This video helped to see how one flips up the cable connector switches so that you don't push them out. Many of the other videos go too fast in removing cables. By the way, if you are replacing the dc card, you don't need to remove the heat sink, cpu, or wifi card. Thanks for the video Charlie - very helpful.
I can't thank you enough for this video. I was just given this as a hand-me-down laptop because someone dropped it and damaged the power jack. I assumed that it was all just one board and I would have to get a new jack soldered in which was going to be expensive (but still less than buying a new laptop) because I can't solder. But the charger board is separate! You have saved me so much money! I love you.
Very Nice, thanks for your time and to train the peoples, I have a problem with my Display, HPdv2000, the system is running properly but its display problem?
@JamesKves its a heat "transferrer" to simplify it. Your heatsink on the laptop and the processor are not perfectly flat, and to fix that, you put this stuff on to help fill in the gap between your heat sink and the processor, and lower the temperature. thanks for subbing!
the 1545 does have an option for internal bluetooth...you can go into your devices and printers on your start menu and and open device manager to see if it is installed, if it is not working, you can replace it after removing the keyboard, same if it is not installed
Hey, Thank you very much. My fan had stopped working due to dust balls. Your video was very helpful in helping me to extract the fan and remove that dust. Thanks
Thanks for your answer! I was told by a computer parts shop the inverter should be there somewhere under the keyboard, but I also started to think it might night have been true. A little bit depressing though as to what this means for the possibilities...
the battery is located under the ram, but above the card reader. some of the plastic on the bottom is covering it, so to replace that battery, your gonna have to take apart the whole laptop, and replace using a CR2032 .. hope this helps!
semi-high pitched fan whine is normal on this laptop. It can become extremely annoying if it's sitting on carpet or a bed. It should quiet down some if you lift the laptop up. As long as it doesn't sound like a bad bearing, or you are having overheating problems, the fan noise is probably normal.
@persianboyshayan it was the intel gma 4500mhd, it does pretty decent playback and decoding of videos. After the 4500, Intel made the 5000 series, or intel hd graphics, and after intel hd graphics, out came the intel hd graphics 2000 and 3000 in the intel core i3,15, and i7 CPU/gpu's... i just updated the info in the description.
Nice. I am having the exact same issue. Whenever the fan turns on I start hearing this grinding noise. I guess this might be due to overheating. Perhaps this noise might also because the fan is melted a bit?
@ 53:16, you can see that it is hidden below the ram (not under), but above the card reader. good luck. (yes, you have to take it apart to replace it!
i got it to work, but i cant use the caddy properly since the newegg description was incorrect as it it 7mm, i have to put it in a certain way otherwise it just doesnt feel like its secured, just falls out if shaken and it doesnt show up in bios
from many many laptop battery tear downs, Usually the case is glued/heat welded shut, so opening the battery would ultimately destroy the battery. if you are looking for a replacement batter,y amazon.com has a 9 cell battery for under 30 for this laptop
i have tried an intel ssd on my 1545 and it works flawlessly..Maybe you dont have the bios settings right.. make sure it is set in achi mode in the bios.. and make sure the ssd is sata II compatible.. Good luck..
Charlie I'm impressed with the time and the work you did was Awesome, there certainly is a lot of more parts that go into a dell computer, I own a Toshiba Satellite and yep for the first time I took mine apart to clean the fan out all I can say is WOW, but getting back to your video you took the time to take it apart carefully and documented everything nicely Well done!! but try and not call yourself stupid or dumb it takes courage and patience to do what you showed on film too and you sound like you know your stuff well so give yourself some credit and keep your thinking on the positive side ok Well Done! on another note the Cmos battery could also be finally depleted as well and the disturbance was enough to finally kill it so all you have to do is replace it with a new one. Grade A score
i was fixing to comment my appreciation for this video,& seen Lawrences comment (above)and would like to just agree with his comment , thats pretty much what i wanted to say , but he beat me to it ,thanks , there may be hope for my computer now
is that noise only on when the fan is on, everything on this laptop is on the left side. the hard drive can be whirring, the a/c power inlet can also, and so can the fan. worse case scenario is you find nothing and you have to put everything back together. it is probably a bunch of dust clogged up. good luck
I actually tested the inverter with a volt meter,it showed .05 for half a second then nothing... Odd that it worked before installing the ccfl, but at least I have some idea now.
Thanks for the reply.. the upgraded the ram..is it truly really necessary? i'd like a better frame rate not a better graphical experience. anyway I have decided I will probably ask some to install it for me, because from what i have heard a usb card doesn't increase performance
Hi, please could you take apart the battery also, or tell me what is inside the battery (which cell types). I am hoping to find a 18650 3.7v and don't want to ruin the battery for nothing Thank you . . ;)
is the screen cracked? try plugging and unplugging the lcd cable carefully. my guess is some of the cable pins got disconnected from the laptop lcd opening and closing so many times.
I think the screen or maybe the computer's 'close lid' switch is broken or defective. You mentioned your screen is a WLED screen, or while light emitting diode, the same as mine, these don't have real inverters like ccfl lcd's. The only way i can see you fixing this is to replace the LCD, if that doesn't work, you can only replace the motherboard. Obviously these are costly options and you might as well use/buy an external monitor. good luck!
Hi Charlie, I just partly disassembled my inspiron 1545, looking for the inverter, because the backlight doesnt work anymore. The inverter is not in the screen but should be somewhere in the laptop. Still I couldnt find it. Inpiron 1545 comes in three different monitors, mine is the LCD15,6-inch WXGA WLED (1.366 x 768) TFT-screen with TrueLife™. do you have any idea where I should look? Thanks!
I found this video because my sister's laptop of the same model has this whirring noise around the back, left side of it towards the fan. Is it worth digging in that far for the fan and worst case scenario, what do you think I should do about it?
sorry about that. any how, I have power coming to my computer but my screen is completely black. no white cursors or nothing. I also hooked it up to the VGA port and couldn't get a signal. any ideas on what the problem could be?
yeah i also dont have time to watch a hour video but i reeeaaalllyyy need to know what kind of cmos battery is in the 1545? are they all the same? i need to get it replaced but batteries plus has no clue what kind of battery it is until i give them more information! please help!
@CharlietoKind A week ago I was working on my computer Dell Inspiron 1545. I shut down properly but when i tried to turn on my laptop next morning. I didnt get any response. Now, regardless of what power source I try to use - battery or cord or both (i checked another charger as well) my computer will not respond at all to my attempt to boot it. That is, when I press the power button, the light that indicates power does not come on, the fan does not engage, and nothing appears on the screen. thx
When I apply thermal paste in graphics card my laptop opens and after 1 minute closes automatically. When I'm opening it again it sais: your laptop has reach 90 degrees. Do you know why is that happened?
I am curious as to how the graphics and display function. I'm under the impression that it is built into the Intel Chipset, and cannot simply be swapped with a separate graphics card. The graphics haven't much to offer at a whopping 32 MB Dedicated video memory, and I have been considering upgrades. Though, I don't have much experience with laptops as I have always used a desktop. What can I do about this? Device Manager shows; Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family
I can't remove the screws that hold the power button. They're not stripped, I could turn them for ever and they just won't come out. Anyone know what the problem is?
I have this laptop and it comes with a ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 4330 graphics card. Can I buy a better graphics card and replace it or should I just buy a new laptop all together?
This might be a silly question but is there a way to just remove the back cover (11:30) without taking out the keyboard? I see that in the video, the back cover is attached to components but is there a way to just remove the back and get to the fan easily? I just want to get to the fan and clean out the dust without removing too much out.
Oh yeah I almost forgot to say don't skimp on the heat sink as its designed to transfer heat away from the cpu and gpu in order to keep the temp stable a little extra wont hurt
I got my hands on one of these that had an issue with the monitor being dark. I replaced the ccfl and when I power up I get a brief flash from the new ccfl, then it goes dark again... The external monitor port works, but I can't carry a monitor and AC power for it when I go out. I'm hoping someone out there can tell me WTF is going on here!! I know the power inverter is good because it lit the ccfl before I installed it...
you can easily find one on amazon or ebay for around 50$ brand new.. . .Just search on amazon dell inspiron 1545 power jack, .. also.. if you know how to use a soldering gun, you can just buy the DC jack and unsolder the broken one and solder a new one on for only around 10-20 bucks. This is how most laptops DC jack gets fixed.. because the jack is built onto the motherboard, not on a separate PCB. Good luck.
At 35:00 you didn't unlock the CPU all the way, thats why you had such a hard time removing the chip. You are supposed to use the flat screwdriver and unlock the little clip by going from the 9 Oclock position to the 3 Oclock position. You only went half way and went to 6 Oclock. Lucky you didn't damage the CPU.
Ok so huge problem. I guess the computer had power to it still. I pulled the cable out for the screen and it made a spark slightly when I touched it. I installed the screen with no problem, now when I try to turn it on the screen is blank and the fan is on. I cannot tell if the computer is running. But if I listen close, I can hear it. If anyone can help me with this I would appreciate it. I assume that I blew a fuse of some sort. Any ideas? Easy fix? This is a friends computer. Inspiron 1545 ty
Brother I am sure about my charger that its working properly. I double checked with another charger as well. But it did not work. is there anything with the board?
could someone tell me the reasons why the touch pad of my dell 1545 gets got? it wasn't like this before..i've already cleaned the fan but it's still the same....help plssssss

Can someone help me and tell me what connects from the USB port to the motherboard for power to turn on the laptop. Took it all apart but can't find out to supply power to the motherboard.
please can someone help me you see ive got a dell inspiron 2500 and when i was updating my graphic card my laptop froze so i waited about 10 mins to see if it had un frozen its self but nothing so i switched the power buton off and when i switched it on again i got past were its loading windows xp and then my screen has stripes on it. please someone help oh and sorry for my spelling im not good at it help help help help help
@CharlietoKind Okay thanks i have the Intel Core i3-380M Intel HD 2000 , what i want to know , i have 2 chips in my laptop or just a single chip gpu-cpu or is the intel HD chip apart ty
@persianboyshayan the intel core series has a built in gpu in the processor, a "gpu-cpu" chip basically, and you said you have 2 chips in your laptop?, one is what I just said, and more than likely, the other is the Chipset or northbridge. You can download this really cool program that tells you all the info of your PC. Its called CPU-Z. You really should google it and check it out.
Wow i just need to change my AC DC Jack Power Board Port Plug on my Inspiron 1545 caus the plug is loose and cant charge the Battery but after watching your video it seems like i have to disassemble the whole thing just to change it. How much would it cost me to get that replace
yes, unfortunately the graphics is built into the chipset. its the intel 4500mhd graphics chip/intel gm45 chipset. This chipset actually has the most powerful graphics chip before intel started integrating the graphics into the processor. As for upgrading it, you can (but not recommended) an external graphics card/pci e device that connects via usb but its about half the cost of the laptop. good luck
This video helped to see how one flips up the cable connector switches so

the 3rd mic is part of the array, it's not really a waste of resources if it helps improve sound capture quality etc.

@TheRupanhh double check your lcd wires, and make sure the screen isnt cracked (by stepping or dropping the laptop)
Not all these 1545's have webcams and mics on the LCD...mine doesn't but it does have a mic by the mic/headphone jacks.

at 56 minutes you take out the DC/USB/VGA/Eithernet card. Do you know where I can get one of these? I need to replace the DC jack.

the best way is to blow compressed air into the fan outlet.. otherwise, you will have to take it apart to access the fan
There shouldn't be dust on the fan, the dust is on the radiator to which you have easy access.
Oh yeah I almost forgot to say don't skimp on the heat sink as its designed to transfer heat away from the cpu and gpu in order to keep the temp stable a little extra wont hurt

I have a serious question,
i have this laptop and i was wondering can i install an external graphics card to improve its Performance.
@CharlietoKind do you know if this laptop has a problem with ssds i have been trying to get my sandisk 128gb ssd to work and it wont, i also saw the same problem with agility 3 ssds on dell forums but there was no answer, i know its not doa as it works in an enclosure but thats not why i bought it
thank you, I appreciate that, what's wrong with the display, black screen?
I've only seen this in netbooks. I have never seen a cpu soldered in a regular laptop.
I think setting the time should fix some stuff i had done it on a desktop and that fix it.
from what i understand, you were working on it, and when you tried to turn it back on, it never turned back on.. There is probably a cable you forgot to plug back in on the bottom of the laptop near the battery.. your gonna have to take apart the whole laptop again.. doublecheck all your cables..good luck
not all i have an i3 which has a screw to remove it (pins like a desktop mobo) and can upgrade to i7

@JamesKves are you talking about the memory?
GREAT VID, THANKS FOR THIS!
and totally agreed with the hex-boax destruction hahaha
On the CPU you was supposed to turn that 180 degrees not 90 degrees to take it out.

You really should google it and check it out.
what gpu was that?
My screen became white, what I've to do?

AC DC Jack Power Board Port Plug on my Inspiron 1545 caus the plug is loose and cant charge the Battery but after watching your video it seems like i have to disassemble the whole thing just to change it. How much would it cost me to get that replace
scorpiontube712 if you do it yourself its free but that little power jack board can go for around 50-100 bucks on amazon/ebay
i might i need to also get a new power cord and a new thing so i can plug it in
yes, unfortunately the graphics is built into the chipset. its the intel 4500mhd graphics chip/intel gm45 chipset. This chipset actually has the most powerful graphics chip before intel started integrating the graphics into the processor. As for upgrading it, you can (but not recommended) an external graphics card/pci e device that connects via usb but its about half the cost of the laptop. good luck
why doesnt this laptop have HDMI Input
