It all went wrong with the seventh gen. During the golden age (early 2000s to early 2010s) videogames began mainstream and everyone understood how much money this industry could generate. Then the corporate greed started to slowly infect the media, wich lead to a lot of developers being lazy, unoriginal and having an overall lack of passion that was also combined to a general misunderstanding of what gamers want. Of course it s not all bad, there are still some amazing games but it s undeniable that most of AAA gaming got worse.
couldn't agree more but im hopeful for the future because the tide seems to be shifting back towards actual good games being made again thanks the years of backlash from the community and people finally realizing good games will make more money and it seems devs and publishes are finally starting to get their heads out of their asses
Things usually deteriorate once they become mainstream. We saw it happen to TV and movies, now it's happening to gaming, or really, it's been happening to gaming. I like to call it Mainstream Syndrome.
Pretty accurate. The earlier games felt like they had passion behind them and a goal. Later it turned into a bunch of ideas from other games and completely lost that charm that it was built on. More bland locations and less appealing art style. I personally was no fan of the soundtracks from halo 4 and onward, sure there were a few good ones but it felt more like watching a movie and thus a bit forgettable.
The consumers are mostly to blame though. Let’s be honest. Call of Duty wouldn’t be selling rubber duck operators in their shop and pushing SBMM on everyone to optimize player retention if the consumers demonstrated some basic self control and pride
343i is a lesson on corporate hubris and we see that at multiple game dev studios these days. The biggest problem with devs these day is this utter and unshakable belief that they are right. Fan reaction, poor sales, qa testers, content creators? No, theyre all wrong. Our vision is flawless, they just dont get it! Its a combination of corporate culture and the infection of games are art people into the industry. Originally a game studio would be made up of and headed by enthusiasts, people who wanted to make a fun experience, who played games themselves for the love of the game. Now the leadership of these companies are made up of HR officers, art and polysci majors, or Patrick Bateman expies. How many times are gamers going to fall for the "we hear you, we acknowledge your worries and complaints, were returning to form, our community is important to us" only for the product to be the exact same slop as previous but somehow worse? They never learn the lessons from their failed projects. They simply shut their eyes and plug their ears and say. "We know better, our story, our art, is outstanding, the fanbase doesnt know what it wants and is wrong!" They go on to remove the few things players liked and double down for their next entry and a portion of the base gobble it up. Just look at the content creators soyjacking over 343i being "dead" its not dead. Its literally the same company with a name change. Its a rebrand due to bad PR. Literally nothing will change with the next Halo title. I dont even bother with AAA slop anymore.
Real as fuck and i couldn’t agree more but i also feel a tide shift is coming in the industry after the success of games like elden ring poe2 and bg3 and moments like swen vincke’s speech at the game awards that served as a pretty good wake up call to the industry
These people have clearly never heard the saying, “The customer is always right.” Like it doesn’t matter how much you may think the customer isn’t understanding what you’re trying to do or is wrong, you literally NEED to make them happy in order to sell your product.
I still cringe at all the videos with titles like "343 is dead, LONG LIVE HALO STUDIOS" acting like the franchise was saved just because a few hats got swapped around within the company & they changed its name
22:03 I dont agree, it was different yes but it didnt "suck". Just listen to something like 117, faithless, awakening, arrival. The menu theme isnt even that bad
The saddest part is how so many of the fans refuse to acknowledge the continuing decline & will act like the franchise is making a huge comeback because we got ONE new boring game mode after 3 months of nothing aside from the paid cosmetics that look nothing like Halo armour
Real especially after so many years of disappointment it’s almost like they don’t want better for themselves it’s sad that they settle for less and defend dogshit when they deserve better
Reach was the turning point and start of the downfall, the story of it could have been so much better, yeah it doesn't have to copy the book, but you can really feel that it was written by Frank O'Conner. Campaign gameplay also suffered, since turning the Elites into hyperactive dodge masters and on top of that giving some of them the strongest weapons they ever had, while you got some of the weakest grenades in series at that point and in general lower dmg output on your end, was a terrible idea and made them for the first time not fun to fight. On the Multiplayer side the basic map pool was the worst 1.0 map pool ever until Halo 4 came out, yeah the massive amount of forge maps that got added into the matchmaking helped, but it came with the downside that now you're going to look at the same gray and the same basic forge buildings everywhere, which got boring to look at fast. That problem was also a thing for Custom games in that game ofc. Yeah, the forge and Custom games got improved over that from Halo 3, but H3's was still more fun, and it looked and felt better. The point that annoyed me the most was that Reach ruined the vehicle sandbox again, just way worse this time, after H3/ODST fixed the problems of H2's vehicle sandbox. And ofc the well known main points: weapon bloom and the sandbox and/or map design breaking abilities.
The dig site leak, news about new management being no different with old management, and the treatment of the fan base makes this video aged like fine wine.
Give this video time for the views and likes cause it’s really good but as a halo content creator I think that halo can be great again just the developers need to lock in and make a fully working halo game because infinite is a good game I think the gameplay is some of the best, the problem is the lack of updates and new content also it launched horribly
26:30 - I didnt just refund the game when this happened. I refunded the entire console. To this day, i regret not switching to PS4 when those consoles launched.
This is what happens when greed takes over love and passion. People who think they know how to make money, only know how to milk from the people who actually make money.
Original Halos took the whole sandbox and polished it and balanced it as a whole. Then they added a secondary layer of balance by creating separate playlists with unique map sets. You want casual, you play social, you want competitive, play ranked, you want ultra competitive, play MLG. It also incentivized you to play other playlists, by giving you a unique rank in each playlist. Above all, you have to make sure the foundation (including campaign) is solid before adding to it, and that’s where 343 doesn’t have it.
I got the MCC recently because I was a PS2/3 kid and had never played Halo before. For $9 on sale I can say I got quite a bargain and I see what all the hype was about back in the day. It's a shame I never got to experience it.
Despite Halo 4 being my first Halo experience, when I tried Halo CE, i was completely hooked and from then on until now Ive become a big fan of Bungie's Halo, it just felt different, it was truly an era of when Halo still had its soul and Im abit sad that I didnt get to experience the franchise during its peak, Halo 5 multiplayer (PVE) was the really fun tho, also the movie Forward Unto Dawn, the books and lore but other than that thats probably the only things 343 did right, they really fumbled with 4, 5 campaign and Infinite
At this point i washed my hands of this franchise that's helped me through me entire childhood and teen years. Fuck corps turning my fond memories into poison, a painful reminder of how damned halo has become. Only bungie really understood halo, and even then, they washed their hands of it as soon as they could.
Honestly, give halo to Saber Interactive. With how much effort they put into making sure Space Marine 2 as lore accurate as possible, and there’s ex halo MP devs on the team, I’d say that’s our best choice to get a real halo experience back. Not even current day bungie could do it right I fear
For the longest time, I've had trouble putting into words how much fun i had playing OG Halo, how much i loved the trilogy and spin-offs & EQUALLY, I've had trouble putting into words my hatred and strong disdain i have for 343's 💩 because of how it made me feel while playing it...SOUL-LESS But you have expertly conveyed how strong my love for Bungie & hatred for 343 in just 49 minutes....& for that I thank you
Ngl the music and design i can really just chalk up to being nostalgic and u can hate something if its not something that can evoke nostalgia from good old memories, i do agree tho writing for new halo games seemed to be getting really bad and that gameplay seems pretty boring at times
I'm going to have to disagree with you on your opinion Halo 4's soundtrack. While it's unfortunate that we didn't get Marty to help with the audio, Neil has a style of his own that I genuinely enjoyed. I would also like to add that Bungie's Halo music is an anomaly that would be difficult to recreate without straight up plagiarism.
I know I may sound wrong. But to the dev guy who said pitched ODST game similar to Helldiver 2, if you said that then, why you are 'former' dev. Oh wait, cus of Halo Infinite that's why. (Context: They apparently didn't do anything aside prototyping and pitching ideas that they hadn't support Halo Infinite post launch and so they job gone. And in my opinion the article sound pretentious like wow really)
I'm surprised people didn't wise up to 343's bs alot sooner. They're also part of the reason Halo went into free-fall - learn to vote with your wallet people
I feel like the rebrand is just bs to save face. Too many companies and even gamers themselves are too hyper-focused on graphics these days. Its why games take so absurdly long to make now, and why none of them are fun, because when you blow your entire budget trying to make a game look like a movie, there's no more time or money left to make the game actually fun.
Halo 4 wasn’t that bad man i actually liked how they tried humanize master chief but all of that character development was tossed in the trash with Halo 5. If it was followed up by a better sequel it would be looked at more fondly
I waited with Infinite until 3 months ago, when people started saying that it finally is in a 1.0 state, glad I did wait, because I am having fun with it now, it has the best forge and Custom games in the series and unlike 4 & 5 it really feels like a sequel to H3. Infinite's campaign could have become something good if they had changed and upgraded the old cutscenes, missions and open world and added more missions and open world parts, it was just dumb of them to drop the ball on everything that was planned or in the works already. At least the gameplay felt good again after the bullshit enemies of H4 & 5, yeah it's missing an epic moment and that H3 to this today still has the biggest fights in a Halo FPS campaign is sad, unless we count the unofficial campaigns in Custom games... The Tech is there, we could have Halo Wars battle sizes with a lot of AI allies and enemies in an official campaign by now, the unofficial campaigns definitely show that it's possible to get close to it with 24 player Spartans + 10~20 Marines vs 50+ enemies. (I am used to unfinished games since BF3, that buggy mess was at least somewhat funny back then, but with BF4 onward I just stopped with starting games on release day and wait until multiple content creators tell that a game reached a releasable 1.0 state, months or years after the release days. Saved me from many shitty experiences, including the many years until MCC was in an okay state, even if the Co-op to this day still is unstable as f*** xD) That the live service failed had at least the upside that the battle pass is useless = the only thing that is better than a useless battle pass is - no battle pass. That they sell most of the Customization is no problem for me, I played like 10k+ hours of Custom Edition multiplayer, I am used to seeing everyone in blue or red Mark V, even in H3 I saw most of the people in blue or red Mark VI. Customization matters in an RPG's, in Halo it doesn't really matter, all you do with it is to buy your favourite colour ones, put that colour on all your stuff and never look at the shop again.
This video is so well done, I’ve been super busy with school and haven’t been playing games. Just randomly started playing MCC again on Pc and I remembered why I loved halo so much when I was younger. It’s really unfortunate how 343 fumbled halo so badly. To me besides all of the other issues with halo. The change in art style is what is so off putting by most of the modern halo games. Infinite did so much right but they really fucked it up so horribly with the “live service model “ and their terrible engine. Besides that I thought the gameplay and campaign was so much better. It’s so unfortunate that they mess it up every game when they have a checklist that they can follow which would be any of the bungie games like halo 3 and reach. Your video deserves lot more views
preciate it! i also still hop on MCC once in a while and its a lot of fun and I'm glad we at least have that because 343 just cant seem to make a good halo game after all these years and I couldn't agree more about the artstyle something about 343s halos just feel so soulless but maybe one day they'll get it right
Max payne was my first game I ever played at the age of 3 Halo combat involved was my second game I played just the story thou and halo 2 I was a pre teen when halo 3 came out I remember walking into the living room one day after school and the rest is history bam early b day present met tones of people I no longer talk to or know anything about
Halo was a trend/fad. It was a popular thing for awhile, and then it faded, which is what happens to any popularized thing eventually. Lastly, Halo isnt that special when you have been playing modern FPS games since 1991 to 2024, because it borrowed a lot from previous FPS games and simply popularized those ideas. Same can be said for Goldeneye 007, which also took almost everything from previous FPS games or Light Gun games, with its main inspiration being Virtua Cop (1994). The problem with popularized things like Halo and Goldeneye 007 is that because of popularity, they are constantly over-praised, over-credited, and overrated due to ignorance, as well as being seen through rose tinted glasses due to nostalgia because Goldeneye 007 or Halo were the first FPS game many people played, or were the only FPS game that people played. Thus, this leads to misinformation, disinformation, false credit/praise, etc. surrounding the popular thing. Popularity does not equal quality, impact, or innovation.
halo infinite literally killed the entire franchise. We had waited like 6 years for a new halo fps title only for it to be the worst entry yet. Now we are probably going to have to wait at least 3 more years for another halo game in general, but regardless nobody is touching halo every again since infinite made halo into one of the worst fps franchises on the market
@ none of those games killed the franchise more than infinite did. The devs lied about so many things, made us wait 6 years, ended the game on a cliff hanger, then havent released anything in 4 years. Not only that but it had the worst mp launch in the series history
In my opinion . Halo 2 is the definitive best halo out there. The campaign . The multiplayer was the ultimate step in online pvp for fps games . Halo 3 did it all better than Halo 2 no doubt . But Halo 2 did it all first
Just want to start by saying you had a lot of valid points and it was enjoyable. Although I'm not sure I'd recommend it because your points get overshadowed by you making comments like "Mentally stunted people" and constant references to "virtue signaling" which just make it sound like you're another bro complaining. Also you had inaccuracies, as you can mix and match armor pieces in Infitinite. Maybe it wasn't initially available, but as of the start of 2024 only certain pieces of armor are restricted to certain armor. I can wear Emile's helmet on any armor instead of just the Mark 5. Halo fell off for sure, but future videos you'll probably get high views and interaction if you left your personal opinions on things that aggravated you on the cutting room floor and ensured accuracy of your critiques.
tried my best not to say the R word when talking about people who ran one of the biggest franchises ever into the ground over the course of a decade and a half but I understand where you're coming from I'm also not the type to care much about sociopolitics but with how much its been forced into the gaming over the past few years I felt like mentioning it and I also kept the part in about the armor core system because it still plays a big role into the downfall of halo infinite and was only fixed after the game was basically dead but I appreciate the criticism and thanks for watching!
It’s always sad to see the rare occasion of other content creators talking about Halo but not understand what Halo truly was. It’s too bad you dislike Halo 4 that much though. Though I wouldn’t put it above any bungee games, I think it has a lot of good moments, dialogue, levels and soundtrack that warrants some level of recognition.
ill admit i was abit harsh on halo 4 but that game is what made most people drop the franchise and till this day is seen by most as the beginning of the end for halo
@@verfallend Oh yeah for sure, but I think with Halo 5 being what it was, at least how I felt about it, I think some are looking at Halo 4 differently. If anything, I can still say it feels like Halo, some of those moments anyways. In terms of the art style as well, it has a place in my fictional Halo verse, but I wouldn't want to see it in another Halo game again XD
i replayed halo 4 on lengendary for some reason countless times. i was a kid then, but it feels like a blur to me. absolutely none of what i played stuck out to me. it was a slow lazy river i couldnt be any more happier to get out of. but at least the graphics were good on aging 2005 hardware lol
i love the classics halo as much as the other classic halo enjoyers. but oh boy halo 2 and 3's campaigns. i just dont like em lol. theyre fun, but the stories r kinda meh. halo 3's first hour is rlly boring. i thought maybe it was cuz i was a gameplay overr story kinda guy but i couldnt tell you one thing i actualy liked about the story. mayb its cuz i like halo reach a little too much lol
Do you really think Halo Infinite is worthless? The multiplayer is solid and fun, sure the launch had very little multiplayer content and no coop lol (for what I know the consequences of using a propietary engine + contractors). But the campaign missions are good and fun, the story and mistery of Zeta Halo is actually interesting and the open world is not that good but at least it isn't ubisoft bad, halo infinite is way better that h4/h5 and a return to form imo, why so negative?
“Halo’s downfall” is only a perception, not reality. Halo4, Halo5, and Halo Infinite all sold more at release than their predecessors, all had massively successful first years, all got great critic ratings, (even infinite is currently sitting at a mid-80’s player score and upper 80’s-low 90’s critic score) and infinite still has a massive population 3 years later on Xbox (still listed in Xbox’s Most Played Games, based on active population) and new Halo games are still being made. People have been saying Halos “dead” for 15+years, not only is it not true, but it’s never once been even a little true. The community negativity fuels the false perception that this franchise is clinging to the brink of extinction, but every available piece of evidence proves that it’s not. It’s a wild phenomenon to watch (as someone who’s been to every halo midnight release since 2001)
@ they rebranded because of the constant negativity surrounding “343”, despite the games actually doing quite well, Halo fans love nothing more than to shit on the series and trash the studio, they also rebranded to signify a new era with the switch to Unreal 5, not because halo is in some dire state on the edge of oblivion. That only exists in the minds and imaginations of the toxic side of this fanbase.
you have some valid points but boiling down halo falling off to “community delusion and toxicity” is pretty funny because the reason why the community is so toxic is thanks to 343 ruining halo and disappointing the community over and over also “successful first years” is an awful metric for actual success because what actually matters is player retention and player satisfaction and every single 343 halo failed miserably at both of those things and the reality is people only bought those games because of what bungie built and where they left off such as halo 3s cliffhanger and all 343 did was piggyback off of that success and all 343s halos ever got in terms of success was initial sales and the moment people realized how bad and poorly maintained the games were they stopped playing them and buying them which is why player numbers and sales numbers for every single 343 halo takes a nose dive off of a cliff not long after release unlike any of bungies halos that maintained growth and success years after release and the reality is although halo may not be “dead” it's a shell of its former self and its current player numbers are nothing short of embarrassing for a flagship title with that much funding and history behind it so saying that a free to play game like infinite is in Xbox’s top played as a argument as to why it’s not dead doesn’t really work when this franchise used to be one of the most played and talked about in existence until it fell into the hands of 343 and there’s a very good reason as to why less than a fraction of the people who used to play or talk about halo still do and all we get now are videos like mine and people nostalgia tripping and it’s not just some weird phenomenon or the community being toxic it’s simply the fact that 343 ruined halo

All 343 had to do was improve on what Halo 3 did.
Re: Destiny, All Bungie had to do was improve what Halo did.
That intro was so beautiful.
Glad you fw it means a lot!
Good video keep up the good work
This vid is very well made it deserves way more views
means a lot!
@11:03 Halo was meant to be MYTHical
Halo Studio needs to undo EVERYTHING 343 did.
Real and I hope they do but it seems pretty unlikely
28:40 OMFG I FEEL THE SAME WAY. i always play h2 with og graphics i cant stand the shinier graphics they just look off for some reason
This is so real feels like good halo is relic of a bygone past it truly feels over now
I waited with Infinite until 3 months ago, when people started saying that it finally is in a 1.0 state, glad I did wait, because I am having fun with it now, it has the best forge and Custom games in the series and unlike 4 & 5 it really feels like a sequel to H3.
Saved me from many shitty experiences, including the many years until MCC was in an okay state, even if the Co-op to this day still is unstable as f*** xD)
That the live service failed had at least the upside that the battle pass is useless = the only thing that is better than a useless battle pass is - no battle pass.
Your video deserves lot more views
preciate it! i also still hop on MCC once in a while and its a lot of fun and I'm glad we at least have that because 343 just cant seem to make a good halo game after all these years and I couldn't agree more about the artstyle something about 343s halos just feel so soulless but maybe one day they'll get it right
I liked Halo 5 (multiplayer)
It was definitely fun at times
I like halo 5 campaign and multiplayer
I love Halo 2 Anniversary, but I will admit to say that it's even anywhere near as great as the classic Halo 2 is CRIMINAL...
Bungie made ODST in cave, with a box of scraps!
Max payne was my first game I ever played at the age of 3 Halo combat involved was my second game I played just the story thou and halo 2 I was a pre teen when halo 3 came out I remember walking into the living room one day after school and the rest is history bam early b day present met tones of people I no longer talk to or know anything about
There hasn't been an AO rated flood horror game in the decade and a half they've had the IP. Loss no matter what they do.
The amount of wasted potential is actually criminal
All the GUYS who made the original games are all gone, now we have "modern developers"
This deserves millions of views
All i have to say is that i loved the halo 4 soundtrack
The crappy thing is Bungie themselves are just as bad at this stuff now too. Look at Destiny 2.
Halo CE was revolutionary, what are you talking about kid. FPS games wouldn't be the same without it
Honestly, anything after halo 4. I basically consider it a different timeline. An alternative timeline.
Anything after Halo 3 is bad fanfic
Once bungie left it was wraps.
halo just need proper developers
halo infinite literally killed the entire franchise. We had waited like 6 years for a new halo fps title only for it to be the worst entry yet. Now we are probably going to have to wait at least 3 more years for another halo game in general, but regardless nobody is touching halo every again since infinite made halo into one of the worst fps franchises on the market
Infinite was not the worst of the franchise lmao. However, reach, 4, and 5 are good candidates for that
@ none of those games killed the franchise more than infinite did.
But Halo 2 did it all first
Woah I was just watching late night I didn’t pay attention to views or subs I thought this was something with a lot of views congrats man
Means a lot man
Just want to start by saying you had a lot of valid points and it was enjoyable.
I bought the first three xboxes in large part due to halo. my xb1 is the halo 5 special edition one. I switched to ps5 this gen lol
Lmao that sums up the state of halo perfectly crazy that they did this to their flagship title
preach bro. nowadays even a former xbox shill like myself has to admit they are cooked. ruining their best series is just the icing on the shit cake
People are too hard on halo 4. The multiplayer. I don’t care about the campaign.
A like and a comment for the Almighty Algorithm.
Merry Christmas to everyone ❤🤍🎄✝
Wish you all the best great health and happiness!
I’ll believe Halo Studios is different when they outright condemn 343i
Real
Now we wait for their downfall just like their father
Yeah shame halo has become trash now. You're 100% right MCC was a disaster at launch. I still see many cheaters on it though. Cool video bro!
noble 6 is still alive bro I'm him
Halo died when bungie left
i love the classics halo as much as the other classic halo enjoyers. but oh boy halo 2 and 3's campaigns. i just dont like em lol. theyre fun, but the stories r kinda meh. halo 3's first hour is rlly boring. i thought maybe it was cuz i was a gameplay overr story kinda guy but i couldnt tell you one thing i actualy liked about the story. mayb its cuz i like halo reach a little too much lol
Never gonna happen.
So why not just consider leave the IP.
Lots of people do it these days with Star Wars, just saying.

Another day, another video on why halo is a failure
definitely a topic thats been done to death but halo isn’t a failure 343 and Microsoft failed halo
It’s a wild phenomenon to watch (as someone who’s been to every halo midnight release since 2001)
By that logic Halo is in the best place it’s ever been. I guess 343 rebranded because Halo is doing so well.
@@gabethebabe3337And Bonnie Ross and co had to leave because they were doing too well with the Halo IP
you have some valid points but boiling down halo falling off to “community delusion and toxicity” is pretty funny because the reason why the community is so toxic is thanks to 343 ruining halo and disappointing the community over and over also “successful first years” is an awful metric for actual success because what actually matters is player retention and player satisfaction and every single 343 halo failed miserably at both of those things and the reality is people only bought those games because of what bungie built and where they left off such as halo 3s cliffhanger and all 343 did was piggyback off of that success and all 343s halos ever got in terms of success was initial sales and the moment people realized how bad and poorly maintained the games were they stopped playing them and buying them which is why player numbers and sales numbers for every single 343 halo takes a nose dive off of a cliff not long after release unlike any of bungies halos that maintained growth and success years after release and the reality is although halo may not be “dead” it's a shell of its former self and its current player numbers are nothing short of embarrassing for a flagship title with that much funding and history behind it so saying that a free to play game like infinite is in Xbox’s top played as a argument as to why it’s not dead doesn’t really work when this franchise used to be one of the most played and talked about in existence until it fell into the hands of 343 and there’s a very good reason as to why less than a fraction of the people who used to play or talk about halo still do and all we get now are videos like mine and people nostalgia tripping and it’s not just some weird phenomenon or the community being toxic it’s simply the fact that 343 ruined halo
@@verfallend cope and cry harder
I just realised, I haven't given a fuck about Halo in so long. And I'm so glad too. Ugh! What a gross franchise. It's gross, and boring.
