****When I said that periods were not a competition I just meant that shaming someone for complaining about their periods when maybe yours is heavier, or worse, is just not helpful and should stop. I didn't mean that you couldn't share your frustrations with your heavy flows here, or talk about your PCOS or ENDO. I know how helpful it is to vent and share, and if it wasn't for this community and being able to share my struggles with Endometriosis I know I would be lost, but talking down to someone because they don't have is as bad as you is just not ok. I have had to delete a ton of comments because either they would tell me to "stop bitchin' because you don't even bleed a quarter of what I do", or that my period isn't even a period which I think is unhelpful and honestly disrespectful. I still struggle with my endometriosis even though my bleeding isn't as heavy anymore, and one of the reasons I'm not as heavy anymore is because of all of the all natural products I've used and my healthier diet. Anyways, my point was to just be kind to each other and build eachother up and support eachother, not try to make someone feel bad because you might have it worse.

Thank you for this! I have struggled with endo for years. It got way worse after having my son. I hate when if i mention it around another female and they are like "well mine is way worse, there is no way you deal with what i do" With mine its hit or miss if i have super heavy flow or just "regular" (mine are never regular, just regular for me) If that makes since. lol. But I am really wanting to try the cup as i feel it might help me over time. And for me... I would rather have a heavy flow then the pain with the Endo. Have you found anything that helps you with that? Other then the Drs wanting to throw more pain meds at me. I hate taking anything unless i literally can't move and then I have to. so i usually don't. I am in my early 30's So i have talked some with drs about doing Hysterectomy but have not made my final decision yet. (After having son i was diagnosed with Secondary Infertility, so not having any more kids isn't an issue) Sorry for the long reply. Just nice to know there is someone who gets it.

Btw, when you're rinsing out your cup you should use cold water, and then switch to hot water once all the blood is gone. Hot water will set in stains more than cold water.

True (: I love Kellis videos so much, & I really appreciate that she chooses to be as open as she is. not only is it interesting to watch, but it makes me want to try cups & reusable pads & other products. I bleed really really heavy, sometimes to the point where I have to change my tampon every hour or less, I'd like to see if products like this could make that easier for me or maybe make it lighter like Kelli said natural products did for her.

idk about splatters in sinks but man I love taking my diva cup out in the shower and emptying it on the white shower base like its so dramatic and messy but really therapeutic to watch it be washed away. plus i think its great to actually see what the texture and consistency of the blood really is, instead of refusing to have anything to do with your own bodily functions.

I'm so much more bothered by people not washing their hands at all in bathrooms than anyone washing any blood off tbh.

These videos are priceless!! I told my husband about these and His first response was " it's about time"! He remembers when he was young how much the boys made fun of the girls for having periods. Our daughter is going to be 14 soon and he wants her to never be ashamed of her normal bodily functions. I homeschool my children and her 12-year-old brother has known about periods as long as I can remember. I have used these videos to educate my kids. I remember when I was young, the first question I had is what does having a period look like. I know not every mother may agree with this however my belief is , I am determined to change the stigma one child at a time. Starting with my own😉 I have stage 4 endometriosis. My kids need to know what my disease was all about so they could understand what I was going through . That's why I came to this channel. I appreciate these videos deeply!!!! 👌🏻So thank you Kelli!!! I think I live fairly close to you too in west Michigan 😉

Let's all admit that if men had periods, I am sure they'd be bragging about who had the heavier flow. I respect people who are uneasy/disgusted by blood/menstrual blood. However, people who are fine with bodily functions shouldn't feel bad about being curious. It's our bodies, and I am so happy to see videos showing other women's flow because it's nice to "normalize" our periods.

Hi Kelli-I'm a new subscriber. I'm post-menopausal, due to a Hysterectomy at age 35 as a result of Endometriosis and a large array of other issues. I watch your video's as a 51 year old, because I am fascinated with the options for women these days. I remember my mother telling me how lucky I was when I started my period at age 12, that I had pads that could stick to my panties, and I didn't have to use what she had to use as a teenager. She was VERY against me using Tampons, this was after the toxic shock syndrome scare in the 1980's. I eventually learned to use them in my 20's and they were my primary source of period protection for the remainder of the time I had my period. Now, there are panties, cups, sponges, etc! I think it's awesome, and I thank you for being so open and honest in sharing your experiences with these products for women of all ages. It's really a community service in my mind--I wish I could give you an award! I will be telling the ladies in my family to check out your videos. I've only seen one other RUclipsr who does such indepth reviews (Amy Nixx), but she hasn't been posting lately. (hope she is ok!). Anyway, just wanted to say thank you for your reviews, honesty and transparency. I'm glad we are developing so many options for such a horrible time of the month!

I love my diva cup. I was that girl who bled through a super heavy tampon and super pad (wore both at the same time always) within a couple of hours. And when I started using my divacup, I realized I really didn't bleed as much as a tampon and pad made it seem! So when people say "oh, I'd fill up that cup" or "i bleed too heavy to use a cup", its not an accurate thought. Like I said, I used to have to have to wear a tampon AND pad at all times and I'd still leak through both and I usually only fill my cup 3/4 of the way. I usually leave my cup in for up to 8hrs on my heaviest days and stil don't fill it up completely. The divacup has made my periods so much more enjoyable when it comes to the mess. Also, our period blood isn't any grosser than blood from our arm. It is not gross to dump it in the sink. Just think, if you were bleeding from any other body part, where would you rinse it off at? I love your openness and honesty on things like this!

What people complaining about period blood being gross should think aobut is this: period blood is sterile until it touches the air.
This means the blood in the cup is sterile until you take out the cup (unless the cup was dirty to begin with. The only bacteria that might have fallen into the cup were those flying in the air.
I am considering more and more to buy a menstrual cup

I LOVE how nonchalant and unapologetic you've gotten with showing anything and everything! Thank you so much -- these are precisely the reviews I wished I could find but didn't imagine could exist. The honest and explicit talk about the way things look and feel and how they work vs. don't work is so helpful!
I've known about cups for a long time, but I've been nervous to try them out since I'm a lifelong pad user since tampons don't feel so great. It's nice to see multiple videos/days with you finding your comfort zone. I also like seeing how surprisingly clean they can make the whole situation. Since they've become popular, the idea of period panties has really appealed to me, especially because I feel like I've usually got a shorter, lighter flow, and doubly so because my period is HIGHLY irregular. Like... typically starting anywhere from day 23 to day 40 irregular, so "by surprise" is kind of a permanent deal. My cramps usually happen right as it's starting, so even that isn't much of a warning. That just-in-case feature is a huge plus. With your in-depth reviews, I'm less nervous about trying something new and hopefully discover a method that makes my life easier!
I would also like to applaud you in being inclusive by mentioning trans* folks and using words like "everybody" and "people" when you're thinking about it. And... random thought... I was kind of amazed with your first cup video just how liquid the blood is, like I was expecting something thicker.
Overall, thank you! And keep on kicking ass!

I've had all the symptoms since i started my period and was officially diagnosed at 20. living with this disease is such a struggle, not just on period days but everyday since it affects so many aspects of your life and your endocrine system.. I've used tampons since my teen years because i couldn't stand the "diaper" feeling pads gave me. my period is unlike anyone else's I've ever come across, it literally never ends. I'm that unlucky person that can bleed for weeks or months or years without it ever slowing down. Yes, I've been to numerous doctors, gynecologist, specialist, no one seems too concerned about it. They've all wanted to put me on birth control to level it out and call it good. I'm basically a band aid patient. It never in a million years would've occurred to me that there's chemicals in the menstrual products we use. I happened on your channel completely by chance and I'm so glad that i did. You have been such an inspiration to me. I bought my first cup (also a lunette) about a month ago. For the first time in two years my period finally quit on its own. My husband and I are so happy. Even though its a long shot were hoping that eliminating chemicals from our lives will give us a better chance at possibly conceiving a child. I've been told not to get our hopes up but they also told me to take stock out in the tampon industry so this has given us hope. I'll be 31 this summer and for the first time in my post pubescent life I feel like I'm actually in control of my cycle. Thank You so much for doing these videos and keep them coming!

Some people need menstrual cups because they are hemophobic (they have an extreme fear or phobia of blood). Looking up how people with hemophobia deal with their periods was how I actually learned what menstrual cups are. Some hemophobic people aren't afraid of their period because of the difference in consistency than with normal blood. However, other people with hemophobia are terrified of all and any blood so they have to try and wash their menstrual cups without looking at them.

    Kelli,
I would just like to say "thank you" for your willingness to talk openly about a topic that all women deal with, but that many feel very uncomfortable actually discussing with ANYONE & EVERYONE in their lives, medical providers included.
I worked as a primary care provider for several years before needing to stop working altogether (for medical reasons) & I did many women's health exams...PAP smears, STD testing, family planning, breast exams, etc., & I wish I could have referred my patients to your VLOG so that they could hear about, & see a lot of things firsthand that I could not possibly squeeze into a 20 minute appointment.
I truly appreciate how comfortable & conversational that you come across. It was as if one of my long time friends was sending me a video that was specifically made for me, & this was actually my first time ever watching one of your videos! I had a hysterectomy young, so I no longer have periods, & therefore I do not look for any info on menstrual products anymore, but...I was just shopping on Amazon this AM & for some bizarre reason a menstrual cup ad came up, & since I had never heard of them before at all, I searched on Google & it brought me to you!
Keep doing what your doing as I KNOW that you are touching so many lives that you will never even know about! Keep being you, being open, being honest, & so, so, so real...THANK YOU!👍🏼
    Take care,
    Melissa😊🙏🏼💜

Starstrid I just got the femmycup last month, definitely a learning curve since I have only used the diva cup before. I wasn't able to use it last cycle cause it leaked badly (turns out it was facing off to the side, it's round so moves around so easily!) and I wasn't home to give it a real go. Hoping to try it this go around cause I am a heavy bleeder and I like the design of the femmycup.

I just want to say that you are the first person I have heard to address the fact that there is stringy/snotty stuff that attaches to your cup and just will not detach itself from your insides until you actually intervene and wipe it away with a piece of TP/kleenex :D I am on my 4th cycle with a cup and LOVING it. There are little things like this, but whatever. Still so much easier than tampons! There is definitely a learning curve for comfort and process, but hey, there was with tampons and pads for all of us at one time as well! Love you Kelli!

I love these videos. They’re so humanizing and it’s refreshing. I am 30, and I was fortunate to have a few classes in school that educated us on puberty, and female menstruation and all that jazz. It was normalized to me at the age of 10. It’s come to my attention though that many young women today do not have that same education, and it’s scared me how many young woman do not know ANYTHING about their bodies. I even heard a girl saying she had no idea what her cervix was or any of that. It terrified me.
Yes period blood is a bit ick. I take birth control SPECIFICALLY to control my bleeding, but I remember the days of removing my tampons and blood literally splurting all over my hand and yes, it’s gross, but it’s also natural. It’s just a part of being a woman. It isn’t always “sexy”, but it’s real. Videos like these are so important in my opinion because education on the female reproductive system is not commonplace anymore and it scares me for the future of women. THIS IS REAL LIFE. Stop being grossed out by your REAL body

Hey kelli, if you wash the blood off the cup with cold water first, the cup will not stain as quick than if you use warm/hot water. When the cup looks clean (obviously small, microscopic remains will stay) you can go for the warm water.
Love your channel!! Cheers from Germany :)

I can already tell such a difference in my flow, plus there are so many more advantages. It's much cleaner than I expected with no odor!!! Who knew?!?! Someone should really educate girls so they know their options and don't wait until their 41 (like me!) to learn this stuff. One thing I've learned is that I can remove my diva cup in the shower and pour it straight down the drain - no mess and it makes the cup super easy to clean up.. :)

Your first cup video actually inspired me to look into my own cup. I got the blossom cup (~25 bucks on Amazon) and I haven't looked back. No leaking. No ruined undies. Less/no cramps. No waste. Saving money. And I've also used it traveling. No packing 500 tampons 'just in case'. I've also started preaching menstrual cup to my friends. Most are freaked out by their own periods, so that's their loss...but thank you sooooo much for this honest talk and all of your videos.

Thank you so much for mentioning PCOS when talking about period complications! So many people overlook it or think it's just something simple like hair growth or rough skin!
My sister and I both have PCOS and we have different symptoms. She actually gets ovarian cysts from it but usually very little or no pain. Her periods also come regularly and she's had 3 children.
I, however, do not have the cysts (to our knowledge) but I do get severe cramping and sharp pains in the area near/around my ovaries. I also get more hair and rough skin than my sister and I have become sterile from the disease.
I also have another friend who does NOT have PCOS or anything of that nature but her periods are far more severe than mine.
EVERY PERIOD IS DIFFERENT and no one can possibly know if theirs is better or worse than the person next to them. So, again, THANK YOU for these videos and for spreading awareness about period difficulties while you do these reviews!

Hi Kelli! My name's Alison and I love your videos! I have been using a menstrual cup (Yuuki Cup) for about 3 years. I love my cup, it is my best friend. I love how detailed your videos are and how well you explain the little things that women can get frustrated with when using all types of menstrual products. I'm so glad that you found a cup that fits you well! I also have a Lena cup and it doesn't fit me as well. If it had been my first cup I would have probably put off cups forever.
I would completely recommend menstrual cups to anyone and really believe that there is a cup out there for everyone! If anyone is looking for a menstrual cup and wants to try to find one that will most likely fit them here are a couple things that I did that I think really helped me pick the right cup!
    1) Find your cervix! Knowing where your cervix is, high, low, middle, will really help you understand what length of cup you need.
    2) Think about the strength and sensitivity of your pelvic floor. If you are very active and have strong pelvic floor muscles you will probably want a firmer cup. If you are sensitive (some people know they are sensitive to feeling things in their vagina from tampon use) a softer cup may be better because it is going to shape to your body more easily.
    Hope those help!

I can't thank you enough for this awesome video! I have been debating getting a menstrual cup for over a year now. I finally decided to shop around and I found a great deal on one on Groupon a few weeks ago. I am just now trying it for the first time tonight after watching your diva cup video. I put it in while taking a shower tonight. I do feel the stem a little bit but that's it. It is super comfortable even though it's my second (most heavy) day. Normally I'd run out of the shower and get on the toilet to immediately put a pad or tampon on/in. I got out and grabbed a little t.p. and wiped myself. Nothing was there! I have a pad on just in case. My periods are super heavy usually so I am curious to see how this thing holds up. So far so good! Thanks for making me feel more comfortable with this process and please keep making amazing videos!

Thanks for doing this review! I've got Lunette in both sizes. I started with model 2, but struggled with insertion and especially removal. While it was in, I could always feel it as a sensation of fullness. After talking to the shop owner where I bought it I got size 1. What a difference! I trimmed off the stem, insertion and removal are a breeze, I done feel it at all, it doesn't budge when I go number twos, no pressure on my bladder and I was totally fine when I had a heavy leg training session at the gym. I have to say though, that I can't insert it without lube. I'm using organic water-based one. Makes a world of difference! Just make sure that the lube is not oil or silicone based, otherwise your cup will deteriorate much faster. I'm loving my small Lunette, I don't need to use anything else (panty liners, etc) so my period is no longer a consideration for me in my every day life. Except maybe making sure that my nails are short during that week :)

The Lunette Cup (size 2) is a Firm cup while the Diva is more on the Medium firmness. They dont seem THAT different while squishing in your hand (unless comparing soft to firm) but your vagina feels the difference in firmness quite well lol I have not heard of medical grade silicon getting softer over time with usage, but I have with TPE. I was actually kinda worried that it might be too firm for you since you have been using the Diva cup and liked it, but since you work out like you do it seems it might be a better "fit" (firmness wise) for you. The Lunette size 2 is too long for me (the bottom goes past my pelvic bone and I feel it between my "legs") so I need more of a shorter cup (bell shaped Lena are perfect for me).
The washes and wipes can be used on ALL cups (Keeper cup, rubber/latex, is being discontinued) so there is Food Grade Silicone cups, Medical Grade cups and then TPE (MeLuna cups). As long as you use a NON-oil based wash for your cups you will be fine. The wipes are probably just like an alcohol wipe which I use at home (the kind you buy in the first aid aisle) and again you can use with any cup, but Im sure the Lunette wipes are bigger which would be better for when you dont have a sink right there.
As for the THINX underwear being able to tell how much it holds compared to a tampon....the FDA has actually measured tampons and how much they should hold (regulated). So...
      Regular: 6-9 grams
      Super: 9-12 grams
      Super Plus: 12-15 grams
So your THINX thong underwear holds about 3-4.5 grams which is like nothing! lol
MeLuna cup company makes "shorty" which are for a VERY low cervix...the regular MeLuna cups are good for low to medium (possibly high) cervix. Seems like you have a medium high to high cervix if the Lunette 2 fit you nicely without trimming the stem so Ill be interested to see how the MeLuna works out for you.
Im actually going to get 2 MeLuna's for my younger sister who hasnt started yet, but showing signs she will soon (classic and soft). My mom had the talk with her while ago and she got upset ("I dont want it"), but she has gotten better with the whole thing over time. She really wants a cup now, since I have one.....or more so cupS lol, but my mom feels she is too immature yet. Plus my mom is more of the "your sisters and other girls use disposables, you will also" type of person..so I am actually getting a little "pack" together of the 2 MeLuna cups, Lunette size 1 cup, some cloth pads (which my mom wont let her use either until older), some organic/biodegradable products along with the "normal" disposables.
THINX is actually coming out with a reusable tampon applicator in March so I wanted to get that also for her so if my mom doesnt buy Natracare or something then at least there wont be plastic applicators being thrown away with the tampons. Im glad to be able to give her choices unlike what I had or to at least try them even if my mom wont buy them for her. My mom feels that cups are disgusting even though I have explained them to her...she was ok with the Soft Cups (because of the whole 12 hour thing) but the reusable just took it a step further even though I use Milton Tablets after each cycle to sterilize. The whole "eww" thing baffles me esp since she is a RN with 6 kids and has cleaned up god knows what during her lifetime....lol
Sorry for being so long winded....if you have any questions feel free to ask :)

Girl, get a neilmed sinus rinse, prepare it like normal and add the tiniest drop of baby shampoo or baby bath wash, shake it up real good and use it as normal. It will get rid of the protective booger film over your sinuses that doesn't freakin come off even after regular sinus rinses. You'll notice right away. You may need to do it again the next day, but seriously I only had to do it once after having a bad cold for about 2 weeks.

ItsJustKelli I have a question. My daughter is getting to the puberty age. Terrifying. What do you think about pre-teens using menstrual cups?

    • @ItsJustKelli
      @ItsJustKelli  7 лет назад +3

My daughter hit this almost a year ago and yes it is terrifying! lol but the more you show that you are scared the scarier it makes it for them. I don't push my daughter to try the things I try, but I do talk to her about her options just so she knows that when she is comfortable to try them then she can! Right now she is in no way ready for a cup because she just isn't there in her mindset right now and that's ok, someday she will be and I will be right here to help her choose and use one. Right now she likes pads and they make her feel more secure so until she feels more confident with her period I will continue to buy them for her and support her while building her up so she will be confident to try new things hopefully in the near future :)

ItsJustKelli Thanks so much. I was more wondering about the mechanics of it, like is she going to be too small for it and maybe should we just go with the reusable pads? I'm going to leave the choice of all of it to her, because it's very important for her to know she has control over her own body. I was just thinking that maybe those things should be left to the sexually experienced?

Hi Kelli, just wanted to say that your videos have been so, so helpful for me - you are so informative and thorough and periods are a normal thing that we all need to be talking about more and ending the social stigma on! It would lead to much less anxiety/myth/misinformation/embarrassment around periods for everyone, not just young girls starting. This is the kind of information children and young adults should be recieving in sex education classes. Thank you for doing this x

  • @sheenachante

Your videos are amazing. I suggest to any young girls that are scared to try it but want to. They should show their mom your videos if they don't know what a cup is or aren't sure about them
My mom was like "GO GET ONE!" When I showed her the diva cup video. I'm 27 & I was just telling her about it and she said she would have gotten one when she was young if they had them lol.

oh my god, i am absolutely ecstatic that someone has put out such an in-depth, "uncensored" and wonderfully open/inclusive video on dealing with reusable menstrual cups/products, and menses itself with it's various side effects and whatnot. i literally just put my very first cup in 8ish hours ago and am SOOOOOOOOO happy with it.
anywho! so i'm stoked to have found your videos, PLEASE keep doing them!! [in total selfishness, i do kiiinda wish you could do a review on the super jennie-as that is the cup i'm currently wearing-but it *is* a large capacity cup so no wild expectations here, lol. (i'd like to echo in agreement re: no competition tho just to be clear!!!)
keep on witchya bad self girl! you just gained a new subscriber for sure!! have a lovely daaaaaay

I actually already tried them! I am going to go into a more indepth review of them soon, but long story short, thinx wins hands down. They are not very absorbant but work ok for leaks, and they do not keep the smells at bay at all :(

Menstrual cups ARE RETURNABLE at least the Lunette (90 days) and the Diva cup is
Also the Lunette company is so great will accommodate any beed you have (ie. if you got the large and needed a small it's free, if you got a pink cup but got an orange bag they'll send you a pink one SUPER sweet)

Yes!!!! I love these videos because they're so needed! Periods are still mainly a taboo subject and the fact that you're so raw and unedited makes it so useful.
Thank you so much for taking on this task because so many of use don't have the privilege to experiment and try it for our own.
Thank you for being so open and normalizing periods.
    Please don't stop 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💕

I love this series! You have really inspired me to be more open to alternative menstrual products. I bought my first diva cup today and I will admit, it was tricky to get the hang of at first but as soon as I figured it out, I fell in love! I am a plus size woman and was really intimidated by the idea of "rummaging" around down there- but if any of you ladies are in the same boat, DONT be scared! It's worth it. And up to 12 hours without changing out!? YES please!!!

After giving birth three times, an ablation (which I told you about before) and god knows how many tampons I've stuffed up there, the idea of using a diva/luna cup terrifies me for some strange reason. You really do help reassure me and many, many other people I'm sure but I'm still scared to take that step

Georgina P It's only scary the first time you put it in. Then you realize it isn't a big deal, but I suggest doing a test run with insertion and removal before your period just so you get a sense of how to do it.

I was super nervous the first time I tried to use my cup. I attempted to put it in there probably 10 times before finally getting it in a comfortable position and then I totally understood the hype. Compared to tampons and pads, it's a godsend. After the first few trial and errors, no problems ever since!

Yes all women are different and all our experiences are different but yours are so educational and real. I love your videos and your opinion on the cups. And I totally agree, women need to support each other's periods and just go with the flow. :)

FYI, as someone who has tried several cups: Lunette is very similar to a MeLuna cup. And both are better fits for people like me who have retroverted uterus, very low cervix, etc. I can't use a Diva or an Intima cups. I always have to cut off stems as well.
Thanks for reviewing different kinds of cups.
