Loving the subtitles, if you don't have them turned on, check them out
I wish we got to see the complete process of one chain rather than little snippets of a dozen different chains.
Great video. Appreciated the factory sounds and no commentary instead of loud obnoxious music.
I love watching stuff like this!

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
Quite the process on a large scale and refreshing to see the continuous ongoing of quality control.
✌😎

Time for some new doors on the welding machine!
Very good job 👍✨ from chinise brother 🙏 congratulations for you from France 🇫🇷
Very nice work, thank you 😊😊😊😊

I wondered how the cross bar was put in the links of these massive chains. Very interesting production operation.
The interesting part was that the cross bar did not appear to be welded into the link.
@@petert3355 The welding is not always necessary, when the assembled chain is proof load tested the force causes the sides of the link to firmly grip the 'stud'. However, I think this factory does weld the studs in for extra security, perhaps later in the video or on another video.
An anchor chain is obviously only as strong as its weakest link, so quality control is a paramount concern. No doubt, each batch of steel rod is tested for tensile strength and hardness. Consider the potential liability of a ship running aground because of a broken anchor chain. There is no room for error in the manufacturing of anchor chains. This was a very interesting video.
Each chain is tested. Material is usually not tested, since it is purchased from known supplyers according to standards. However, samples of each batch of the material are tested in steelworks before delivery to the chain factory.
1:10 into the video, they're testing the metal aren't they?
@@David-dl6zg If closed captions are turned on. I see at 1:13 they are "testing the composition of iron" It seems they don't make this chain from steel 😆
Thank you for the compliments. All the best.
Would you trust Chinese quality control?

BONJOUR !
Wow, how big the chain is!
Thanks for reminding me what the world has to compete against. Industrious, scrupulous and intelligent is a hell of a combination.
Maybe not a competitor, maybe a partner🤣🥰

Un beau travail fort pour l'industrie.
The cost of these must be amazing
Great video! Takes a lot of amps to weld the links!
my guess is few thousands : 2000 .
How do they test the strength of the weld?
@@ncooper8438 First it is checked visually, each weld is ground and visually checked, sometimes they are random checked ultrasonically and final test is calibration. Each chain is pulled to it's final lenght, that insures each link will fit in the ship's windlass, but most importantly, it is a test of strenght. Calibration is streching, that is actually plastic deformation. Nominal load of the chain is less than that, so if weld can withold that stress, it is good. After that there is a braking test. They cut a sample of three links from each batch, sometimes even from every chain and break it.
The method reminds me of a bandsaw blade welder. Touch the ends together and they melt into each other.
@@robertwest3093 Essentially it is very similar, it is a sort of resistance welding.
Magnífico
The big links were truly impressive
Thanks 🥰
Quá tuyệt
Beautful Work
Exelente material amigo felicidades, me gustó mucho
6:08 That is some sort of electrical welding I think. Maybe resistance welding? If it is I'd love to know what kind of voltage and current are running to make sparks fly like that!
Depending on the thickness of the anchor chain and metal composition, the temperature is different🤩
Flash-Butt welding, a form of resistance welding. Generally low voltage, perhaps 10v - 12v but very high current, likely in the 10's of thousands of amps.
Arte, pura arte!
Congratulation for Amazing video
Impressive!
well done, nice texts.
Wow. I had no idea. Impressive
Amazing process.
How many years does it take too make one chain
Depends a little on the size of the chain (bar diameter, link length, etc) but those machines would likely make a length of that size chain each day. A standard chain length is 15 fathoms.
When studying in marine college for my 2/E certificate, we had a visit to a chain works in Cardiff. Very impressive like this one. In the factory yard, there were large numbers of second hand chains and anchors. They were all under Customs bond for some reason. I didn't think that there would be a thriving smuggling operation with ships' anchors
Maybe made with sub standard materials and sold as meeting specs, or something of that nature.
Cool, when was this? Just glad to hear we still have some heavy industry left.☺
Customs Bond is nothing unusual. If the parts are only on site for repair and will be going straight out of the country the business can set up a Bonded area which is Customs Duty free. It saves a lot of paper work that doesn't gain anybody a tax.
@@davidquirk8097 That makes good sense, although I doubt if that factory in Cardiff is still in business now, with the downturn in British shipbuilding.
@@billynomates920 Unfortunately, I doubt if the factory is still there. It was in the 1970s when I attended Marine College and visited the factory. Since then, Cardiff's docklands have been turned into "Cardiff Bay", a complex of coffee shops, marinas and posh apartments! Most of the heavy engineering in the city has been lost- sad times
Why make a video about how somethings made if you're not going to show the whole process.
How it was done before automation would be more interesting. Where were the factories and who were the men that made the anchor chains for the battle ships and carriers of the US Navy in the early 20th century?
What is the welding process at 6.40? Can't be plain arc welding? Thanks
Flash-butt welding. A form of resistance welding, the flashing is arcing between the ends of the un-welded bar, to clean the ends and pre-heat the weld area in preparation for the weld.
Awesome vid!
FAntastic production, actually understandable machine functions. Well done.
They show how a Kenter shackle is made and then regular chain. Superb manufacturing.

Just think, all of this kind of manufacturing is going to be coming back to the USA!
THAT'S GREAT NEWS!
Maybe OSHA won't agree

Now that was satisfying
These guys made it look like a walk in the park.
Muito bom
How much does a single link of such a chain cost?
Looks like the machines are doing 99 percent of the work interesting video thanks
Maybe today, but have a think about how this was done in the late 1800's early 1900's.
For example, think about how the anchor chain on the Titanic was made.
Trabalho magnífico
