My memories of the AEC Matador was when I was serving in the RAF, 69/71 I was on tactical signals. We had gone to Salisbury Plain on exercise with our comms equipment etc. For the return journey to RAF Tangmere I was nominated to navigate for the driver of a fully loaded Matador and drawbar trailer back to camp. What a journey, we must have hit a top speed of 30mph downhill. The uphill road towards Petersfield in Hampshire, we were reduced to less than walking pace. Every time I see a Matador I think of that journey. Happy days!!
More Matadors please, have lovely childhood memories of a Matador Timber Winch truck, 12 yrs old standing on the clutch pedal with both feet to change gear, & fighting with that huge steering wheel pulling with ever ounce of strength I had to turn the wheel, quite a job for a 12yr old girl to drive that lovely old thing and wonderful memories of the experience,..
An old family friend did his 5-year engineering apprenticeship with the British Army in the late 50's, mostly in West Germany during the Cold War. They were mostly working on AEC Matador (mk.3's?) that towed around radar appliances and huge generators to power them. Bill has loads of photos of his service time, with pics of the MAN's, Mercs and AEC's working in the snow. Bill is amazed that we Brits hold the German stuff in such high esteem as he rates the AEC's as being far better starters on minus 10c mornings and the AEC's often had to tow the MAN's off! Anyway, been back and "Liked" plenty of old videos.
YES! More Matador Content...I'll join up under another name, oi....and I'm a diesel Creek subscriber, so I'm doin' my bit to spread the Matador gospel. Rebuilding my 1942 CCKW to original nick...with a few mods. Oh, yeah: Brian Bashall himself taught my 17 year old self about the bow-wave technique at dunsfold land rovers back in the seventies
Loved the Matadors since seeing them at the AEC rallies at Wollaton Park in the 1990's. The mass startup of the Matadors for the parade was something to behold.
When I was 8 years old local tree surgeons, Dalrymples, used their Matador to haul timber from the Glory woods, near Dorking, I spent all my spare time watching the mat rear up to take the strain, At the same time as this local fairground folk, Bensons, used modified Scammell gun tractors for generating and hauling rides. both of these vehicles have been favourites of mine since that time. So the more Mat's the merrier!
Hav'nt seen the whole video yet, but this is a real treat! Much respect to anyone who is the curator to these trucks. Nobody realizes the dedication and man hours put into something like this. Brilliant! (from Manitoba Canada)
Yes please can we have more of these wonderful historical Madador trucks, it would be great to see the Maltese Matador restoration from start to finish if that is possible your doing great work 👌👏👍
Please please please do more matador content these trucks remind me of my dearly missed grandad who drove these when he worked for British road services and told us tales of his experiences keep up the good work guys
More Matadors, please! Loved these from a kid when a local transport firm had one as a wrecker. The yard is a housing estate today with the firm and wrecker long. forgotten. Keep up the great work!
I would love to see more Matador content on the channel. It’s not just the trucks, it’s the way you and Matt interact - he has such a droll sense of humour and facial expressions when you are narrating. As for the £15 ULEZ charge, you would certainly get a of emissions lot for your money with those engines. All the best for you and your channel in 2024, onwards and upwards! 👍❤️🙂
More Matador content, please. I love seeing these back in service. First fell in love with the Matador as a child when two examples were included in a model set of a RAF Fighter base. If I recall, there was a fuel bowser and an ordinance lorry. Also had a die cast of the RA artillery tractor. Cool old trucks. We appreciate them in the USA as well.
I’ve never seen or even heard of Matador trucks until now. But they’re extremely cool and I’d love to see more videos on them. Thanks a bunch for all you do to show us folks in the USA things we would likely never get to see if y’all hadn’t shown us
Wow friend so many beautiful old trucks a would love one but the cost probably would be too much 😢 please keep the great videos coming friend from Scotland 😊
I just found this video by chance. What a lovely looking lorry the Green one is. It's hard to imagine that they were once trundling up and down our old roads keeping the essential stock moving. Well done to you both for keeping these excellent machines alive. Looking forward to the next video. 👏👏
More on Matadors (and Fordsons, Dextas, Fergies, Schluters and anything else interesting with an engine!) please. We lost my dad in September but he loved your videos - i think it helped massively that you talk proper Norfolk! And something on Field Marshalls would be good too. Keep up the good work.
It's all on Patreon.com/lordmuck The subscription goes to the collie rescue and it helps prevent the moaning, tight-arsed whingers from getting free content that they still moan about.
Keep it up lads great to see all long distance lorry driver by trade but used to drive AEC coaches national express couldn't catch them good to see this work and content the effort you all put in is worth it have a great new year
Hello LM & Mat. Yes, please let’s have more Matadors on the channel. Personally, as a truck driver & AEC fan, I find all your Matador content very interesting indeed. In the village I grew up in, there was a wood yard. As I was school friends with the owners son I used to spend time there. And guess what they had in that yard? Matadors! Do well. 👍🏻👍🏻
I think this is what my Grandad had years ago. His was used for winching trees so that they fell the right direction in a tight spot. His had a winch, jib and ground anchors. I only remember going in it once and as there was only a drivers seat I had to sit on an Oak roundal 😊
These are neat trucks. We don’t have anything like that here. I can guarantee there is no way I could drive one. Everything about it is backwards from what I’m used to! Keep it up. Those trucks are very interesting!
More Matador content please. Just been to Llandudno Transport Festival and the Matadors stole the show. On the final day as always some of the more modern HGV’s got stuck and the Matadors were amazing recovering them. I think my main memory is how agile they were in the crowded show field. Passing jams to get to the stuck trucks, easily getting into position to recover, then effortlessly dealing with the soft ground and heavy loads. Perfection.
Loved the comment regarding carbon offset, I can see this logic catching on and I for one are off to get some fair trade cookies to go with my fair trade teabags. That way I will have some carbon credits to use on them cold mornings 👍 Great video and lovely to see these old work horses being kept alive.

Absolutely 100% more Matador content please. Can't wait.

I like the Matadoors; but seriously, make the videos that will make you smile. It is important to have fun.
More Matadors! Maybe link up with Matt from Diesel Creek who has a couple of vintage US army trucks? I bet he'd love the Matador...
Never heard of him.

The old AEC Matadors and Militants their is something nice about them. Good Video.
Those are some pretty cool trucks. That heavy haul one (green) was my favorite. Be cool to see some more on these
A lot of them were used to skid and haul timber after the war Kev
@@LordMuck I went to Google after I read this and found a short clip of one with a picker on the truck pulling a log wagon. That was pretty neat
Yes please! Watching you shift those gears like it was nothing haha fond memories of these trucks and festivals.
