The lesson I learnt is, there is not much difference between preachers, politicians & salesmen. Salesmen sell goods, whereas politicians sell propaganda & preachers sell fear & ideology.
Bad preachers sell fear&ideology. Good preacher could and would never sell fear. There aren't so many, but some are still out there. Let's be honest, many people, with many jobs (not only mentioned by you) sell ideologies or theories or virtual realities that have little to do with the reality....

As a salesman, one thing I hated about this episode is when Georgie said “ya gotta do a little fibbin’” if you have to lie about the product, you’re not a good salesman.
Sales isn’t about convincing someone they’re buying the best product in the world, sales is about identifying a customer’s need/want and doing your best to accommodate that need/want. It’s a transaction at the end of the day and it should be mutually beneficial.
My favourite sales are when someone is being stiffed by their current provider or they’ve been looking for the product but haven’t found the right price, then I come along and people say to me “thank you so much for the call, you’ve genuinely made my day!” Makes my heart soar.
“It wouldn’t hurt to have extra money.” What happened to Greed is the root of all evil? What about the MANY job offers George has gotten which could’ve improved their life? The job at Tulsa, Oklahoma. The job offer at Sheldon’s college which could’ve not only improved their lives and helped Sheldon get to college full time while he still stays at home? What about when Georgie started making money and becoming independent, even buying his sister snacks? What about all the times Meemaw goes gambling to make extra money, or when she owns an illegal gambling room?

Do you really think that selling make-up door to door in that part of the "world" would have made her rich???? They were a modest family, so no, a little extra money wouldn't have hurt. Not to mention that she didn't want the money for herself, she would have used it for the family as usually. Georgie wanted money to be rich and afford whatever he wanted, Meemaw seems more interested in the thrill more than the money itsself. None of which is wrong, unless one is Mary. Which obviusly gave the job up because she didn't consider it to be ok for a religious woman. So what exactly are we talking about? She seemed rather consistent.

Brings back memories of when the Mary Kay sales lady came to our house when I was a kid. We had a crazy cat that would crawl up into our couch from a hole in the bottom of it and hide in this channel between back and the seat cushions. And when someone would sit down this cat would reach out with a paw and swat them on the rear. The Mary Kay woman sat on the couch and opened up her case and began her sales pitch to my mom.... and SWAT!! That poor woman jumped halfway to the ceiling and cosmetics when flying everywhere. I fell out of my chair laughing so hard I thought I was going to crack a rib! My mom was not pleased!

1. When George got a job to coach college kids, it was not just Mary but the entire family that didnt want George to take the job.
Mary didnt want to leave meemaw, meemaw didnt want to let go of grandchildren , Missy and Georgie dod not want to leave their school and friends. So stop blaming only Mary coz she plays religious figure.
I still think George should have taken the job but got to stop blaming only Mary.
2. When George junior wanted the tire job it was not only Mary again but both the parents did not wanted their eldest son to quit school. Understand able from a parent's perspective..
Again I repeat it was not just Mary but George reacted even more.
3. Mary fully supported when she thought Georgie had opened laundry mat and even offered to advertise it in the church. Little money but legal money.So Mary was supportive of George.
4. Mary then had a problem when she found out Georgie was doing illegal business like a responsible parent should .Meemaw as usual did not discuss it with the parents.
4. Mary wanted to sell make up legally is nit equal to Georgie gambling.
5. Both George and Georgie had a problem with Mary tailoring .George even said spending 100 dollar was a waste on tailoring but he can spend on drinking whole day.
6. Its ok for the whole family to sideline Mary everyday and ask her to visit bars once a while and be cool. .But if Mary asks them to church then all hell breaks loose.

@@Tradetek1 It is if you wanna make more than a worker in a chinese sweatshop. Most of these old makeup swindles were watered down trash at 1.5x markups. And they always went after people who didn’t wear makeup, or makeup hoarders, by pouncing on their insecurities.
See that's a key difference between pyramid schemes and MLMs, in MLMs you don't need to buy in advance. In MLMs you take orders and with the money you were given, you order the product.
Now it's people hawking essential oils, getting people to sign up under them from Thrive Market, hideous, cheaply made leggings, etc. Come on. Want a job? Get one. Don't use every person you've ever known to make a couple of bucks. Poor Mary in this episode, lol!
