Beautiful and very exciting piece. It looks like Avi Avital starts with a mandocello (or maybe mandola) and then switches to mandolin. I'd love to know what the tuning is for the mandocello, which sounds like an oud on the low strings and a mandolin on the high strings. Once again, beautiful playing and thanks.

Your comment is very pertinent dear friend, I was listening to this song on spotify and wondered, what the hell is he playing ?! I know him for playing the mandolin but what I was hearing was a bit lower, as if it was two octaves lower and I thought the same as you, is he playin a mandola, we have this instrument in my country try and it's known for being played in old. Popular music genre!
So his instrument is between a mandolin and a mandola I guess
The mandola is a bit bigger than the mandolin

mandocello is same tuning as cello and he's playing a mandola or a tenor guitar. tuned a bit lower, cgda
