idk why it was this comment specifically that made me think of it but like. what about characters based on taking one animal and turning it into another type of animal-person. like turning frogs into cat-people. turning butterflies into swamp monsters. smth like that
Id like to imagine that these girls all live in the same house and when each season transitions, like summer to fall, everyone starts wearing clothes accordingly and HATE it because they miss their seasons weather
I'm commenting before watching the video just to declare that the best summer wizard was Merlin coming back from Bermuda in the 1963 movie The Sword in the Stone
I like how everyone has difrent experience with each season. For Example here in south africa, we have Christmas in the summer, so its associated with swimming and camping aswell as thunderstorms, where winter is like may to Augustus, and is associated with just cold , bear trees and like greyness , id love to flip the narrative on these
u said u struggled with winter but it’s 100% my fave!!! now winter happens to be my favourite season and i think you nailed it 😏 it’s so beautiful and the light and vibe and everything! i love her soft fluffy cozy clothes and the idea that she could just lie down to sleep anywhere in the snow 😂 i love the stuffs growing on her, i love the fact that her lantern is candles, i love her wolf… i would love to be a guardian of winter just walking around all sleepy, with no rush to get places cuz it’s winter and things move slow in winter… and watching over the hibernating animals 🥲💕💕 i’m getting excited now that summer is moving towards it’s end cuz that means… winter do be coming
I love how crazy you went with the maximalism for this one especially with that new brush!! These designs are some of my favorite you've done, they're just so full of life and detail it makes me happy
Fun fact : the four winds from Greek mythology correspond to each season! Boreas the north wind : winter Zepherus the west wind: spring Notus the south wind: summer Eurus these east wind: fall!
Summer and fall would be pyromaniacs who would egg each other into burning the forests every year. (It's a necessary process, but you know one or both of them like the chaos) Edit: OR in Winter's misguided attempt to understand Hot Girl Summer, she convinces Fall to burn the forests. While it doesn't quite match the vibe, Hot Girl Summer appreciates the attempt. Winter is even more confused, Spring is crying because all her babies got scared, and now they're all waiting for the mushrooms and foliage to grow in. Winter went to sleep to dream the confusion away. I was listening to Tumblr readings as I was thinking of this
I don’t know about Victorian sleeeping hats but medieval hood had very long tip because it was used to tie a hat to the head so it won’t fall off. It was extremely useful in the windy and cold weather though it looked not so beautiful and graceful. Maybe the reason was similar to this, it would actually add an interesting angle to the winter witch’s hat 🤔
Liripipe hoods! Love those, yeah. And they could also be used as a scarf, and the front could roll back so it sat snug to the head and allowed you the ability to see better while still staying warm ☺
The shading and lighting with these designs are really beautiful today. Maybe the previous Spring and Fall died in some sort of accident with a villain, (Halloween team from a couple years ago?) Summer is sort of new and had only been the guardian of summer for a couple years at the time of the accident and Winter is the only one with any sort of experience and is trying to mentor everyone to using their powers wisely.
not usually the active commentator but I gotta say your unique designs and challenges really inspire me to come up with more creative ideas, especially when it comes to worldbuilding or character creation for my own little stories. I love to watch your videos while sketching or brainstorming, helps me get a fresh perspective on ideas that I`ve been quite stuck on!
I absolutely love you rambling so please continue to narrate nonsense to us! More seriously, I think your character design videos are my favorite, so thank you for the time and the work you spend on them
These designs are all so beautiful! Winter is definitely an old soul. I like to think she also has a fun, mischievous side to her. Like a cool grandma who sneakily gives you an extra cookie when your parents told you you could only have one. I also imagine she has a fondness for young creatures/children in particular, and she’d probably indulge in Spring’s ramblings. This is mostly coming from my own experience with winter. I get a lot of snow where I’m from, and my childhood was filled with climbing on hills of snow, building snow tunnels, having snowball fights, and sledding, etc. She might be a mysterious and unforgiving season, but in my headcanon, Winter’s always going to be up for a little bit of fun. :)
Winter for me strikes me as a pale thing with sharp teeth for "frost bite" that kind of look like icicles! In winter you can really go outside except for things like ice skating or snowball fights / snow people. It's also a very musical time with lots of hot chocolate and movies + definitely sleepiness. When you go outside you can see your breathe! Also the north star / northern lights are super pretty. Since it's colder, it doesn't get cloudy as easily which makes for pretty night skies and not a lot of bug bites because they don't like the cold. I might be a little biased because I was born December 31st and therefore always get excited about winter break and time to read + eating hot food without getting too nauseous + humidity not drying out my curls + ICE CREAM!!! And SNOWCONES!!! and holding hands and warm hugs!! Of course, colds happen too but I have allergies so spring and summer, no matter the season, I will get sick- I love fall though! Harvest season and pies and jumping into leaf piles + The fashionnnn!!!!
I really love how the underside of the witch hat spring & fall have, both point out and are spiky, while summer & winter have a hood type of design because in way it shows despite those seasons (not personality wise but activity wise) being opposites they're still connected in some way!! i'm also just imagining spring saw summer's toad with a bow and was like "I LOVE THAT" and gave it to her deer even her staff to top it all off since summer's an inspiration to her 😭💞
I would highly suggest keeping your thumbnails between 1 and 2 finished drawings. I think a part of the fun of these videos is the mystery of what you're gonna draw and seeing most of the finished drawings in the thumbnail makes it hard to get interested cuz I've seen the finished product already. Love your art style, keep up the awesome drawings
I love these characters!! A detail I'm not sure if you put in on purpose or not, (Still love this detail) is the body types of all of them. Summer being a bit fuller than spring, then fall and winter getting a bit slimmer. I like how it kinda represents crops during the seasons. Spring being a little smaller than summer due to everything is starting to sprout, but not ready to eat, summer being the plumpest due to a lot of berries and some other crops being ready to harvest, fall being slimmer due to the harvest season coming to an end, and winter being the tallest and slimmest due to the lack of vegetation or crops growing during that season. Also I really like fall's witch hat and how it starts to flop over cuz in my eyes it represents the peak of the year and the large harvest you get before it declines into the cold death of winter. As for personalities, In my experience, spring is either really cold some days or really hot the other, and only starts to get warm and balance around the end of spring. So I like to think that at the beginning of the year Summer and Winter are just constantly fighting each other while spring just sits in the middle of it trying to control her season to no luck. (And with the school idea, I think it would be fun to have Summer and Winter come from rival schools, while I feel like Spring and fall would either be twins or just from the same school.) I also think Winter would be the eldest of the group, being more of a mother figure while summer is an older sister figure. So Winter with more experience would try to guide the other three thru their seasons, while Summer thinks she knows better than Winter, and is really set on her (wrong) idea. Summer often drags Spring into arguments since Spring often takes her side, but Spring hates being in the middle of it all, while Fall tries to calm everyone down, fails, then just watches all the commotion. Summer doesn't really get along with Fall, but puts up with her anyways. Winter treats Fall like a child, which Fall hates, but puts up with for now. Spring and fall get along tho. They sometimes get into little fights, but they aren't that serious or last that long. Winter also treats Spring like a little child, but Spring is okay with it since she likes the guidance. In short. Spring likes everyone and gets along with them but hates when she gets dragged into arguments between summer and winter. Summer hates winter, doesn't like fall, but gets along with spring. Fall doesn't like summer, she doesn't exactly love winter either. They're too "intense" for her. She gets along swell with spring tho. Winter loves all of them equally and only wants to help, but summer makes it hard to do that. That's my take on the witches of the seasons thanks for reading lol
I'm glad you added more red to Fall's design. I was going to comment that on Patreon but ultimately didn't have time. I really love Winter's sleepy eyes; not just that you made her sleepy, but the shape of them and the icy eyelashes. The super long witch hat for Winter reminds me of vintage/antique/Victorian Santa iconography. I also like how well the familiars go together for the Fall and Winter witches. Ravens are known to follow wolf packs and play with wolf pups. I really like how you leaned into the desaturation purple and pine-green tones, with the little accents of brown and red, instead of the pure icy blues and whites and silvers. Yeah, I think the Winter witch is my favorite. I'd drink a cuppa silver needle pine tea with her.
I ADORE these designs ! They are so moody and pretty. My favs are definitly Spring and Winter, they look so appealing to me, but all four designs turned out great. Very unoriginal name suggestions purely based on vibes : - Raine for Spring - Emma or Aemma for Summer - Eugenia for Autumn - Vivian for Winter. Character design idea : witches/halloweeny creatures based on different types of candy. Also, appreciate hearing about your westeros fixation. I am also currently reading through the first book, the brainrot is real.
The deer familiar reminds me of a german fairytale about a brother and a sister. The brother is transformed into a deer and the sister ties a ribbon (or stocking?) around his neck, so that she'll always recognize him as her brother.
These are so incredible! Imagine the absolute lambasting they would dish out against a common enemy! I think it's interesting how the first two seasons have poses showing action, showing how they are extroverted and reflecting how things are moving forward in their seasons. The latter 2 seasons have more static poses reflecting how things are slowing down and becoming more reserved in their seasons.
Summer is probably my least favorite season (too hot) but I love her design! I've been thinking that it would be neat to see you do a series where you take your finished character designs and draw them in more active poses (or not necessarily active, they could be lounging or whatever, just poses with more gesture and emotion to them). It would save you some brain power on design while we get to watch you flex and push your art skills! I'd also love to see some alternative season designs, like monsoon season and dry season for tropical zones.
It's wonderful how much each drawing of yours varies but still stays within your style. People have different body types and fashion styles and skin colors which make for more visually appealing art, imo. Great drawing video as always!
I recently went to see the musical “Tanz der Vampire” which is about vampires and stuff and there’s a song in it called “Die unstillbare Gier” which translates to something like the insatiable greed. The song is about the vampire duke’s lust for blood and inability to stop himself from killing everyone he loves. This kind of sparked the idea of drawing the seven deadly sins as classic monsters like vampires, werewolves, ghosts etc. based on which sin corresponds the best. (Gluttony could also be good for vampires since I feel vampires are very self-indulgent in concept with how lavishly they live.) It could be something like a curse placed upon them, similar to your video about the pirates inspired by sea creatures. (I think it was the one with the like sea spider or something?) So, if you’re struggling coming up with ideas for autumn season feel free to use this one.
Wow, you made me google the difference between frog and toad :D In my language (czech) they are all "žába", but then we call them by their first species name (for example toad-ropucha, tree frog-rosnička, edible frog-skokan etc.) Thanks again for a nice video and also help with my english vocabulary! :)
This was definitely unintentional but winter and summer kinda look like sisters because they have very similar a skin tone and hair color. Definitely adds to the lore, at least visually. Also I agree with the winter as a big sister dynamic, because not only is winter the last season, but it is also the first. Everything starts and ends with it.
(I don't think I've seen anyone else comment this, but correct me if I'm wrong!) Another way to tie in these witches to your previous ones (if you want to do that) is have the seasons be revered by the other witches as legends and/or actual GODS, and have each season rule over a certain faction. For example: The Spring Witch is the director or mentor for the flower witches, etc. Have each of The Seasons (this is what I am referring the group to) have a set of rules that are seen as moral code and orderly conduct that the other witches that idolize them have to follow when practicing their magic. The rules are tied to how nature is presented relevant to the season. The penalty depends on the severity of the crime, and how many times a witch/wizard offends. If the crime they have commited threatens the very balance of the universe itself, that unlucky individual might have the entire organization of The Seasons calling for their capture (or even execution). A potential story plot is that one of the witches commits the worst crime: crossing over seasonal magic. They're now wanted by The Seasons to answer for their crimes, so the main character is on the run. I know this is a wall of word vomit but I needed to get this idea out there 🙏😓 (And if there's anyone else who wants to use this, go ahead! :D)
Heuu hello ! First time comment here, but, I came with some ideas and... I found them cool so tempting to influence haha ^^' Turn dogs into writers (Afghan greyhound who writes poetry i.e, bulldog some polars, idk ?) Butterfly wizards (maybe the opposites/antagonists of moths witches?) Household appliances as chefs/cookers (fridge, blender, electric mixer, .... - the blender would turn everything into SOUP haha ^^) Love, love, love your lores by the way !!! (just finished the bird pirates and i visualised an entire serie of comics while you were drawing) You really inspire me into creating stories ^^ ! Have a good day all :)
I've grown up in a very different biome to you (western US) and it's interesting to see the differences and similarities in how we interpret the seasons. I love that you gave summer a toad friend- they are the unsung heroes in my cricket-riddled backyard this August.
With my love of Autumn, the Autumn witch is my favorite design. I legit love everything about Fall, the colors, the holidays, the weather, the whole vibe 🍁🍁🍁
It's funny because I created some seasonal deities for my DnD campaign about 10 years ago, and I have not stopped drawing them in (almost) all of my sketchbooks. I love your seasonal witches, btw! Wonderful work, PricklyAlpaca. I always love watching your character design videos. So good. 🥰
When you mentioned about the season girls having powers over their season, all I can think of is that the ice age happened because one of the Previous ice witches got a *little* too cocky and prideful and plunged the world in a LONG LONG winter season
I love it! Maybe you could also do a series with like, an unexpected characterization of the seasons, winter as the cozy, baking, extroverted person bc (in ye olden days) it's the time to come together and relax bc working is not possible, and summer leaning heavily on being too hot, too overbearing, too dangerous etc
Ohhh that's very cool, I immeadeatly have a picture in my head for alternative Winter! Spring could be the more frosty side of Spring or with fast changing moodswings like the weather in April! For Fall ... hm showing that some people rly don't like how fast it gets dark again? A more murkier and creepy vibe?
They look so AMAZING! I really think, though, that Winter should've been pale skinned; 1) for lack of sun, cause typically it can be cloudy/rainy in winter or heavy with fog; and 2) because I noticed that with each season, they got paler than the last, so going along with that theme would've been nice... Similar to how you carried one trait from one season over to the next.
I love how different everyone could interpret the prompt based on their location. Like for the summer i'd go ham with the beachy, coral reef vibes (cause I live near the beach), i wouldn't even consider the mushies, cause i never see them in summer. During the draft phase i actually thought that your spring was summer lmao
I'd love to see a follow-up where you do the rainy/wet and dry seasons that are present in climates like that of Africa and South America. A witch with the power and temper of a torrential downpour vs. one of patient and persistent heat.
Your Autumn Witch character is so pretty and cosy!! She's everything I want to be. Thank you for your wonderful rambly videos, now I have more inpiration for my wardrobe ❤ Also, your Winter Lady is gving Galadriel/Luna/Lady of the Lake vibes, and I love her
I love them sm!! I love all your videos and they really give me so much inspiration to do new ocs! You could try to do something like ancient greek gods and goddess on a fantasy setting or something like that! I think it's really interesting idea to explore!❤
Since New years is in the wintertime, maybe the winter witch would need to partake in a sort of ritual to restart the cycle? LOVE them all btw, thank youuuu Kira
I think Cadence would be a fun name for the Fall Witch, mainly because Cadence is derived from the French(/Italian) word, meaning "to fall", so I thought it'd be funny lol
I don’t mean this as a diss in any way, the vibes for Autumn are immaculate. But with red hair, round glasses, bookish nature and raven familiar. You kinda drew young Lilith Clawthorne. Which I’m not mad about in the slightest she looks fantastic! I just can’t stop thinking about her when I look at your character cuz I have toh brain rot lmao
I love that this has somehow become a tradition! My state may be trying to kill us with heatstroke, but these designs remind me of the light at the end of the tunnel. Bring on the spooks!
The deer reminds me of a kangaroo! Much better than i could do in any case. I adore all these designs but Spring absolutely speaks to me the most. And Summer, they're the personality hire of the group for sure 😂
Firstly, I don't know about you, Kira, but I for one LOVE the new tradition of designing a new coven of witches per every August just as much as I LOVE the designs of each witch (Srsly, DING DONG on each of their designs). Secondly, if you're looking for names, I've got some suggestions: Spring = Renée (A French feminine name meaning "Reborn" or "Born Again" Summer = Evy (From Eve/Eva, Hebrew/Latin name meaning "Life") Autumn = Phthisis (Pronounced as: Fi-This & is the name of Greco-Roman Goddess of Rot & Decay) Winter = Chione (Name of the Greco-Roman Goddess of Winter but also an inspiration of the fairytale "Snow White & The Seven Dwarves", whom Snow White was famous for taking a bite of an apple & entering a sleep-like death.) Third of all, if you ever decide to continue with the witch costume tradition, could I suggest a knightcore-themed witch (since you're getting into doing chainmail & stuff).
I also just thought that maybe these witches are also Cardinal ones that rule some sort of magical, seasonal Oz-like realm. Renee, The Spring Witch could rule the Eastern Regions Evy, The Summer Witch could rule the Southern Regions Phthsis, The Fall/Autumn Witch could rule the Western Regions & Chione, The Winter Witch could rule the Northern Regions
I NEED you to watch the 2002 Snow Queen hallmark movie. It’s based on the original Hans Christian Anderson story and it has such a unique take on seasons embodied by women.

- Raine for Spring
- Emma or Aemma for Summer
- Eugenia for Autumn
- Vivian for Winter.
I’m so glad there are other people who are as ready for Halloween as I am 👻🎃🍁🧙♀️ spoopy season is upon us!
Oh I’m absolutely PUMPED with your rambling, I adore hearing you yap about your silly little guys. It is endlessly inspiring as well as entertaining
As a Michigander, I think that we need to talk to Winter and Spring about how their BDSM play is affecting everyone
MICHIGANDER SPOTTED! I DON’T LIVE THERE ANYMORE BUT I STILL GET REALLY HAPPY WHEN ANYONE MENTIONS MICHIGAN
Wow, you made me google the difference between frog and toad :D
In my language (czech) they are all "žába", but then we call them by their first species name (for example toad-ropucha, tree frog-rosnička, edible frog-skokan etc.)
Thanks again for a nice video and also help with my english vocabulary!
Tea witches????
(I don't think I've seen anyone else comment this, but correct me if I'm wrong!)
Another way to tie in these witches to your previous ones (if you want to do that) is have the seasons be revered by the other witches as legends and/or actual GODS, and have each season rule over a certain faction.
I know this is a wall of word vomit but I needed to get this idea out there 🙏😓
(And if there's anyone else who wants to use this, go ahead! :D)
I love the diversity of these characters
Everytime you post it is a good day
I think Winter would have a sort of soft spot for Spring and constantly nag Summer. She would act as a sort of mentor to Fall.
Heuu hello ! First time comment here, but, I came with some ideas and... I found them cool so tempting to influence haha ^^'
Turn dogs into writers (Afghan greyhound who writes poetry i.e, bulldog some polars, idk ?)
Butterfly wizards (maybe the opposites/antagonists of moths witches?)
Household appliances as chefs/cookers (fridge, blender, electric mixer, .... - the blender would turn everything into SOUP haha ^^)
Love, love, love your lores by the way !!! (just finished the bird pirates and i visualised an entire serie of comics while you were drawing) You really inspire me into creating stories ^^ !
Have a good day all :)
Love the last idea - so unhinged!
So good. 🥰
characters based on autumnal drinks would be cute! like apple cider, mulled wine, pumpkin spice latte, milk tea, hot chocolate, etc.
I feel like the Summer and Autumn witches would have a Joy and Sadness dynamic from inside out😂
I like winter the most! I think the seasons already work good as names maybe except spring
Can you do a sketchbook tour of your "crappy sketchbooks" I really wanna see them :)
When you mentioned about the season girls having powers over their season, all I can think of is that the ice age happened because one of the
Previous ice witches got a *little* too cocky and prideful and plunged the world in a LONG LONG winter season
THANK YOU KIRA!! WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH
Your dnd ocs must go crazy
As a July baby, summer was definitely my fav! Her personality also seems a lot like mine and she's super pretty!!!
I love the staffs. I like to imagine that when the staffs are used as brooms, the lanterns would serve as headlights 😊
Your Autumn Witch character is so pretty and cosy!! She's everything I want to be. Thank you for your wonderful rambly videos, now I have more inpiration for my wardrobe ❤
Also, your Winter Lady is gving Galadriel/Luna/Lady of the Lake vibes, and I love her
You should do a group of spooky friends all themed by different things like a black cat, carved pumpkin, a wich and those kinda things
Summer is GORGEOUS!! But I'm an Autumn girlie at heart. 🍁🌙⭐
These designs are beautifully breathtaking. I just can’t think of the right words to describe home amazing these are😅
I love them sm!! I love all your videos and they really give me so much inspiration to do new ocs! You could try to do something like ancient greek gods and goddess on a fantasy setting or something like that! I think it's really interesting idea to explore!❤
the PricklyAlpaca Illustrated Universe (PAIU) continues to grow, soon this is gonna be bigger than marvel and tolkien combined lol
i love Summer's design ! She's soooo pretty :D
I was literally just watching your old videos, you've really come so far, like improved a lot.
now i can't stop thinking about the outfits they wear in eachother's seasons
I feel like Spring should've had big ol' honkin' rain boots.
As a winter enjoyer, I feel very represented by the winter witch. She has the VIBES
I love winter spcefecly December cause my b day and Christmas vibes and music
And SNOW SO MUCH SNOW I ganna move to Canada when I get older
Since New years is in the wintertime, maybe the winter witch would need to partake in a sort of ritual to restart the cycle?
LOVE them all btw, thank youuuu Kira
I think Cadence would be a fun name for the Fall Witch, mainly because Cadence is derived from the French(/Italian) word, meaning "to fall", so I thought it'd be funny lol
the winter witch design really speaks to me in every way, i'm so obsessed with the colour and silhouette, you really killed it
We should all collectively sign a petition for Rachel Maksy to make this autumn witch costume 😭🙏🏼💙
I like the new sketching techniques and the different brushes
hi! i assigned a name for each witch:
spring: lavinia
summer: esther
autumn/fall: magnolia
winter: lilith
i hope you enjoy these names, pricklyalpaca!
sweethear i love the rambles, spew all your words, rant your little heart out
As we drift closer to spooky times, I'll never stop wanting the four horseman of the appcalypse as witches
Name suggestions:
Spring: Eden
Summer: Taliana
Fall: Amber
Winter: Sophia
I can absolutely see this being a good show, I'd watch it
That spring design -- the beehive lantern -- it's just *chef's kiss*
I LOVE your art style
your art never fails to inspire me. gorgeous designs and lovely lore!!
I love your long videos. I crochet while I watch.
Secondly, if you're looking for names, I've got some suggestions:
Spring = Renée (A French feminine name meaning "Reborn" or "Born Again"
Summer = Evy (From Eve/Eva, Hebrew/Latin name meaning "Life")
Autumn = Phthisis (Pronounced as: Fi-This & is the name of Greco-Roman Goddess of Rot & Decay)
Winter = Chione (Name of the Greco-Roman Goddess of Winter but also an inspiration of the fairytale "Snow White & The Seven Dwarves", whom Snow White was famous for taking a bite of an apple & entering a sleep-like death.)
Third of all, if you ever decide to continue with the witch costume tradition, could I suggest a knightcore-themed witch (since you're getting into doing chainmail & stuff).
I also just thought that maybe these witches are also Cardinal ones that rule some sort of magical, seasonal Oz-like realm.
Renee, The Spring Witch could rule the Eastern Regions
Evy, The Summer Witch could rule the Southern Regions
Phthsis, The Fall/Autumn Witch could rule the Western Regions
& Chione, The Winter Witch could rule the Northern Regions
I NEED you to watch the 2002 Snow Queen hallmark movie. It’s based on the original Hans Christian Anderson story and it has such a unique take on seasons embodied by women.
OM GYATT I was just making an nature witch when u post this
The removal of winter’s thin and crooked nose for a bigger straight one…. It’s got me a little pressed I’m ngl
I LOVE your character designs and that you put so much thought into it, I also adore how you color omg
