Thank you so much for this video. This is EXACTLY what I needed to evaluate what reusables can work and the filter paper filter aspect on this machine. I am NOT a coffee person, but I'm setting up a very elderly person for the easiest thing to use without spending the money on actual K-cups and making CLEANUP the easiest it can be (side note to video poster: dump the grounds into the cup while OVER the grounds container). I notice at 2:02 and 7:00 you're not able to EASILY close the machine! This is the trouble I'm having. It's because the needle and the k Cup hole don't line up very well. Looks to me like Keurig purposely offset the needle further out so the knock-off cups won't work.

@@JustADad I had a few of the older model keurig and gave them all away but this one was a gift from my sister who said I would be pleased with this one & I am maybe because she gave it with love or she understood why I didn’t keep the other’s around major reason the size of the first models.I like this model size it’s not bulky at all fits on corner shelf I also like the water reservoir hold a good amount of water it’s quick quiet and what put it over the top what I learned in this video today the fact that I can pop out that needle basket.I have no idea if the older models had this feature but I love it. Maybe I'm new with the reusable cups, because half the time it works decent, the other half the time its mainly water coming out and it sprays everywhere instead of having a single dark stream

I bought some general reusable cups from big lots which aren't working, the needle hits the hole slightly so im going to try and make the hole slightly bigger and pray for the best
I just purchased the keurig express and cannot get my reusable filter to fit, do you have to take out the insert out of the machine? The filter looks just like the purple ones it just has a tab on the side. Some please help this momma needs her coffee 😭
not all purple pods are made the same, The perfect pods seem to work the best, You might have to push the lid down with your hand just a little then move the lever down, but don't force it or it will break. You can always try the Keurig Reusable filter but you will have to take the lower needle basket out to use it.
yeah some purple ones dont fit really good. is it the perfect pod. if so you might have to help the lid close just a very little push on the top of the lid while you are closing the handle, don't use the handle to force it because it could break it very easy.
the set of reusable ones i got did not work...but they werent one of these brands so i guess i just need to get one of these. Hell ill probably just play it safe and get the kuerig branded one
I just bought mine with a Black Friday price at $35. I got the pistachio colored one. I love it so far. Brews much better/hotter than those duo type machines. I’ve been using the Ninja coffee machine that is a duo single serve and multi serve. Not a huge fan.

I have some other aftermarket filter and apparently there’s a height discrepancy because if I don’t slide that rubber seal on the needle down( my wife uses k-cups), I end up with grinds in my coffee. Our previous Kearny never had this issue. Pretty frustrating if I haven’t had coffee to remember this.
Hmm...I've been using reusable k-cups for years & never have had any setament in them. I tried the My K-cup & I hated it. I'll just stick with the regular re-usable K-Cups. And it does taste good! also, I just wait until they've cooled off before washing them. You can even rinse them out & put them in the dishwasher if you want too...I don't like the paper filters, they are messy to get out. The easiest way to get the coffee out of the pod after they cool is to open it up & turn the upside down & tap on the bottom of it with a spoon. & then rinse it out & put it into the dishwasher if you want. I have had a Keurig ever since they first came out.
I got some coffee filled cups and I'm finding the reusable cups are better. The pre-filkled cups, clear water comes out first. Then after a second or two, coffee starts coming out. I tested by removing the grounds and putting it in the reusable, which kinda defeats part of the purpose.
The only thing I've noticed with this machine the needle gets plugged very easily take a safety pin or a paperclip push it up in the needle to clean it out coffee grounds will get in the needle and cause the maker to stall and not make coffee , remember do nothing use distilled water in the Keurig bottled water tap water is fine just not distilled water due to the lack of minerals
Anyone having an issue with whichever reuseable k cup top popping up while brewing because the grind is too fine? The coffee maker starts with a single stream, but then the stream is all over the place messy🤷

Using the Perfect Pod reusable K-Cup, we find that the handle doesn't want to close unless we force it. We've checked to make sure the lid on the K-Cup is on tight. Are we doing something wrong?

My son gave me one of these machines for Father's Day 2022. I went to make a cup of my grind coffee with the adaptor he included, but I could not get it to fit. Why? I was expecting it to snap in like the K-cup adaptor I removed. I was pulling my hair out until I watched your video and understood the grounds adaptor does not snap in but sits on top with the arrow facing the back. You saved my life on that one. I come from using a Walmart machine that sells for $20.00 and is an amazing machine. You have to add water to it every time but it is super simple to switch from grounds to K-pods on the machine. I will always have a love for that little machine. It makes equally as good coffee as this Keurig K Express Essentials but the brewing time with the Keurig and the water reservoir beats the Walmart machine hands down. When I first got my $20.00 machine I bought some reusable K-cups. I only bought 4 and I threw them away when I found out I would have to force the lid on that machine which would either break or put a hole in the reusable K-cup. So I was afraid to buy some for my new machine. You saved the day in that respect also and I have refillable's coming from Amazon as we speak. Iparts plus ones. Great Question. I get this one alot. At first I thought it did not matter. the needles can push down the red silicone thing and it works ok. I have had several viewers tell me they used to leave in install and then one time the machine backed up and it did not brew the coffee correct. I know say to make sure the red thingee is removed when you are using it with a multi brew 5 needle Keurig. That was my first thought and that is how I have always used it. But some viewers says to leave it installed. It will work sometimes but sometimes it might not. I have not had any problems with it removed. Thanks for watching!!! So what is the best reuseable k-cup for this coffe maker? My husband bought me this exact model for this xmas. And can you use a reusable k cup for hot cocoa? Dunno why I ask but I asked lol. Also I just want your opion since I know there are tons of different reusable k-cup and want to br ae to get multiple uses out of it
For me, my problem is the coffee comes out too weak. I use 2 tablespoons. I use medium grind coffee (Folgers, Starbucks Pike Place.. I've even dumped out a regular K-Cup into the reusable K-Cup). I've even tried grinding the coffee a little bit more fine. The coffee just comes out weak. If I use a regular K-Cup, the coffee comes out WONDERFUL. I use the 10 ounce setting, even. Tastes great! The reusable? No. Weak, not very dark brown water.

Does the one made by Keurig calle My K cup that is black with a gray lid. does it work for you. I tried it and you can add about 2.5 tablespoons of coffee grounds to it.

Good question! I did notice sometimes the lid does not want to close very easy and you have to just gently push the lid down then move the handle to the close position. what is your favorite K cup?
Thanks the original instructions did not include this information. I couldn’t figure out how to fit the universal reusable filter. I always use the Keurig reusable filter with larger Keurig machine. It does save money and I can buy the 12 oz. ground bag that are on sale .
I also run into this from time to time. Thanks! I use a paper filter with the Keurig universal. It works fine and keeps the sentiment out. Do you think it's necessary to buy thre long handle filter holder and to filter to filter ther water? The Express didn't come with one.
Great Question and I get this alot. Does your water smell or taste bad then yes. does your water smell like chlorine? then yes. They say coffee is 99% water so you should try and get the best water you can get and this will help. is it a must, no. Can I tell if I have one installed? not really. But I have come to believe that it can not hurt, it does cost $14 bucks up front and the to change the carbon filter every 2 months is only 80 cents for each filter. So I use one now. Hope this helps!!!

Thank you so much for all of your comparison videos. It helped me to decide to pull the trigger on the Keurig K-Express that is on sale at walmart right now for just 35.00 for their early black friday deal, purchased on 11.13.23. Because my Mr. Coffee maker went belly up and I use my own coffee, I also purchased the My Kcup to use. It was only 10.98. I think I like the idea of using the other filters though and leaving the orignial holder in the keurig, so I may get one at some point. Since I use Clean Coffee from Natural Force, I found that using 2 teaspoons of coffee grounds with 10 oz of water made a really strong cup of coffee. I likely will play around with the amount of coffee grounds to see what I like the best. I sure do like the quickness of this machine although I know that a lot of coffee drinkers are looking for the "bloom" that happens when you brew coffee. I do find the taste different than what my drip coffee maker did, but I think I will adjust just fine. Side note: I did read in the instructions that if you are above 5,000 feet elevation that there is a sequence of buttons you need tp push to use at that altitude. I assume it would be a one time setting? I took note because I do vacation in a place where the elevation is just over 5,000 feet and has affected my cook & bake times, including my Instant Pot coming to pressure. I nearly got the Keurig K-Slim that is on special right now from Best Buy for 69.99 (reg.129.99). I liked it's profile width of 5" and that it brews a 12oz cup of coffee which is what I normally fill my mug with. It also holds 10 oz more water. There is a gal on youtube that was complaining about her slim and that she just didn't like the flavor of her coffee so she was going to return hers. I think she was happy with a Keurig Supreme? that she had previously. Another reviewer mentioned that the single serve Keurigs that have 5 holes make for a better flavor of coffee because of the contact with more water. Because I'm new to Keurig and single serving size, I decided to dip my toe in with the least expensive option first. I hope my notes about my findings will help someone that has the same questions. My goodness ...this is the most informative video... Great!!. My daughter got me the Keurig Express for Christmas. Publix sells Melitta javajig reusable k-cups..... I've tried it three different times with different amounts of coffee. it's Brewing water ...would you know if that's definitely not compatible with the Keurig Express machine .... you put the filter over the prongs and then you slide the cup over and then you put the coffee and snap the lid .....it seems to fit in the basket.... but I'm getting water . The coffee is still dry in the basket...I guess I have to get one that you're talking about...thanks for this video .....

Thank you. I appreciate guys who can figure out things. I'm not one of those types. I bought the same machine you have, and also the Keurig branded reusable pod. The reusable pod seemed complicated to me, and I had no idea how it works. I also couldn't get the K pod that's already in the machine... out. I examined it for 10 minutes tryna turn it, or unlatch it, or whatever, and just couldn't figure it out. Your video showed me that I have to push up from the bottom. So that was easy. I didn't want to break it so I was being very careful with my examination.
I tried the reusable coffee cups in my local Walmart on this machine(have had it for 3 years and just now started realizing how much money I was spending on kcups) idk if I’m doing something wrong but everytime I use it, it seems like it overflows or backflows back over the top of the pod and I end up with grounds floating all in my coffee. The brand is like cafe something. But anyways thank you for showing the best ones for this machine! I can enjoy my little coffee maker again❤
I have this same brewer and i cant seem to close the lid when i put my reusable filter. Ive tried a million ways and it just wont close...Im afraid it might break. Any help? Thanks!!
Mine too sometimes won't close. I found that if I push down on the part that lifts up, Push down on the big K symbol as I am moving the handle down it closes real nice. This is not ideal but Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
I'm afraid to break mine, too. I don't want to manually force it each time. Not sure why it's not closing. I took out the original basket and did just the reusable instead, but it came out so weak, and it sprayed everywhere. I think it's supposed to fit above the basket/needle, but it doesn't
I have found all of the reusable K cup brew a much weaker thin cup of coffee due to the lack of pressure that the filter creates inside of a standard single use K-cup.

I have this exact machine. Mine doesn’t brew this quietly, is that normal? It’s quieter than my older Keurig that stopped working, the reason I bought this one, but it’s definitely not quiet as this one you used.
Thanks for the video! I sincerely thought I was going to break my machine at first. I had no trouble with the normal kcups but the reusable ones were not fitting right. I had to pop the purple ring off of the top of the iparts model and it started working pretty well.

Thank you, sir! I went from a Keurig 2.0 to the express and used your video to not only learn how to remove the inner basket but also was blessed to learn that I could still use my reusable K pod from my other machine by putting it in without the lower needle basket! It works! So happy!
I bought some general reusable cups from big lots which aren't working, the needle hits the hole slightly so im going to try and make the hole slightly bigger and pray for the best

I just purchased the keurig express and cannot get my reusable filter to fit, do you have to take out the insert out of the machine? The filter looks just like the purple ones it just has a tab on the side. Some please help this momma needs her coffee 😭
not all purple pods are made the same, The perfect pods seem to work the best, You might have to push the lid down with your hand just a little then move the lever down, but don't force it or it will break. You can always try the Keurig Reusable filter but you will have to take the lower needle basket out to use it.

yeah some purple ones dont fit really good. is it the perfect pod. if so you might have to help the lid close just a very little push on the top of the lid while you are closing the handle, don't use the handle to force it because it could break it very easy.
the set of reusable ones i got did not work...but they werent one of these brands so i guess i just need to get one of these. Hell ill probably just play it safe and get the kuerig branded one

I just bought mine with a Black Friday price at $35. I got the pistachio colored one. I love it so far. Brews much better/hotter than those duo type machines. I’ve been using the Ninja coffee machine that is a duo single serve and multi serve. Not a huge fan.

Are those pods specific to the Express? Because I just replaced my old Keurig with the Express and my old reusable pods don’t fit.
I have some other aftermarket filter and apparently there’s a height discrepancy because if I don’t slide that rubber seal on the needle down( my wife uses k-cups), I end up with grinds in my coffee. Our previous Kearny never had this issue. Pretty frustrating if I haven’t had coffee to remember this.
Hmm...I've been using reusable k-cups for years & never have had any setament in them. I tried the My K-cup & I hated it. I'll just stick with the regular re-usable K-Cups. And it does taste good! also, I just wait until they've cooled off before washing them. You can even rinse them out & put them in the dishwasher if you want too...I don't like the paper filters, they are messy to get out. The easiest way to get the coffee out of the pod after they cool is to open it up & turn the upside down & tap on the bottom of it with a spoon. & then rinse it out & put it into the dishwasher if you want. I have had a Keurig ever since they first came out.
I got some coffee filled cups and I'm finding the reusable cups are better. The pre-filkled cups, clear water comes out first. Then after a second or two, coffee starts coming out.
I tested by removing the grounds and putting it in the reusable, which kinda defeats part of the purpose.
The only thing I've noticed with this machine the needle gets plugged very easily take a safety pin or a paperclip push it up in the needle to clean it out coffee grounds will get in the needle and cause the maker to stall and not make coffee , remember do nothing use distilled water in the Keurig bottled water tap water is fine just not distilled water due to the lack of minerals

I'm having an issue where, when using the reusable k cups, I push the 10oz button but it's only brewing maybe 6oz at most. Is this a common issue?

The reusable k cups that are pink or black that look like k cups can be a little tricky to use. The machine likes some more than others. Perfect pod seem to work the best but even with them sometimes you have to push the brew lid down just a little while you are pulling the handle down. don't just use the handle or it could break. Using the Perfect Pod reusable K-Cup, we find that the handle doesn't want to close unless we force it. We've checked to make sure the lid on the K-Cup is on tight. Are we doing something wrong?

My son gave me one of these machines for Father's Day 2022. I went to make a cup of my grind coffee with the adaptor he included, but I could not get it to fit. Why? I was expecting it to snap in like the K-cup adaptor I removed. I was pulling my hair out until I watched your video and understood the grounds adaptor does not snap in but sits on top with the arrow facing the back. You saved my life on that one. I come from using a Walmart machine that sells for $20.00 and is an amazing machine. You have to add water to it every time but it is super simple to switch from grounds to K-pods on the machine. I will always have a love for that little machine. It makes equally as good coffee as this Keurig K Express Essentials but the brewing time with the Keurig and the water reservoir beats the Walmart machine hands down. When I first got my $20.00 machine I bought some reusable K-cups. I only bought 4 and I threw them away when I found out I would have to force the lid on that machine which would either break or put a hole in the reusable K-cup. So I was afraid to buy some for my new machine. You saved the day in that respect also and I have refillable's coming from Amazon as we speak. Iparts plus ones. Great Question. I get this one alot. At first I thought it did not matter. the needles can push down the red silicone thing and it works ok. I have had several viewers tell me they used to leave in install and then one time the machine backed up and it did not brew the coffee correct. I know say to make sure the red thingee is removed when you are using it with a multi brew 5 needle Keurig. That was my first thought and that is how I have always used it. But some viewers says to leave it installed. It will work sometimes but sometimes it might not. I have not had any problems with it removed. Thanks for watching!!! So what is the best reuseable k-cup for this coffe maker? My husband bought me this exact model for this xmas. And can you use a reusable k cup for hot cocoa? Dunno why I ask but I asked lol.

So do 2.0 k cups work in the keurig express?
For me, my problem is the coffee comes out too weak.
I use 2 tablespoons. I use medium grind coffee (Folgers, Starbucks Pike Place.. I've even dumped out a regular K-Cup into the reusable K-Cup). I've even tried grinding the coffee a little bit more fine.
The coffee just comes out weak.
If I use a regular K-Cup, the coffee comes out WONDERFUL. I use the 10 ounce setting, even. Tastes great!
The reusable? No. Weak, not very dark brown water.

Does the one made by Keurig calle My K cup that is black with a gray lid. does it work for you. I tried it and you can add about 2.5 tablespoons of coffee grounds to it.

Thanks the original instructions did not include this information. I couldn’t figure out how to fit the universal reusable filter. I always use the Keurig reusable filter with larger Keurig machine. It does save money and I can buy the 12 oz. ground bag that are on sale .

I’m trying to use one of the purple ones and it fits in the basket but the lid won’t close. Can’t get it to work like yours.
I also run into this from time to time. The reusable k cup are not all made the same, some work and some don't, I did find I had to move the k cup around a bit and kind of push the top needle lid down then pull the handle down. if you just pull the handle down it will break the hinge. only a slight bit of pressure on the top needle lid will help, if that is not it I would try a different brand of K cup.

I think it's the top needle that's not going into the pod hole it's not aligning so be careful you can break the needle
Thanks! I use a paper filter with the Keurig universal. It works fine and keeps the sentiment out. Do you think it's necessary to buy thre long handle filter holder and to filter to filter ther water? The Express didn't come with one.
Great Question and I get this alot. Does your water smell or taste bad then yes. does your water smell like chlorine? then yes. They say coffee is 99% water so you should try and get the best water you can get and this will help. is it a must, no. Can I tell if I have one installed? not really. But I have come to believe that it can not hurt, it does cost $14 bucks up front and the to change the carbon filter every 2 months is only 80 cents for each filter. So I use one now. Hope this helps!!!

It helped me to decide to pull the trigger on the Keurig K-Express that is on sale at walmart right now for just 35.00 for their early black friday deal, purchased on 11.13.23. Because my Mr. Coffee maker went belly up and I use my own coffee, I also purchased the My Kcup to use. It was only 10.98. I think I like the idea of using the other filters though and leaving the orignial holder in the keurig, so I may get one at some point. Since I use Clean Coffee from Natural Force, I found that using 2 teaspoons of coffee grounds with 10 oz of water made a really strong cup of coffee. I likely will play around with the amount of coffee grounds to see what I like the best. I sure do like the quickness of this machine although I know that a lot of coffee drinkers are looking for the "bloom" that happens when you brew coffee. I do find the taste different than what my drip coffee maker did, but I think I will adjust just fine. Side note: I did read in the instructions that if you are above 5,000 feet elevation that there is a sequence of buttons you need tp push to use at that altitude. I assume it would be a one time setting? I took note because I do vacation in a place where the elevation is just over 5,000 feet and has affected my cook & bake times, including my Instant Pot coming to pressure. I nearly got the Keurig K-Slim that is on special right now from Best Buy for 69.99 (reg.129.99). I liked it's profile width of 5" and that it brews a 12oz cup of coffee which is what I normally fill my mug with. It also holds 10 oz more water. There is a gal on youtube that was complaining about her slim and that she just didn't like the flavor of her coffee so she was going to return hers. I think she was happy with a Keurig Supreme? that she had previously. Another reviewer mentioned that the single serve Keurigs that have 5 holes make for a better flavor of coffee because of the contact with more water. Because I'm new to Keurig and single serving size, I decided to dip my toe in with the least expensive option first. I hope my notes about my findings will help someone that has the same questions. I don't see any steam coming from the coffee. Seems it will not extract the full flavor from the beans.
The grind of the coffee and how hold the coffee can affect that.

My goodness ...this is the most informative video... Great!!. My daughter got me the Keurig Express for Christmas. Publix sells Melitta javajig reusable k-cups..... I've tried it three different times with different amounts of coffee. it's Brewing water ...would you know if that's definitely not compatible with the Keurig Express machine .... you put the filter over the prongs and then you slide the cup over and then you put the coffee and snap the lid .....it seems to fit in the basket.... but I'm getting water . The coffee is still dry in the basket...I guess I have to get one that you're talking about...thanks for this video .....

The reusable pod seemed complicated to me, and I had no idea how it works. I also couldn't get the K pod that's already in the machine... out. I examined it for 10 minutes tryna turn it, or unlatch it, or whatever, and just couldn't figure it out. Your video showed me that I have to push up from the bottom. So that was easy. I didn't want to break it so I was being very careful with my examination.

I tried the reusable coffee cups in my local Walmart on this machine(have had it for 3 years and just now started realizing how much money I was spending on kcups) idk if I’m doing something wrong but everytime I use it, it seems like it overflows or backflows back over the top of the pod and I end up with grounds floating all in my coffee. The brand is like cafe something. But anyways thank you for showing the best ones for this machine! I can enjoy my little coffee maker again❤
I have this same brewer and i cant seem to close the lid when i put my reusable filter. Ive tried a million ways and it just wont close...Im afraid it might break. Any help? Thanks!!
Mine too sometimes won't close. I found that if I push down on the part that lifts up, Push down on the big K symbol as I am moving the handle down it closes real nice. This is not ideal but Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
I'm afraid to break mine, too. I don't want to manually force it each time. Not sure why it's not closing. I took out the original basket and did just the reusable instead, but it came out so weak, and it sprayed everywhere. I think it's supposed to fit above the basket/needle, but it doesn't
My reusable k cup is overflowing. It is the same purple one as yours. There's currently grounds and coffee everywhere.
When you put the purple reusable k cup in I noticed you couldn't close the top of the keurig?
sometimes you have to push down on the lid a little then pull then handle down .
I have found all of the reusable K cup brew a much weaker thin cup of coffee due to the lack of pressure that the filter creates inside of a standard single use K-cup.

Thanks for the video! I sincerely thought I was going to break my machine at first. I had no trouble with the normal kcups but the reusable ones were not fitting right. I had to pop the purple ring off of the top of the iparts model and it started working pretty well.
