- During the Texas Revolution, Fort Alamo, located in present-day San Antonio, fell to President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna’s Mexican troops on March 6, 1836. This siege between Mexican forces and Texan rebels began on February 23, and after a grueling 13-day slog, all combatants fighting for Texan independence were killed, including two South Carolinians: William Barret Travis, and James Butler Bonham (both from Saluda, SC). Travis commanded jointly during this battle with James Bowie, and Bonham was sent twice with dispatches for reinforcements, but sadly, none ever came. Fellow Texans honored the actions of those who died at the battle- “Remember the Alamo” became a rallying cry in the struggle for an independent Texas. Santa Anna was eventually defeated at the Battle of San Jacinto on April 21, leading to a free Texas.
They should have mentioned the tejanos that fought alongside of the American Texan rebels.
The Tejanos were the Texans.
American or not, they fought and died together bravely in a dream for a free texas from Mexican oppression and tyranny.
All were Texans, all sacrificed for 13 days.
Let's not separate these great sacrifices by semantics but realize they came together for one common goal. Freedom.
Now-a-days you have people questioning if the fight was for the right cause, and now you have people saying that Texas should have stayed with Mexico, that Santa Ana was a good dictator. That the Texas revolution was a horrible thing. They fail to understand what it meant to be under Mexican law. How many suffered under cruelty and death. How insane taxation drove many into destitution and famine.
Let's not forget history and it's accuracies. Let's not let the clear waters be muddied and distorted.
Remember all of those who sacrificed, remember all those that were brave. Remember The Alamo.
😂 that was Mexicans against Mexicans don't be fooled. Texas is part of Mexico including California and Arizona
@@al-mz1wy ummm...it was Texans who came from other parts of the country to set up homesteads and create a way of life for their families. Mexicans and non-mexicans.
It was not Mexicans against Mexicans. It was Texans and native Tejanos vs. Santa Ana Mexico.
Texas and California are no longer a part of Mexico since the surrender of them at Santa Ana's defeat
@@al-mz1wy they still called themselves tejanos and they were fighting against Spanish rule not Mexican rule
@@Brothersam oh boy you were brain washed in school. They were fighting because the US had stolen that territory from Mexico, so they could not be called tejanos because Texas was not invented yet. And Santa Ana was fighting to get their land back. And it was us troops against Mexicans periodm
William B Travis kids are buried in my home town Chappell Hill, TX
Williams Barrett Travis was from Alabama…
Remember the Alamo guys
Don't forget the Tennesseans. Especially Davy Crockett.
GBO Baby.. 🍊😏
I can already hear the latinx "vIvE sAnTA AnNa"
Nah, only edgy Latinos
I can hear the blue eyed demons saying "Muh texus"
Its funny how texan independence was fought by yankees that were not mexican
Many Tejanos (Native Texan Mexicans) like Juan Seguin and Gregorio Ezparza fought for Texan Independence. That's because they also recognized that Santa Anna was a mad dictator.
@@oscarbarreto6348many non-Texan and young people in America are ignorant to actual Texas history.
A lot of them were Mexican citizens technically
@@oscarbarreto6348 my guy, these are 2 examples just as I could give tons of Yankees changing sides, America had been trying to seize Texas through the colonization of it by sending American settlers since Spanish rule in Mexico, even some paramilitary attempts to occupy the territory and form a Yankee republic that would later on join the union were made with American filibuster expeditions, most notably the Long Expedition or other disgusting complots such as the burr conspiracy, east and west Florida republic, Amelia island controversy, republic of Florida, first Seminole war ETC ETC ETC, whenever you see states like Alabama, Missouri, Florida or Louisiana, never forget they were forged due to the sick whim of a slave owner
@@oscarbarreto6348 Juan Seguin later joined the Mexican army due to the angloid opression over the republic of Texas and how Hispanic interests had been thrown out the window, being replaced with what Yankees love the most; slavery, he saw how stupid and foolish he was revolting from Mexico, and joined Mexico itself.
Esparza was a mason paid by America, almost like a mercenary.
It’s pretty funny you say there were Hispanics on the Texan side too, because in case you didn’t know, an entire American batallion and officer deserted and joined the Mexican army, for obvious reasons, upon their capture by the US, they were all hanged up indiscriminately
🎉🇲🇽🎉 viva México y santa anna

Bro got destroyed by Texas alone
