Seriously great pieces of kit! Beautiful restorations of iconic vehicles. What a choice to be able to make. Lucky Mucker 👍 Any would be great to see… sorry for being no help!
I drove one in the army in 1972 all over Germany, reg number 38EL24 it was a 6 wheel 10 toner and only did 30 mph, Christ it sure brings back memories,I once went from HAMELN to munchen gladbach which took 3 days, my arse was killing me when I got back.😂😂
My Grandad was driving an AEC Matador through Halfaya Pass 1st December 1941, when they took a direct hit from a fighter bomber, everyone was killed, so even though I never knew him, these great old vehicles hold a very special place in my heart, I'd own one tomorrow if I could.
My dad was in suez when he was in the army he was a diesel mechanic he had 32 matadors which was in different states of repair they had no mechanic on the camp so he was billeted in the workshop on his own and the co ordered him to get them all running and serviceable it took him a few months but he used the worst 3 or 4 for spares because then in Egypt there wasn’t any he always talked about mats and said nun of your modern stuff would ever beat a matador many thanks for doing the video it bought a lot of memories back of sitting talking with my dad he passed away 2018
Love that these old bits of kit are still around and being restored and driven and not sitting in a museum gathering dust or rusting away forgotten somewhere!. Nice one!. Nuff said!. 🙂
They bring back many happy memories from when I started working in the forestry industry in the 1970s when I was just 16 when most timber companies had one they could take a beating and still keep going british engineering at its best 👌, roy.
OPTION 3 - Maltese Mat wins my vote. I’m hoping to get to the AEC show this year, first time for many years. What superb restorations, a real credit to Matt.👍
When my Grandfather did his National Service he did his driving test on a Matchless 250 around an aerodrome. They then told him to take an ambulance to another base. After that he was given the job of driving the entertainment Matador. Great to see these old girls brought back to life.
We really enjoyed this one. Mat is a craftsman he makes a brilliant job of restoring these old ladies. Dad has driven them back in day and loves watching you guys with these. He enjoys all your content but he especially enjoys these ones. We think you should take the Maltese to the show.
That is a very nice line up it’s a credit to Mat your self and anyone else who is involved keeping these old girls no the road take the Maltese and have a good show
I love to see the old trucks, it is always a treat to see one out on the road in the sunshine. I think it’s the equivalent of taking Grandad out for the day. I’m sure it’s a treat for the truck. Great video thank you
I am now 74 and have an old photo of my dad and his soldier mates all sat across the roof of a Matador . it was during W W 2 in the 8th army . he was a driver on supplies . I myself was an H G V mechanic for Shell Mex and B P from 1970 and we had a mixed fleet with lots of A E C s including Mercury , Mammoth Major . etc . In the 1980s we had a Scammell artic roll over loaded on the approach to a motorway services on the M5 and we had to tranship the load onto another vehicle .luckily the outlet valves were up in the air as it had rolled onto its right hand side . guess what ,the recovery vehicle that pulled it back upright and towed it back to Kingsbury Oil terminal was a Matador . thanks for a lovely video .
The local sawmills here Cessnock NSW Australia had a few Matadors to haul logs out of the mountains, sadly they have all gone to scrap, also the local bus company Rover Mtrs had a few as 'articulated' buses, my late Dad worked for AEC before WW2 and I have always loved them, cheers and thanks for sharing this clip
Well they say the ‘simple’ pleasures in life are the best , enough about me !!!! What an utterly brilliant video, sun 🌞 shining down , fantastic matadors , such superb restoration work taken place. 👍👍👍👍👍so well done. You forget until your reminded these iconic vehicles are over 80 years old , a testimony to the quality of the engineering really 😃😃.The matador on the road run , how crisp did that engine sound !!!! What a rotten job being asked to take for a drive out , NOT, must of been a brilliant day out !!! Thanks for making the video & sharing, otherwise the rest of us wouldn’t get to see these projects !!!!👍👍👍👍👍Please bring the Maltese matador 😃
First time I’ve seen this video / channel !!!!!! IM going to carry on watching your other video’s,, I hope you guys carry on ur great work through them all,, WELL DONE LADS,,
What a thrill for you to be able to take this for its first road run since that beautiful restoration just beautiful. The Maltese would be my suggestion.
It's so nice to see all the old AEC Matadors in working order . Well done to you all . Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming . Lots of us older men love to see all the hard work you put into restoring these old trucks and contractors plant .
What a fantastic line up all together. Great that there are people like Matt (and yourself) who put in so much work preserving history. Well done all of you.
I went to Gaydon when they had a commercial day. Some bloke had a Matador and converted the back for sleeping in. Took him 2 days to drive up from Somerset, said it was hard work and didn't like going in a straight line. He was kind enough to let me sit in the cab and start it up, amazing highlight of a great day.
You guys are heroes to achieve this standard of restoration. I absolutely LOVE the absence of driver comfort (is there a heater?), drag coefficient and stubborn utility design in these lorries. There's beauty in it.
Drag coefficient? Heater??? Heavens, mate - the only way you could get a Matador to top 36mph was to coast down a very steep hill in neutral - so it's drag coefficient was a purely academic concern :)) As for heaters; heaters were (at best) an optional extra in Brit *cars* until the early 60s, let alone in trucks . . .
LOVE Matadors.Saw my first ones in the early fifties. There is an annual fair in what was then a small village on the top of steep hill. The cry would go up in the school yard "the matadors are coming". A local showman had two and these came the long way round as they had signs on the cab roof"Caution Three Trailers".Loved Matadors ever since.
I remember working in a wood yard as a kid. They had two of these lovely beasts lugging around huge trunks of Elm (when Dutch Elm disease was at it's peak) and I'll never forget the sight of them bouncing the front wheels across the yard because of the weight they were carrying. They were sat running for hours on end chuffing out smoke rings that drifted off across the sky.
My grandad used to drive AEC wagons in the 1950s for his brother, transporting raw cotton from Liverpool to the Cotton mills of Lancashire. The registration number was EOJ 101
The Maltese matt is what I would take love to see the older ladys out and Matt and his crew do a absolute cracking job resorting them thay look amazing paint work etc
That looms absolutely fantastic, you have all done a exceptional job, my restoration fantasy would be to restore a RL Bedford as that is what I got my licence in way back in 1974, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les
Maltese is the one I pick. Started getting fields ready for planting a few days ago went well played with the Versatile D145 a little. Now is our favorite time picking stones before planting. 😂😂😂
Amazing sight seeing all beautifully restored Matadors, I would be interested in seeing the Malta Matador at The AEC Society Rally , as live in New Zealand, so will have to wait until the Gazette comes out or video you hopeful do at the rally. Keep up the great work you both do on the Matadors.
Absolutely beautiful machines LM I am so jealous Metal like that reminds you of how tough our grandparents were to drive these beasts not to mention the people who still drove em after the war Matt is an absolute legend in my book Thanks guys 👍
Lovely sight of four beautiful restore matadors, each one with its own story to tell .thank you for restoring these special trucks ,for future generation to enjoy.
Always loved Matadors, great to see you guys obviously do too! If you were nearer i would love to get involved! Keep up the good work and turning out these beauties!!
When I was young living in Kowloon in 1959 we use to go to school in an RAF Matador. What I can remember from that age it was huge. After that RAF Bedford RL Truck then RAF Bedford SB's Coaches, military Grey with red /white vertical stripes on the rear doors and white roof. :)
Watching your video i can hardly believe in 1968 at 16yr old i was driving one 9 hrs a day as a quarry dumptruck i must have been young and daft i left 2 yr later with 2 bent thumbs and had many swollen wrists started for a plant hire co on aec 690 s then cat 769s heaven but memories last for ever
Awesome work guys, my dad used to run one of these amazing machines all over the south east in the 80’s Very fond memories. Registration number was TAN494F. Just hope it’s still around!
the Maltesse is a absolute winner A) its in just enough condition that its still recognisable. B) its in the perfect state of disrepair to show people what your capable off C ) i like it LOL. admittedly C ) isnt a very good reason but ehh how could anyone not like it
We had these 6 wheel versions in Germany in the early 80,s. I remember it took two of us to steer it around the Barracks in the UK. Noisy as hell half asleep trying to keep on the road. 30mph but will pull like a tank.
They all sound so sweet Mucker brings back memories but the start up on the one I drove we had to swing it over on the cranking handle . Cracking video as always buddy. FTY for the show and yes will try to be at the show would love to see them in the flesh again.
My dad was in the army in Egypt. He drove a Matador back and forth between Port Said and Suez. I remember the photos when I was a kid, he used to tell us about his adventures driving through the desert. He liked it.
One if not the best reason to adore this channel is the absolute pasting that the -uckwits get which happens all too rarely in my humble opinion 🏴👍🏻
The Maltese gets my vote. Always had a soft spot for AEC's used to see them on the A40 with the test weighs and no bodywork just some battoning and a bit of perspex to protect the driver in his dispatch rider coat, flat cap and goggles.
The double declutching really brings back memories. You do not often hear that now. (I still do it in my car 65 plate, just cant get out of the habit.)
Gotta blame the old 'series.1' AIRFIX kit - Plastic Bag, Staples, Folded Instructions & the 5.5inch Gun Built my first one around 1972 & bought another around 1976 & bizarrely, it still survives Watched this video in awe & deep fascination - Love it
Fantastic work been done on these old wagons they look bloody beautiful well done to all involved, Maltese Matador would be my choice mucker but it’s a pity you couldn’t take all of them 👌

Very nice. I am grateful that people like you and your mates go to so much trouble to save these historical machines!

That was the later Militant. Lovely old things.
Thy polar opposite to today's Euro trucks with back massagers and automated everything.
My Grandad was driving an AEC Matador through Halfaya Pass 1st December 1941, when they took a direct hit from a fighter bomber, everyone was killed, so even though I never knew him, these great old vehicles hold a very special place in my heart,

What a wonderful restoration and no wonder Matt has you test drive them Mucka, you went up and down that box like butter 😎
Well done to you all !
We called it power steering by armstrong. That's a treat to hear them run. Good video, off to the pub and cheers !
Love the brutal beauty of these old British bulldogs, AEC, Leyland, Scammel the lot. We need British truck building back!
Love that these old bits of kit are still around and being restored and driven and not sitting in a museum gathering dust or rusting away forgotten somewhere!. Nice one!. Nuff said!. 🙂

Boy, can these boys drive..no crunching gears..it’s a privilege to watch you guys in business.
When my Grandfather did his National Service he did his driving test on a Matchless 250 around an aerodrome. They then told him to take an ambulance to another base. After that he was given the job of driving the entertainment Matador. Great to see these old girls brought back to life.
What a line up! They all are fantastic.
I'm with everyone else on taking the Maltese.
We really enjoyed this one.
Mat is a craftsman he makes a brilliant job of restoring these old ladies.
Dad has driven them back in day and loves watching you
guys with these.
He enjoys all your content but he especially enjoys these ones.
We think you should take the Maltese to the show.
The sounds of the AEC six is so great and that Duck Egg Blue Matador is simply gorgeous.
They're all magnificent...one of the many things I love about the Brits...the pride they take in their automotive history..well done, guys!!
For handiness, option 3, mighty stuff Kurt, Matt and Puppo, and fair play Matt, a credit to You Man, huge respect💯👌👍😎
Those are awesome looking trucks, and great job bringing them back to life 👍🏻

Those old Matadors are bloody hard to drive and you make it look effortless 👏🏻 Well done Podge
I love to see the old trucks, it is always a treat to see one out on the road in the sunshine.
I think it’s the equivalent of taking Grandad out for the day.
I’m sure it’s a treat for the truck.
Great video thank you
you are proud and priveledged to drive it and im dead jealous,a great video really enjoyed it and great to see them saved
Great video. I found myself grinning from ear to ear watching those old girls running.
I’m a Yank and your channel introduced me to these lovely beasts! Love it!
That sound is pure joy to my ears! :D
I laught so hard on the greta reference
Four pieces of history, and look at the quality of work, if those trucks could tell a story ?
Keep up the brilliant work 🤗

First class work by a first class chap always willing to help

How can anyone choose one Matador?
It’s like showing favouritism to one child. We love ‘em all equally.
Bloody fantastic!!!
Magnificent, really a bit like a giant Series 1 Landrover, crash box and Armstrong Power Steering.
You guys are heroes to achieve this standard of restoration. I absolutely LOVE the absence of driver comfort (is there a heater?), drag coefficient and stubborn utility design in these lorries. There's beauty in it.

Would love to see the Maltese Mat in the flesh at Newark
Love the work of Matador HQ👍👌
Deffo option 3, the maltese. Stunning resto on all those - real credit to Ant.

Impressed how the exhaust cleaned up on the road run ,yes the Maltese Matador is the one to take.
Brilliant work by Matt & Co. Great video I really enjoyed watching this one. Thanks for sharing . Ken
Maltese is the one I pick. Started getting fields ready for planting a few days ago went well played with the Versatile D145 a little. Now is our favorite time picking stones before planting. 😂😂😂
For some reason, this reminded me of the Stanley Baker movie Hell Drivers. Classic flick.
Great video 👍 gotta be the Maltese Mat for the show 👌 really good demonstration in how to drive a crash box 💪👌
I like these garden sheds on wheels, such a simple purpose built machine with no regards to the operator.
These restorations look superb.

Love the trucks they are gorgeous and i absolutely live the word "fuckwit" its so perfect for so many different types of uses
Got to take the Maltese to the show. And you really should do a ‘will it start’! What could possibly go wrong! 😅
Lord muck I love when you just come out and give em a good cussing
Great show, great trucks. Thank you.😊
Absolutely beautiful machines LM

Lovely sight of four beautiful restore matadors, each one with its own story to tell .thank you for restoring these special trucks ,for future generation to enjoy.
Classic and not an ounce of plastic.
These sound better than I could imagine. Very 760 like.
As soon as I saw it I was reminded of my old Airfix kit AEC Matador and 5.5 inch gun.
What an amazing line up of matadors they look and sound great. Would have to be option 3 the Maltese matador for me!
Always loved Matadors, great to see you guys obviously do too!
