Thank you for detailed clip. I lost my brakes this week. This came handy at the right moment. I didn't know how to take Brake Fluid cover & clips off. (I used needle nose pliers to gently release the clips) & removed the grommet & top up the fluid to get it the mechanics. ( I normally I get my bro to do this with me but his car was out action too). Next time will do it ourselves. This time I paid the mechanic to replace leaking & brake line hose & do a full flush.🚗
@@FordMercGuy As Willie Nelson song goes "Back on the road again" Had a Lube and oil and air filter changed & R/H front brake caliper hose replaced. She's purring like a kitten...🤣
Cheers Rob! I will redo this brake fluid flush video one day when I get round to flushing all 4 corners as I wasn't prepared for the Falcon setup properly. But thanks for the feedback
Yes this, starting from the farthest from the master cylinder and working wheel by Wheel closer. I think in my rush to get started filming it all went out the window unfortunately
Great to see the green top LPG falcons still getting use, I bought one when fuel prices jumped and it has a similar running cost to modern cars at 1/5th the purchase price.
Thanks for youre Needed info.I was fine until the bleeder had been stripped previously, luckily i hammered a 9 mm socket after i removed the complete brake assy .;Thanks now i have brakes :)
I am confused as to why you started on the driver's side rear instead of the passenger side.everyone should know that you should always start on the furthest line away which is the back left corner in Australia.
Correct!! Need to start furtherest from master cylinder. Rushing to make this video and also inexperience meant I started where I started for this video.
I found with the car running, it was much easier to depress the brake pedal. But I wouldn't think it would filter any better, I just found the fluid would be pushed with the brake booster pressure assist rather than relying on my foot/leg to tire out quickly hahah
Thanks mate this is one of my earliest videos and it wasn't done in full and make sure that you start with the furthest away brakes from the brake booster to start with and then the next closest and then the next closest and then the last one.
@@FordMercGuy Awesome. Will do. Finally an aussie with brains. Seriously was so glad to hear your accent. The yanks hurt my ears after a bit. Good, clear instructions. This will be my go to channel and will pass it on. Keep up the good work!
Cheers mate, no dramas. Yeah I'd assume so too. The mechanics/theory would be the same. Since doing this vid on the Falcon, next time I'd probably just open all 4 Bleed screws and let all the old oil drain, flush the lines with new oil and then Bleed the system. I found doing it like this, there was alot of recircling oil in the reservoir.
Absolutely mate, it is most recommended to start at the wheel furthest from the brake booster and then next furthest then, next furthest and then you'll be left with the wheel closest to brake booster to finish flushing last
I think your supposed to pump brakes with nipple closed, then open nipple, press brake pedal down once slowly hold release then tighten nipple, repeat till clean and no bubbles
Hi mate you don't need to do the break bleeding procedure for a brake pad change. You would only do this brake flush procedure if you have air in the brake fluids lines or you are wanting to change the fluid.
Hi mate thanks. Not bad for one of my first when I didn't have a tripod or editing software yet. I actually still haven't got round to flushing the rest. What I would do next time is just open all for bleeding nipples let all the fluid drain. And then top up with fresh fluid. But I would hazard a guess that you would need about 4 litres of fresh fluid for flushing each brake line like I did in this video
@@FordMercGuy Google says "How much brake fluid does it take to bleed brakes? To properly bleed the brakes, start by acquiring about sixteen ounces of fresh brake fluid." so at $18 / liter, for the 3 liters extra you used, you could afford a certified mechanic to do the job.
Hi mate, no need to flush the brake fluid. Just swap the front pads out for new ones. Would only need to flush the system if air has got trapped in the brake fluid making the brake pedal soft or stuck to the floor.
@@FordMercGuy oh thanks for the comment mate! So I will need to take the top off the break fluid and syringe a good out though first before pressing those pistons back on each side? and then just put the fluid back in there after both sides are done?
No stress mate. Yeah that's what I do, take out some fluid before pushing pistons in so that way the fluid doesn't overflow. And keep checking as you push pistons in as the fluid level will rise. After New pads in and you've pressed brake pedal a few times just top up to Max level if needed.
I only ever did the one Caliper flush. And I should've started at rear left first. But I'd say buy a 4L and return what you don't use. They mostly come in 1L bottles so can return what you don't use
Hi mate, on fronts of the calipers no bleeder nipples that I know of too. A Haynes manual for process of bleeding brake lines for fronts could be a start point. I have a feeling the banjo bolt into the Caliper will be involved. Sorry can't be of much more help at this stage legend.
Agreed mate! I think my phone had glitched and recorded vertical even though I had phone horizontally. This was my pre video editing days. One of my first videos.
How are you going mate 👊 Agreed though mate 😜 one of my earliest videos, no editing skills yet and my first time doing this job. But hopefully it'll be of help to someone one day. This video came to because there were no other brake flood flush videos for Falcons at the time of filming.

Awesome news! Certainly a bit of an involved job doing a full break fluid flush but great to do if one of the brake lines have to come off anyway

Once again thanks for a great set of tutorials for the BA.

@@FordMercGuy I'm looking forward to your vid on ball joints or bearings. lets face it it will need to be done soon as you own a B series :)
Yeah absolutely mate, ticking time bomb the ball joints.
Always start bleeding brakes from the left rear then right rear then right front and finally the left front
Yes this, starting from the farthest from the master cylinder and working wheel by Wheel closer. I think in my rush to get started filming it all went out the window unfortunately
Yes exactly right.
Good demonstration. awesome trick with those spanners
Much appreciated mate! Yes certainly Aunty for that extra leverage

They certainly are well designed to handle the only LPG system to still be going nearly 20 years later

Cheers dude. I was mid skid saturday n my brake pedal went straight to floor n i couldnt stop. N had no hand break. So hope this was my issue
Yeah mate, flush the fluid as who knows when it was done last anyway and rule out old fluid

Strange that both Supercheap and Repco sites say that the brake bendix brake fluid doe's suit ford falcons and territory.
It's strange hey!
08 to 14 fg xr6 says on my super cheap auto does dot 4
you can get green or clear brake fluid. I did my bf ford.
Yeah I suspect from factory must have been a green tint fluid. But good point!
Is it fair to assume that this process should be repeated for all 3 other calipers (wheels)?

I like it mate, definitely best results going with manufacturer recommended process 👍
i have to replace my front pads do i need to do all this just for front pads?
Hi mate you don't need to do the break bleeding procedure for a brake pad change. You would only do this brake flush procedure if you have air in the brake fluids lines or you are wanting to change the fluid.

@@FordMercGuy 4 liters? Seems an excessive volume for those small lines; just had my Territory done at a private garage and only charged for 1 liter.

Yes certainly DIY can cost more without the right tools to make the job easier/more efficient!
I thought brake fluid was a dangerous corrosive ? Not something you should be putting your hands in? Am I wrong ?
Correct! In hind sight don't touch it with bare hands at all!! It wrecks car paint and kills weeds! Definitely don't manhandle it people! 😜
So i cant just swap out the front pads for new ones i habe to flush the whole system?

Yes mate that's what I do. Just don't let the level get below minimum or you might suck air into the system.
Hey mate it looks like the line going into the plastic bottle was sealed and pressurised which Is why your line popped off
Ah cheers mate! It was certainly my first time using that tool so I was learning as I went
A good tip is to put the ring end of the spanner onto the nipple then put your hose on after that
