestly.
She was the town “fancy” dressmaker! I hope she can appreciate Stephanie saving everything she could 😊
She may have had an illness.
@@mog-gyveroneill2500I hope she wasn’t ill. I can understand being done, though. I’m preparing myself for retirement. I think it’s coming next month… and I am sooooooo done!
So impressed you did this. You should open a vintage "mood" store!
I know a lady whose mother was an avid sewer her mother's every single room in the three-story house was packed floor to ceiling with sewing material and sewing supplies. She didn't sew so she had to get rid of all the fabric and supplies. Luckily her husband owned a warehouse she took over part of the warehouse and open a fabric sale shop. She set up self-serve tables to cut the fabric, sold it for $2 a yard. She literally had bus loads of sewers and Quilters come to buy up the fabric. 3 years later she's still selling fabric😅
Reading all these real life dramas makes me happy ~~😂😂😂😂
Where ?
😂
Wowzer-- i would love to get some of that bargain fabric!!
@@mybhed4680I was thinking the exact same thing where because I will love to buy some fabric...
Stephanie, I love this video. My mom owned a fabric shop in the 70s. I have great memories of walking around the store, looking at all the fabric. Ohhh, and when she got new fabric, what a day. When I was about 12 years old she had some errands to run and left me alone to watch the store. In walks a lady! She started buying (I had never cut and priced for a customer) anyway, as I remember she bought an enormous amount of fabric, zippers, thread, buttons you name it. I was so nervous measuring and cutting all that beautiful fabric. I did it though, when my mom returned, she was so proud of me for being able to handle everything. And, the lady became a long standing customer. I still visit fabric stores and the smell of the fabric bring's back all the fun times I had with my mom.
Woow what a blessing you had as a child! Soo lucky!
That lady was fortunate she found a kid with knowledge of the fabric and saw how it was all done. Good for you
I love this! Thank you for sharing this beautiful memory with us.
What wonderful memories and good on you for keeping your cool.
I love visiting fabric stores. I’m afraid one day they will go out of business and we will have to buy all on line.
Thank you Stephanie! Now. . . when my husband complains about my "collection"' I can point you and remind him it could be worse.
I was thinking of the meme where the husband is like she could bring home a whale and I will help build a tank 😂
I am doing the equivalent of this now - it’s a labor of love! 😂❤🎉
😂😂😂😂
Oh wow! Giving me hope as I slowly take my mum’s and grandmother’s stash
Stephanie out here living all of our dreams 😂
You have a wonderful husband!! Any husband that rolls with a crafting obsession like this is worth his weight in gold!! 😊
I was 18 in 1977 & qualified as a registered nurse in 1980. I remember some of this fabric first time round. I love it all, takes me back to the good old days !!
I am of the same age, also in college in 1977. You did very well becoming a nurse in 3 years.
Amazing!
I was born in the 60's and I swear, I remember seeing clothes made out of some of those fabrics. What you called backed acrylic, we called "bonded" fabric. The reptile printed fugly fabric was typical of long housecoats/robes women wore with mandarin collars and long zippers that went from the neck to about mid chest or longer, and always had a small gold charm attached to the zipper tab. Cool video! Thanks!
These are, in fact, very 70s. And that was a *jaguar* print. Cheetah spots are solid, and leopard spots are rosate without the dots inside!
You are SO RIGHT! Thank you! I changed my title on my listing.
The green flower power one early 70s, late 60s
I 💕 LOVE IT ALL TOO🎉🎉😂😂😂
My husband keeps telling me that he’d have no idea what to do with my larrrrgggggeeee fabric stash if anything happened to me. Ok, just cuz I’ve been diagnosed with terminal cancer should be enough incentive for me to ‘deal’ with…but no, I tell myself that I’ll sew something out of my stash. I have to have a goal. Needless to say I’m in pretty good health considering. I will get some summer sewing done….when I stop watching RUclips 😎
a theatre background is SO evident in this vid. FUN!!!
“Do you want to be a rep-tile!” Loved this haul. Super jealous of your fantastic opportunity.
I want to be that reptile!
@@qossl6727 SAME.
That fabric would make an AMAZING mermaid tail/bra combo!
I’m so jealous. This is my dream. I won’t lie it’s a little bit of a nightmare, too, but you know, a cool one.
9:54 not a cowboy 😄 more a Persian miniature style rider. Beautiful fabrics. What a dream I wouldn’t have been able to leave anything back.
I have dreamed of getting to a yard sale that didn't go over well and the owners loaded all of granny's fabric, notions, patterns, books, magazines, and sewing machines for free -- I did mention I dream about this. But at this point, I have more stuff than I can ever use. I love the flannel with the pink flowers!
Fabric is so expensive and there are so many people who want to quilt and can't afford to!! This will be a gift to so many!!
Omg, you made me laugh so hard when you showed the duck hunt fabric! I absolutely love that you added the music for the game. The fabric looks exactly like it too. This was such a well- made video. I'm going to say it's up there as one of your best. You are very very talented, young lady. Thank you for your hard work to make it so entertaining. Now, over to your website...
I don’t sew but love looking at fabric. I can imagine how overwhelming seeing that much must have felt even for someone who does sew a lot!
WOW!! I’m flashing back to the 70s with all of those fabrics!!! Especially those double knits! Thank you for saving so much of this and making it available!! What a wonderful adventure you stumbled into!!!! Tons of work, but so fun!!
I think the word you are using for the backing on that blue herringbone you pronounced Try-cot is actually pronounced tree-co.
Agreed. C'est français.
@cherylhuot4436: thank you, I'm glad you educated all those folks who don't know the correct pronunciation of tricot. You beat me to it! I'm so old that I remember wearing slips and undies made of nylon tricot, that clammy and sweaty fabric from hell. I don't live in Florida, but I do live in a state hot enough to have my AC on now, in early November. I also am old enough to remember the thick sweaty double-knit polyester dresses of the late 1960s thru 1970s. I don't miss them.
@@janetburke2739the yeast Infections!! From that underwear!
@@janetburke2739 I’m old myself! I never had a hate for tricot and other polyester type fabrics that so many do. Other than once you sweat in it, the smell never goes away! I grew up sewing with all those double knits and polyester fabrics. I feel so fortunate to have grown up in a time that offered so many different fabrics and when making clothes at home was much cheaper than ready to wear. It’s so sad that sewing has been removed from schools. I learned almost all my sewing skills in Jr and Senior high school. From what I’ve learned watching many different sewing channels, the only place to learn now is in fashion school in college!! That is so sad! My teachers in HighSchool were excellent seamstresses. Once I got past the general classes, they were happy to teach me one on one in independent sewing classes. I made everything except bras and blue jeans. Including wool coats, underpants and slips. No one in my family sewed so school was a wonderful resource. I’m happy to see young people taking an interest and learning this important skill.
@@janetburke2739 я помню маму, которая носила такие платья, как все советские женщины)) ткань называлась "кримплен"
You make my day brighter! You gentle sarcasm and wit helps get back in gear for sewing!
How amazing is that! You found some really cool things!
This reminds me of my friend. Her and her husband buy properties and turn them into rental properties. They bought a property with a commercial front on the first floor and two apartments on the second floor in Fairmont, WV. The first floor had a tailoring/custom gown shop that was abandoned when the owner died. There was a TON of cool patterns, beautiful fabrics (including SILKS), and the best score - industrial Bernina sewing machines and sergers, an industrial embroidering machine, and Cricut machines!
Oh wow!! Amazing.
HA! I had a bonanza like this once. A dressmaker decided to leave her cabinetmaker husband for another man. Left behind her shop full of supplies and told him to 'sell it and send her the money'.
I got bolts and bolts of fabric, cabinets of thread and notions, and boxes of patterns... plus a nice pair of handmade dressers, all for $120.
$50 per dresser and $20 to haul everything else away.
I'm still dipping into that stash almost 20 years later.
This estate has been the gift that keeps on giving
I dont know if i could have walked away from the rest of the fabric. Good job! And may i say tired Stephanie looks amazing. Now I'll be stalking your store. Meanwhile considering moving to FL and help with stocking it instead. 😊
That’s a few loads for semi truck…. I’m so sorry. We just did a sale for a quilter. And I thought we were screwed…. Nope you get the prize
The blue/green space needle 1 reminds me of something my grandmother used in the polyester quilt she made for each of us grandchildren
I burst out laughing SO HARD at the “do you wanna be a reptiiiiile”? 😂😂😂 I love you so much
Also I, too, would have called the fungly paisley fabric “apostrophe” because I’m so used to 70s paisley being psychedelic. I had no idea that specific shape itself was the paisley! I 100% thought paisley was always floral adjacent.
Love you too!
I just found you from your interview from Karen's Quilt Circle! Thumbs up and sub'd right away. Love your sense of humor!❤
Hey Stephanie I could not have done that I would’ve had to gone and got a bigger lorry my curiosity would’ve got the better of me know what else was there so I could’ve sat in the middle of the garage and look through it all with great joy thank you for your contents
Researching she was worried about the original truck on the road. So maybe a bigger one was just unsafe.
@@lucie4185 that is understandable but me I would not of been able to walk away it would’ve broken my heart the enjoyment of looking through such A lot of materials and notions what does it cited my little heart and yes I do agree that probably wouldn’t have been safe to of had a bigger lorry but leaving that behind I still could not of done it
I'd have gone and gotten a second truck. Not necessarily different one, but a second one for sure.
Even if that required loading one, leaving it full and coming back to load a second one.
The apostrophe is a paisley graphic 😂
This Oxford comma lover kinda wants it, but I also hateses the polyester 😅
You say it try-cot? My grandma always called it tree-co. She used to make quilts and pillowcases with tricot and they are my favorite!!
I've always heard it as tree-co also.
It is tree-co….
Came here to say the same thing. It's pronounced treeco.
I can't thread a sewing machine, but that won't stop me from singing "do you want to be a reptile". 😂
Think of all the leisure suits you could make with all that double knit!
And I thought I had too much fabric in my stash….you’d laugh at my one cupboard full!! You are a good woman! I love all the fuglies! Rugs = skirt, with a chunky sweater on top and boots, a 70 s vibe. Reptile = wrap dress or top. Magic eye = can only be a kimono. Apostrophes = jacket for your favourite bookworm. Space needle = a cardigan jacket. Jungle = agreed, coat lining. Bright tweed = a Mary Tyler Moore pant suit, or a gorgeous coat or jacket. Duck hunt = sweaters for kids to play in, and be very visible on the playground.
Oh I love all these ideas!
I love watching you. You are just so fearless and SOOOO funny! Thank you for sharing your joys and journeys!!
Oh, gurl, I lived and had to clothe myself back in the 80’s. I cannot go back there again. But, you are fun, hilarious and worth my time! 😊
Lol
Its so funny cus i remember stirrup pants (and turtlenecks) as a little girl that i positively HATED and yet here u am again, 35 yeats later n jeggings and leggings n SEARCHING HIGH AND WIDE 4 turtlenecks. Its funny hoe it comes back around. Lol!
At the beginning i was so sad but you cheered me up 👍💞 Those graphic prints in bright colours could only be printed on synthetic to keep their colour. Sooo interesting thanks for sharing.
I love the problems you have. I do the same on a smaller scale. Just got 1000+ yards of flannel from a collection. It is so fun and overwhelming to go thru and decide what to do with all of it. It was a high to see the fabric in the 2nd bldg.
that pile rug print would make great doll house rugs
The fun-ugly red carpet print is my favorite but I checked and already sold out. Someone is going to make an awesome long duster coat with that.
It truly was magical! And I can’t wait to see what comes of it.
Welp, I learned my fabric style is funny fuggly. I loved most of those.
Right! Keep the pink flowers I am an apostrophes girl!
I finally know someone who has more fabric that ME.... lol!
Oh my word... just stumbled on your video and after 1 minute in watching, I subscribed. I never knew I would find someone just as crazy as I am about fabrics! Whenever I feel stressed out breathing fire over my family, it takes only a few minutes of stroking beautiful fabrics to have me purring like a contented kitten. Will be watching you from sunny South Africa to see what you will be doing with your treasure.
Aww thank you! And yes, petting fabric is universals.
I don’t sew, but this came up in my feed and I for sure watched every second. You are a delightful human and these fabrics are a fascinating blast from the past.
This had to be so much fun and overwhelming.❤
Brought back memories of going to fabric warehouses with my mom where bolts of fabric were piled to the ceilings. The terry cloth fabric was amazing!!
I looove the avocado flower power cotton!
Fantastic Gal! Lots of irresistible fun here!
It really was!
what a great problem to have. that brown black and tan sweater knit, i had a shirt in that back in the 70s
This is 'child let loose with grandparents in a toy store' energy for adults, and I love it
Your husband is a patient and loving-you man.
Wow, that reptile fabric! 🤪
The neon lizard skin in leggings for a retro hair band! Im heading over to your website and hope you have a gallery of things your buyers have made with your finds
I don’t but that is a fun idea!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Why does Stephanie Canada make me laugh my butt off!?😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
My Heaven!!! Those are all on the boards too so that is AMAZING!! As someone who sews to sell and I love it, that is beautiful.
Thanks for the entertainment - your positive attitude is uplifting. I love your humorous commentary about the various fabrics. Keep up the good work!
I don’t miss double knit for one second. I’ve sewed many clothes from that but I never could wear it. Itchy and made me break out.
Your husband is such a trooper!
Oh man… looking at all that gives me anxiety 🫣 I’m glad there’s people like you Stephanie who save all the vintage!
I feel the same way, overwhelmed.
“Uuuhhhhh babe…..that’s FULL.” 😂 oh dear, it’ll be okay. Trust the process, embrace the crazy fun, and gather the stories of a good life well lived ❤❤❤
Correct!
my grandmother had a smock she wore when in the kitchen made of that green flowered fabric, and the same pattern also came in a blue background with lighter blue, yellow and pale pink flowers on it, and in a pink background with flowers in shades of very pale pink, orange, and yellow, i only know because she had ones made of those two as well. she sewed them herself sometime in the late 60s or early 70s, i have a small piece of the blue she made into a kitchen towel left, never thought i'd see that pattern in the wild again, it's still a very cute print even to today's eyes.
Wow Steph that is one hell of a haul you have brought home. Have looked at your website and love the fabrics. Wish it wasnt so expensive to ship to Australia unless you have fouond a cheaper way. I understand how hard this would have been to arrange all this get it scanned together etc. That crazy yellow fabric reminds me of a vintage dress i just purchased mine is in blues black grey and white.
Yeah I just watch for entertainment value as shipping to Australia is just not going to be in my budget.
There is a glitch she’s currently trying to get rid of, that’s bumping shipping costs. The shipping for my order ended up being about half what the site said it would be. Steph caught it and refunded the difference. So it might not be as bad as it could, might be worth sending her an email and asking.
So many of those fun-ugly fabrics look like they were designed by Dr. Seuss. I can't get over how much fabric there was! I enjoy your patter.
Thanks so much! And yes, I swear Dr Seuss was the fabric designer of 90% of this.
Oh my goodness, I need that fungly alien abduction fabric to make a disco body suit. Where will I wear it? No idea. I just know that’s what I need.
As someone who grew up early 80s…There were sooooo many flashbacks and not in a happy way. We were poor and my grandma made a lot of our clothes with fabric that was on clearance.
For what it's worth, we're heading the direction of US being the grandmas sewing their grandkids' clothes. There's nothing shameful about custom clothing, made with love, just for you.
The blue/green houndstooth is EVERYTHING!
Oh my god, that pink terry is screaming Mrs Roper caftan. I'm so glad most of this is poly, which I can't tolerate, becaue I'm in love with that grey and yellow, among others.
Haven’t even starting watching yet and can I tell you I am so excited to see this treasure . TFS this .👍
Have absolutely no interest in fabrics or sewing, and didn't realize the subject until I started watching ~ then stayed till the end because of your personality & style! I enjoyed your enthusiasm and whimsy 😊
This is so fun to watch, even though I thought at the beginning "Nooooooo, you did not even take a third or quarter of what you paid for" :D But your husband might be happy, that you limited yourself to "only" a truck. From your footage, I am amazed that everything was in such good condition. I would not expect such a bright and open stored fabric stash after more than 40years after closing. Would love to buy something, but shipping costs would be too high. So I just appreciate and like your Video ;) Regards from Germany, also a Stephanie
OMG WHAT YOU CALL UGLY IS AWESOME I TOTALLY LOVE IT…ALL THE DIFFERENT SQUARS AND RECTANGLES…
In which Stephanie accidentally invests in a cargo van. In which Stephanie gets taken out by a falling wall of fabric. In which Stephanie opens a brick and mortar fabric store specializing in vintage fabric.
It’s paisley, not apostrophe! You must really hate 70s fabrics not to recognize that iconic design.
I could tell some of these were double knit even in my tiny little iPhone screen.
My favorites are the paisley, the gray snd yellow swirls. The barkcloth…and the little whitish cross stitch are more faves.
So much fun! ❤
Not paisley as we know it. LOL!
Actually I thought of spe... Oh, nevermind😮
@@jtrindle9383😂

The grey swirls is to die! I have a dress like that in my posh closet!
I owned a costume shop in the 80's. so many of these last fabrics you are showing I would have fought for. I made most of the costumes that I rented or sold. What a fun load of fabric.!!!
In my past, I dreamt of acquiring fabrics from a closed fabric store. Now I know that the feeling was fleeting. Today I’m a minimalist.
Flashback to the 80s! We used to call it bullet proof polyester. This is why I wear jeans and cotton t-shirts. 😅😅 But I kind of like the apostrophes. Don't tell my sister.
I love this video. It was sure a walk down memory lane. I remember having things made out of the terry cloth. By the way, I loved purple. I learned to sew on single and double knits in high school. I saw so many fabrics that I remember the patterns of. My mom had a wool suit that was the same pattern as that herringbone, but hers was lavender shades. Thanks for the entertainment!
The funky "bad" fabrics would make wonderful scrunchies
I can visualize some sewist out there making a nice jumpsuit for her husband out of that duck hunt fabric.."Happy birthday, Dear!"
Hi! Omg I gotta say, Pyrex lovers would love the green floral fabric!!!!!
So happy for you! And a little jealous ❤
Oh those fabrics!
The denim patchwork stretch fabric makes me think of the patchwork jeans and bib overalls with bell bottoms from the 70’s
You're 'cowboy' print is probably a persian medieval or maybe mughal design.
You are SO RIGHT. I changed the title already. Thank you for letting me know.
@@StephanieCanada I just wish it weren't a doubleknit cause I'd have bought the entire thing :( Girl, you needed a way bigger truck!
I'm so frickin jealous of this haul right now.
For moldy fabrics you can use vinegar and hydrogen peroxide, just add to the washing machine, both normal and softener compartments and usually it solves the problem. I usually wash everything related bathrooms this way and using them while cleaning. It is effective.
She had great taste, I love all these fabrics ❤
She sure did!
The terrycloth, the not-denim patchwork looking pair, *and* the psychedelic snakeskin would make fun playsuits/jumpsuits. 70s style, I can picture rollerskates, lol.
My mother loved polyester double knit anything, she didn’t have to iron it. I hated it and wouldn’t ware any of it- a bit of tension between mom and I. What a fun find especially the pattern cabinets.
All of the (Not stretch) Fun-ugly fabrics would make FANTASTIC quilt backs. ❤❤
Hysterical laughter !!!!!! YE HAAA. Cllootttthhhh! )))))))) OK you win. You now have more cloth than I do. ))) I'm single. I can do as I wish. I took over two more apartments, one for CLOTH things (sewing quilting mending costuming) and the other for fleece to spin and now a whole yarn store worth of finished handspun yarn to weave into blankets )))) I did have a real yarn store years ago and have a whole spare room filled to ceiling with boxes of gorgeous commercial yarn. There's going to be one heck of a fine estate sale ))))))
I bought a *cabinet* on line. Sent my husband to pick it up. Oh my. Unreal the stuff. Last time i bought it. Your a great sell women.
Did you find any plisse? Think the thin seer-suckerish cotton fabric your grandma used for nightie. I'd be tempted to take all you find because I can't find it now.
Not yet, but still have OODLES to get through
I had a pair of homemade overalls in that heart pattern when I was 7. I loved them so much and wore them till they didn't fit anymore. My heart is full.
If those fun-ugly fabrics were cotton I would take them all. I’m a quilter and can see them making beautiful quilts. I have a love affair with fabrics. Anyway, thanks for sharing this marvelous haul!!
Ahhhh !,,, double knit. The bane of my existence 😂😂😂😂
Oh crap, my husband is going to kill me….
Some of those wild patterns and colors are perfect for bagmakers!
Enjoyed the video. You really have done it this time! That is the biggest fabric haul of all time!!
Thanks for the laughs, as I remember some of those crazy prints. Yep, I'm that old. 😂 I'm not laughing at you or the great haul, but my memories of some of that material. 😊
You have to wonder what they were thinking people would use it for when they decided to print fabric like that
God knows. What were they on?@@howcanikeepfromsinging
I need to promise my husband I will never do this! I'd love that pattern cabinet, though. (Drooling).
