That was outrageously complex for a filter change, but obviously couldn't have done mine without this walk-through. Thanks.
You're welcome and this is by far the lengthiest filter change out there. Go you on getting the job done.
This video helped me immensely. I brought it to BMW paid them $100 which included the filter. NFW was I even attempting this. Cost me a C-Note but saved me days of agony. Not hours, DAYS.
This one is a long process but I am glad we were able to show you it.

Out of the 5 videos to do the job this was the best!
Thank you!
Thanks a lot. This was very helpful in getting the job done!
You're welcome!
This should be the format for all tutorials 🤷🏾♂️
THANK YOU!
Great video, will be a 5 minute job instead of a 1-hour poke around and figure out thing for me now, thanks!
Happy to help!

the plastic clip for the vent, do not use a screwdriver and force, instead use a needle nose plier and squeeze from bottom its legs and push up. Much easier.

This is the best video on E36 cabin air filter replacement and glove box compartment removal/reinstall. However, it can be improved. There is one mistake in it - the bottom panel should be removed after the glove box has been removed. Yes, you first remove the two screws (Yes, there are two, one on the right, and one on the left side of the panel, not show in the video) securing the bottom panel to the structure, but do not pull the panel out - if you do, it is difficult and you may end up with torn or at least deformed panel . Remove the glove box first, as it is shown in the video, THEN remove the bottom panel. After you are done with the cabin air filter replacement, the installation of the glove box and bottom panel is in reverse order - first the panel, then the glove box. One more trick - before reinstalling the bottom panel, bend down with your thumb the two metal tongues which should engage the two cutouts in the bottom panel on the firewall - this makes possible the engagement of these two tongues in the panel - and after the installation of the panel, bend them up again for snug fit. One additional touch I did is to wrap with tape the sharp edges of the sheetmetal frame facing the maze of wires under and behind the glove box, as they are quite sharp and can cut some of the wires touching them.

You don’t even have to remove the glovebox.
@@rhar1044 Sure, you don't have to, but the bottom panel will end up all mangled up at the corners. Plus it is so much easier and there is much more space and visibility to work when you remove the glovebox.
Be warned... if you're not careful, you'll do what I did and break both of the clips behind that plastic piece with the vents on it above the glove box. Be VERY careful when pulling it off and learn from my stupid mistake.

Too late😂😂😂
i was getting furious cause i didn’t take my whole passenger side interior apart and i couldn’t see what i was doing so i ripped that shit off
Wow there is so much that can go wrong. I can't believe how complicated it is.
This is the most complicated cabin air filter installation.
This is just one of the many complicated maintenance reasons I will never ever buy a BMW again ! Ever change an e 36 starter ? What a joy !
Yes, this is a poor design. Luckily the newer models have a way better process.

Thanks, I just did it. This video was extremely helpful!
You're welcome!
This is ridiculous lol
Changing this cabin filter is more extensive then the average car install. Thank you for watching!
Right lol
Thanks BMW......what a load of shit! Wonder what the dealer charges for this? Appreciate the video, btw.
Yes this is one of the more difficult installations. You're welcome!
Very useful
Thanks a lot!
LoL at people saying this is hard, I had heard it from other people so I wanted to check and really it's not even remotely difficult. Sure it's not like an e46 where it's basically quick release but it's not uncommon at all to remove a glovebox for a cabin filter...
This change just takes some time to get done.

That’s why most e36 glove boxes are broken
Yes and this is the lengthiest cabin air filter replacement.
What a pain in the Doopah.
This is a lengthy process.

it is too complicated to remove the filter in BMW unlike to the other brand of cars...
Most BMWs are a lot easier to change. This installation process is by far one of the hardest and longest to do.
Ugh.
Yep, this is a long install.
