Ren mixes all his lives so well that people often question his live versions because they sound so good. Its understandable.

I think what you forget Siah is that Ren is very a nal about sound. This is indeed very live and Ren has said in interviews that he goes painstakingly through all the sound and adjusts things until he is happy. That's why his live's tend to sound as good as a studio piece.
I suggest watching his interview with The Charismatic Voice where he goes into a lot of technical detail. Ren is practically a sound engineer. Also, if Ren says it's 'live'...trust that it's live. He's not one to be dishonest.

No backing track.. 🤣 Sia, good question this time. If I remember correctly, they had small mics inside the body of the instruments. I don't remember all the logistics, but Ren did a BTS on it on his Patreon. It'll get to YT eventually. 🥰

Regarding your musical observations, I’m right with you; I have had moments when a live recording kind of slaps me out of that comfortable recorded/tweaked place I get used to and brings me back to the reality of what I’m actually listening too - especially with a string quartet playing on the estate next to the football crew! Well worth a question or two in my mind! ❤

I do love you're "discussions" . Ren's live videos have a BTS... and as far as I can recall, all musicians and vocals are live. That doesn't mean Ren doesn't clear up the sound after the fact but he's shown how good he is at that from the The Big Push busking videos.

The Verve original is an undisputed masterpiece. But Ren’s retake makes them a love letter to working class Britain.
Singing the actual lyric at the end, unchanged was just so on point.
I think asking how it was recorded is a valid question. That said, they were wireless.
It is live 😂… the instruments had wireless mic’s.. the only reason Ren’s mic was wired is that the audio guy misunderstood and only brought a wired mic for the singing… so good question!!! 😘

There's a BTS that shows the making of the live version. It's all live and if you look closely you can see the wires connecting to boxes under their chairs. Great reaction btw, I only found you recently and have watched your whole catalogue since!

Oh no, poor Siah tha God! It seems like people are constantly teasing you, but I totally get where you're coming from, my friend. There are times when we have doubts or questions about certain aspects of music that we just can't shake off. We feel like we need answers before we can fully appreciate everything else happening in the song or video. Even though I see King Prime's point about waiting until the end to have our questions addressed, I sometimes struggle to do that too. It's hard for me to focus on the rest of the music or video if I'm still puzzling over something. So, I commend you for being so inquisitive and forward-thinking. Your curiosity is definitely a commendable trait, as it shows that you're engaged and genuinely interested in understanding the music on a deeper level. Keep asking those questions and seeking answers - it's what keeps the music alive and constantly evolving.

Definitely live. You can see how he's actually directing them with many of his hand movements. The cello is actually making the sound of the gulls at the end. Great reaction, guys! Love the double features.

There are a lot of serendipity in Ren's videos. If there is serendipity in this one for me it is when the sun breaks through surrounds him with a halo as he crosses the road and sings about a halo from heaven. But maybe he planned that as well.
Yep, from what I understand they chose the street because it lined up with the sunrise, and filmed it over several mornings, timing when he crossed the street into the sunshine with that swell in the music. (That's why some of the cutaways are more overcast, takes from different days.)

The official video is lip synced to the track, so the mother with the pram was planned, and the girls stumbling into the road and the homeless dude, fighting etc.. The second video was all live, the strings have small mics or pickups/sensors that are wireless, feeding into a recording unit along with Ren's vocals from his Shure DM7.
Wonderful reaction fellas…so glad that you made it a double feature. I love how the string quartet is set up similar to in ‘Money Game 3’. It hits really hard when he ends with, “…you’re a slave to money, then you die”. Just as Jimmy was and did, with the quartet “surrounding” him.

Chill out guys. Hug and be friends. It was a relevant question. I have seen the behind the scenes to the live version. I think the instrumentals are recorded on the spot because they were worried about it being too windy that day. But I agree that the sound is so crisp it makes me wonder.
Hugely relevant! A backing track would allow for mistakes, a live recording shows the extreme skill of the musicians and Ren conducting them while performing himself. There’s levels and then there’s LEVELS!
If you look closely, you can see that all the orchestral instruments have small fluffy microphones attached behind their bridges. And the cellists have a clear but slender cable connecting to small electronic boxes beneath their chairs. But you have to go to the a full screen version of the video and slow it right down to see them. I can't see boxes below the violinists' seats but the boxes are very small and could easily be hidden by the grass. So if they're all miming, they went to unnecessary lengths to try and fool us. If you have all the kit to play live, why not play live? I mean is anyone seriously suggesting they _couldn't_ do it live?

That question was neither irrelevant nor nonsensical! It makes a huge difference, whether this was a live or studio recording. If it is indeed live, that means the engineering was something beyond special. And it was beyond special, because it was indeed live!

2nd vid is live. They just record audio via a recording mic separately. Same thing they did with Hi Ren, Chalk Outlines, and some of their busking videos. People don't realize that the HI Ren video is a live audio recording from the video shoot. There is also a 'studio' version that sounds a little different.

As other people have mentioned, Our Boi is dedicated. He will cut individual snare hits, and do whatever he needs to make it sound great. He's a masterclass artist.
I have to defend Siah on this one. This is a reaction and Siah was reacting to what he heard and saw. That being said, "violently irrelevant" is one of the funniest things I've heard in a while and will soon be a regular part of my vocabulary, lol. 100% wanna have that debate about whether it's fully live or, the answer seemingly being yes just amplifies the significance of the second version.

It's awesome, has links to the videos but no street view.
