- Many know the first part of Jonah's story, when the rebellious prophet who defies God is swallowed by a whale. Yet in the second part we find one of the most powerful and important lessons of the Bible. Jonah shows how, if we would understand the mercy of God, it will always take us in directions we would rather not go, toward people we would rather not care about, and ultimately into the deepest counsels of God.
This man of God will be greatly miss 😪 💔My condolences to his family, friends, and church members. Thank God for him and for his teachings which are part of his great legacy 🙏💝
I believe Ninevites were saved by Matthew 12:41 and Luke 11:32 The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.

Tim Keller thank you for sharing so much of yourself when you speak. You have opened my eyes to the beauty of the Bible. I am not a Christian but I love listening to you. Thank God there is a person with sense sharing their knowledge in today’s world. It is very easy to be an armchair critic. I hope you will continue for many years. 🙏🏻

You say you are not a Christian but you aknowledge the Christian God by saying '...thank God....' the God Tim is teaching about, you cannot acknowledge a God without believing He exists, which makes you a Christian(one who believes in God) there is only one real God anyway.

I had the same question as the lady in the front. It’s very difficult to do missions or even share the gospel in places where people have no real felt needs & think that being a moral person & showing up to church on holidays or Sundays makes them a Christian. That are more than satisfied w/their religion. They literally are so indifferent to the gospel bc their life in sin is fun & w/o any felt consequences. I think the hardest soil to penetrate, is that of an affluent suburb. What else can we do really besides pray for God to intervene & for their hearts to be softened. That any seeds planted may be given increase fm Jesus? It’s so hard & discouraging some days. So glad she asked this question!
It is our own Personal responsibility to love others but the government should protect our freedom. I think that is why these are two different issues. To love your neighbors doesn't mean you bring everyone into your own house without questioning them. Let us be realistic too.
Isn't that how Judas did it ... Masquerading as a "social justice warrior" for the poor ... He fooled everyone but Jesus ... This guy is a FRAUD ...

@@michaelbrickley2443 I've listened to Tim Keller a lot and this sermon got me a little worked up.
The reason people are developing a bad attitude toward immigrants is because they're flooding the southern border causing all kinds of harm to locals. Causing chaos, trafficking children, drugs, and criminals.
I'm not saying it's all of them. There are genuinely people that want to cross for a better life, but dang it, there are just too many to sift through! Sometimes a president has to choose the lesser of two evils because those are his only choices. And he's responsible for HIS people, not MEXICO'S or any other country's. He must make decisions that protect us. It's his duty.
I don't like where Tim went in this sermon. I don't doubt his love for the Lord or his immense knowledge, but the fact that he sounds so soft on the very critical issues he covered makes me wonder if he's becoming a liberal minded "Christian". That prospect makes me sad.
Get out of here lol. Racism is not a big thing in America. Division is growing by class and by ideologies.
Racism will always exist, but America has done a great in eradicating most of it. The left idealogues are trying to stoke it up again.
I wish Tim would respond to this comment. I want to know where he stands. This wasn't clear enough for me to draw a conclusion, but it put me on edge. It's very important to know these things because the church has been infected by liberalism. It's being torn apart from the inside out. I'm sorry if this offends, but sadly it's absolutely true.

ALL American churches, refocus missions money/effort & send groups to the boarder to go help wash feet & feed people & host some VBS groups there while people wait to get the immigration process? What IF American Churches trusted God (not government) to use our meager bread & fish to feed the thousands? Wouldn’t that demonstrate a new + fresh love of Christ to young people in this generation who think Christians are frauds & that Christianity is of no significance today?

Regarding immigration: The Bible says laws will apply EQUALLY to the native and the foreigner. So we are not be harsher to the immigrant, but they are not exempt from our laws either! They do not get to bring in Sharia law. They do not get to go to the front of the line for help. They need to assimilate. To me that also means that they need to learn to speak English . They don't have to give up their native language, but they should be able to deal with schools and other government officials in English.
If I may, assimilation is not what the answer is. That is a racist ethnocentric assumption that your way is the best way, and that people born not in the US need to do as you do or they are wrong, that is not biblical. Also, English is not the official language of the U.S. even, language should not be a means of discrimination, as our social structures are not geared towards teaching new immigrants English, most, I would know from my working every day with immigrants, are very eager to learn, but life in a foreign country where you are working a job you are overqualified for just to meet your family's basic needs is pretty difficult. You are talking about what is not just.

America needs to be united. One language would help us overcome misunderstandings, help us become friends and neighbors.
Immigrants don't need to give up their language and culture, but they do need to learn to fit into our society. Here in America everybody needs to drive on the right side of the road so traffic will flow and accidents are avoided. That is not saying that driving on the right is a superior way of doing things, its just how it is done here.
If you’re going to quote Gen 11:6 literally, I don’t think the English language is going to get you very far.
@@kkataleiss4207 I feel like you are missing the point of Genesis 11. It is not talking about assimilation. Speaking one language in this passage was not a good thing, it caused man to further it's rebellion against God, and also was used as a way for man to strive to become like God. That is why God chose to confuse the languages. You really need to work on your interpretation and read in context friend! This will better help you apply Scripture to your daily life, rather than pull verses out of context to suit your own desires.
@@brandonwitmyer8436 The rebellion was not good. A common language did NOT cause the rebellion, it just made it powerful. God chose to confuse the language as the quickest way to destroy the unity of the rebels. America needs more unity and understanding right now. Language is a powerful tool. We can use it for good or use it for evil. Lets use it for good.
Wonderful presentation, love and respect Pastor Tim K. But confused by one of the questions. Gentleman stated he was an ex-SDA pastor and asked about future of hispanic churches. A fine question. However, what does it have to do w/ being an ex-SDA pastor? As a Christian by faith, and an SDA by denomination, I often hear these types of question w/o understanding the relationships; explicit or implicit.
Or, should I just say 'huh' and move on?

What is the exact location of the Calvin quote from the Institutes???
This might be useless to you now but here goes. I don't have the version of The Institutes that Tim Keller is using that is separated into different books and is very long but I think I found what he was referring to. In "The Institutes of the Christian Religion: Calvin's own 'Essentials' Edition" that is a translation of Calvin's 1541 French Edition, I found a section in Chapter 17: The Christian Life called "Love to the unlovely". This is on page 795:
"If someone, then turns up who needs our help, we have no reason to refuse him. What if we claim that he is a stranger? We are reminded that the Lord stamped him with a mark which should be familiar to us. What if we say the man is worthless and beneath contempt? The Lord replies that he has honoured him by causing his own image to shine within him. What if we say we owe him nothing? The Lord tells us that he has put him as a substitute in his own place: we are to think of him as the one for whose sake God has bestowed his blessings on us*...We should hazard our lives and goods on account of God's image which we are meant to see in him. Even supposing the man deserved nothing from us, but instead had grossly abused and injured us, that would not be sufficient reason to stop loving him or doing him a favour. For if we argue that he has deserved nothing of the kind from us, God might well ask what he himself has deserved. For when he commands us to forgive men of their sins against us, he lays those sins to his own charge."
*The footnote here reads: Calvin's meaning is that God's image, placed by him in every human person, makes that person a spiritual being, a proxy, as it were, of God himself, 'put in God's own place'.
I think this is what Tim Keller is referring to. He must have a slightly different translation.

Why did Calvin and the other reformers kill the AnaBaptist’s? How did they justify that? How is that loving their neighbors? Apparently they thought they were doing God’s will. My Protestant friends just deny that this even happened.

What does the word say about immigration? Yes, you are qualified to talk about Trumps policy, because you just quoted what the word says a few minutes ago! The word constantly talks about how to treat the poor and foreign...just one verse, about letting the widow, poor, orphan, foreign glean among you.
And as he says, the attitude that we should not, that we can only take so many, is deeply unChristian. What he's refusing to comment on is whether that's the motivation behind the policy, or if the motivation is, as proponents claim, more economic/defensive.
I do feel he is dodging the question. But in a way, he's right. Assume, for the sake of argument, that there was a legitimate economic problem, or a legitimate criminality problem, with immigration (there's not. We're still hiring immigrants because we need workers). Suppose, say, that we had too many widows and not enough fields to glean. Then there would need to be someone to say "I'm sorry, we don't have wheat to glean. Please try another field." And this is true--Democrats, despite what the GOP says, aren't for totally open borders either. And what Keller is saying is that he doesn't have the expertise to determine whether we're there or not. It's a sensible exception to take--indeed, an exception ministers like Franklin Graham and John MacCarthur might benefit from.
Again, he's definitely evading talking about Trump himself. But it's worth noting that Keller was one of many ministers who signed a petition protesting Trump's position on the Syrian refugees.
There is a difference between government policy and how we as individuals should act out Christ's commands.
@@Afalstein It is not unchristian to understand that we have limited resources. Jesus fed 5000 with only a couple of loaves and fishes. Can our government do that? No, it cannot. If you can, then go help. But don't vote to use taxpayer money to do something Jesus told the church and his followers to do.

It’s not obvious they didn’t convert at all, Tim is making the scripture say what he thinks not what it says at all. It actually says they believed God.
Pastor Keller is confusing “race” and ethnicity. He’s importing a modern idea into the text and I find that very dishonest.
amen, Tim Keller is a false teacher. So are sadly most of if not all of TGC. They are involved in the modern-day Galatians heresy of adding works to faith alone. On Keller, ES Williams and other elders and pastors in the church have spoken out against. Keller redefines repentance, salvation, new birth.

KJV made more since than this, I had to take a class where they said words like homogeneous and also tried to make me hate Jesus and white people especially male and I thought they crazy, up to that point of my life I had to come to the acceptance of loving who God made me in this skin and NOW I am to hate it- Devil is a liar!
