I might be the odd one out, but I hate clamshell backpacks or duffel bags that open all the way to split into 2 sections. They are less durable and harder to use on the go when you can’t just set your bag down somewhere to rifle through it. I find using compression/packing cubes and a regular bag that opens at the top or only half way is the best compromise for durability, ease of use, and ease of finding my things in my various pouches/cubes.
Just because you can open a clamshell backpack all the way, doesn't mean you have to everytime. Just open it halfway and boom, you got yourself a normal backpack that only open at the top. And when you're at your hotel then you can open it all the way for easier packing/unpacking.
Peak design owner here (45L version)- feels premium, the expansion is a lifesaver, but if that thing is packed out and you have to carry it through the airport it is one of the most uncomfortable backpacks I’ve ever had. I spent $300 on it and it’s amazing otherwise so I’m not trying to replace it but if I’d known ahead of time I probably would’ve gone with something else. Just something to consider for future potential buyers
Thank you for your input. I'm starting to hear this more and more. The stowable shoulder straps are an amazing feature, but it seems to really come at the cost of a long-term comfortable wearing experience
I like how you have the bags set up library style, to many for traditional bag wall. How far out do you think before we will be able to preorder the community bag ? If there will be a pre order, and will it be named after Nomad Nation? Love what you guys are doing.
thanks dude! I love my backpack-library as well :) As for preorders, we are still a ways away, hoping to have the first prototype in a month and then that will dictate how the rest of the timeline goes. Best case though, still 8 months away (BEST case)
Can’t wait either. You should consider offering a buy-back program (on a per-case basis) for people that have purchased from your future competitors, that way this adds towards your (potential) social responsibility initiative (in terms of recycling.??). Good luck with everything man!
I’ve been trying to decide between the Sympl and Aer bags from this video for the past week or two! Sympl is drawing me in with the looks (minus the slightly aggressive branding), the dual main compartments since I always bring an extra pair of shoes/boots, and the ability to carry duffel-style (though not sure how much I’d actually use that mode). The Aer is also an attractive bag with great materials, and seems to get praise just about anywhere I look. Any X-factors between them to help push me towards one or the other? If you had one bag to replace your roller carry-on, which would it be?
I use the Cabinzero Military 36L probably should have gotten the 28L version as 36L is abit overkill but damn is Cabinzero good... YKK zippers is a must have.. but try out Cabinzero Military version

@aaron @nomads nation I am in the market for an AER City Pack Pro. I am stuck between Xpac vs Ballistic Nylon. I love the idea of aqua-guard zips and the orange interior. However, I live in Texas and it doesn’t rain here very much. I was interested in your thought process when choosing a bag. Why would you choose either in your experience? Lastly, thank you for your content and can’t wait to see what your backpack creation will look like. Best of luck brother and happy holidays.
I think X PAC is great for weather resistance but overall I prefer Ballistic Nylon - I think it has a better look, feel, and doesn't give off the 'crunchy' sound that X PAC does

they are all in the 30-liter range. The liter size is a good rule of thumb, but really it depends on the specific airlines and what their specifications are

I have number 1 and 3. Like both, Peak has more features and spacious, but AER X pack has outstanding quality.

probably the Sympl cuz it's the smallest so better for EDC
Would love to know your thoughts on the Boundary Supply Arris pack for international travel
A bit heavy and complex for my personal use. I prefer something a bit lighter and less complicated like the Able Carry Max or Minaal Carry On 3.0.
Honestly 1.3kg is the ultimate max for me to travel with a bag, ideally around 900-1kg… stuff adds up and these packs are way too heavy
agreed that there are lighter travel bags out there
