- In this video, I'll show you how I set up my palette for painting watercolor landscapes. I like to keep a few different palettes with certain colors to paint specific things. These are just my recommendations. Of course, you need to find the colors you love and that work for you. I'd love to know your favorite colors for painting landscapes! Let me know in the comments below.

I love this palette and have set up two palettes; i.e., one for landscape and one for foral. I have way too many watercolor paints to try to create different palettes for other topics. So my two palettes are my go-to palettes and then i created individual paletts which have more pockets (33) creating paletts for red with name of color as well as name of brand, then yellow, green, etc. I also have a 3 ring binder with a section for the Holbein colors I bought with name for their reds, then their greens, etc., and then a section for Daniel Smith and Windsor Newton with a page for each individual color. All of the pages on all the brands and their colors are sectioned off in my binder in protective covers. Any sincular paints outside of my main brands are put in with my main go-to paints such as Daniel Smith/Winsor Newton section such as my green page, swatch the color, name of color and note the brand and put that tube color in a zip lock page such as my green bag of Daniel Smith/Newton bag which all Daniel Smith bags of their colors are in a sizable container. Doing this with all my paints and all the brands I know exactly where they are via my 3-ring binder. I was a huge job when I first started organizing my many paints but it was/is well worth it. When i buy a new tube, I go right to my big binder and swatch it, name it and name of brand in their respective place.
Very cool tutorial. I have bought this same palette but wasn't sure how to set up the colors. And adding a swatch chart to it is a good idea. Thank you.
So fun! I’m glad it was helpful. I love setting up these palettes!
I keep a pair of pliers among my art supplies for opening stubborn tubes too!
Those darn stubborn tubes! 😂 I really like Holbein and Daniel Smith paints because I never seem to have a problem with them.
Thank you for this excellent tutorial. Not my idea, but I saw on another video that the person hot-glued a pan in one of the mixing areas for another color paint that wouldn't fit in the wells.
You’re welcome! And what a great idea. Thanks for sharing!
What’s the brand name of your palette? Are they available on Amazon? I especially like the clear mixing tray, which allows you to keep your swatch chart visible and clean.
@@thestitchwitch680 Yes, it’s available on Amazon and they are pretty inexpensive! I love them. Here’s a link: amzn.to/3uy68VE

Burnt umber is easy enough to mix without it taking up a slot unless you use it alot. How do you like the grumbachers watercolors? I have some and they are decent but seem not as finely ground as say daniel smith. But they do have some cool colors like thio violet and magnesium green. I really love there mag green and perylene maroon. This color palette is similiar to mine minus but four or five colors. ❤ Lovely color selection for a landscape palette.
Good point! And yes, I like Grumbacher alright but I don’t think they’re professional watercolors so I try to stick to Winsor Newton, Holbein, and Daniel Smith mostly. Happy painting!
Thank you for putting together this video. I have the same palette but 30 different colors I use and fitting 18 of the ones I use the most for my landscapes is difficult.
Yes, it’s so difficult to narrow down the colors! And it does depend on what landscapes you like to paint. I love Southern Utah red rock so I used lots of colors to help me paint that scenery. Are you in Ireland?
@@britthartart I am located in the states but play Irish traditional reels and jigs on harmonica (aka mouth harp). I have yet to travel to Ireland but am inspired by its landscapes, people, culture, and music.
What is the pigment number of the Master's Touch Indigo please? Hobby Lobby seems to have what they have left in clearance, in tube.
Okay, I’m looking on the paint tube and there’s a number above the word Indigo that is RW322. I’m not quite sure if that’s the pigment number but just assuming that it is.
I have this pallette.
How are you enjoying your pallet so far?
I’m loving it, thanks! Can’t wait until the snow melts around here and I can take it hiking with me to paint landscapes.
@@britthartart I bought two of these . Really nice items
Please tell me if it is made of Plastik many greetings 😊😊
It is a plastic palette. But I wash it with a Magic Eraser before using it and it takes off the shiny coating so the paint doesn’t bead up. I have a link to it in the video description if you’re interested. Thanks!
