exactly. in my opinon, 1990-2010 was such an era. The last of the cars that really weren't designed around extra strict vehicle laws and celebrities who just buy them to flex, but they were manufactured on the cusp of the tech boom so they're the perfect mixture of a somewhat technologically advanced car yet still maintaining an analog driving experience.

    • @leftycarbon

@@institutmorningkiss The M had improvements in the suspension, engine management, and the interior was updated. Body stying changes included the deletion of the hood vents and the rear diffusor was fixed. Some people prefer the pre-M for looks, I prefer the M. In the USA, the M variant is OBD-2 so you can pull codes easily with a home scanner. I have the auto and it's a blast. I don't miss the manual in traffic, and I don't notice the auto when I am up to speed. However, if this is to be your only Ferrari then I can totally understand that you'd want the gated manual for the full Ferrari experience.

CD's were introduced in 1982! I almost bought a 456 manual RHD around 4 years ago for £30k in great condition. Beautiful car but did absolutely nothing for me while driving, just felt like any other mid 90-'s luxury car and not that quick. It is very pretty but not pretty enough to justify 11mpg on 98 octane cruising from London to Monaco, seems like a waste of fuel. Great for weekend car shows but not for frequent use. If you must get a 'cheaper' V12 Ferrari the get a 400 or 412 as they have the Columbo V12, the same engine as used in the 250GTO & 275 / 330 / 365 a much more romantic and long term proposition.

Couldn't agree more 456 and 612 are torpid to drive and really quite slow - 400/412 much more of an event and a lovely silhouette too - T Cruise and his Italian girlfriend in Rain Man peddle one and John Bonham's (Led Zep) daily driver !

They were 442ps mate. Not slow at all. Top speed of 192 mph, 0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds & 1/4 mile in 13.3 seconds at 107 mph.

Just wanted to add that the pick-up that you refer to...compared to your 360...is due to that V12 torque rather than the power available. V12s will beat atmo V8s out of corners all day long. Even a 550 will keep a 458 exiting a corner...for a while!

Jay men on cars did a maintenance cost over ownership on one of those compared to a v8 430 and actually the 430 cost more.

Many do not like the look. I agree with Sam. I think it is understated elegance.
We learned from Hoovie's experience that they actually are one of the more reliable Ferraris and relatively easy to maintain. A great deal on a car that will likely appreciate.

I've always loved the 456. Many slated the styling as 'bland' but I think it looks great, the interior too. I nearly bought a red manual 456 for £22k (£22k!) in 2014 but went for a V8 Vantage instead (for £10k more) due to potential running costs. I should've bought the 456 and a cheap runabout!
BRG is perfect on this. Ideally with a nice rich tan interior, yum.
Yes we had CDs in 1994, jeez Sam! Oh and btw that posh voice you put on... same as your normal voice! ; )

If 350 bhp is correct, in 1994 it wasn't the most powerful Ferrari ever made. 70's Ferrari V12s were making 360+
