    Great turorial with the MK14 , thanks again for the top tip with the full braking with the Mk 9 right after touch down , every time a winner no lost ailerons since then .

      Yeah I felt I needed to include that because I've seen SO many people complain about ground looping the Spitfires on landing when I never do it. It's definitely a "gaming" technique and not something I would teach students in RL, so it's important to add that disclaimer as well

      Yeah it's definitely powerful. After you fly the Merlins for so long you get used to those engine settings, but the Griffon settings in comparison are reduced so I always have to check myself for keeping the power up too high. It climbs like a beast too!

    You're right about the brakes, I really wish they'd fix that. (And add in the option to have the brake lever separate from the toe brakes.)

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  3 года назад

      The brake lever can be assigned separately to the brakes with the "wheel brake" command I believe

    • @InVacuo
      @InVacuo 3 года назад

      @@RequiemsACTL Unless they've changed it recently it will still also activate the toe brakes. I know it's not really a big deal but I'd love to be able to use the lever on my stick for the front wheel brake in the 262.

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  3 года назад

      Oh ok I thought there was a seperate control for that nose wheel brake too. So you could use toe brakes individually and that nose wheel separate? But if you have the "wheel brakes" generic one assigned it would do all 3 brakes at once

    • @InVacuo
      @InVacuo 3 года назад

      @@RequiemsACTL There are separate controls for the front wheel brake and the toe brakes but not for single-lever, rudder controlled, differential wheel brakes. The wheel brakes control applies brakes universally, fine if you only have one brake control on your setup but you don't have control of the individual brakes. As I say it's super nit-picky but I like the realism of using the brakes properly. Currently, when landing the 262 I flip a toggle switch (ctrl modifier) which essentially changes my stick brake lever from "wheel brakes" to "front wheel brake" . But it's like having ctrl held down so some other functions don't work. If that control would only apply brakes to planes that have the single, stick mounted brake lever and not the toe brakes you could double bind it with the front wheel brake.

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  2 года назад +1

      The Spitfire is the one exception I make when it comes to techniques that I would never recommend in real life but do for a simulator. To make taxiing and landing it's easier to simply hold the brakes fully when making turns or after touchdown. If your brake lever is on an axis then you'll have better control of your brakes, but if it's on a button you would be at full braking all the time.
      Honestly, the braking in the sim is very weak (incorrectly in my opinion) for the majority of airplanes so it's kind of a workaround using an unrealistic technique. It's not impossible otherwise but the way some airplanes taxi just doesn't feel right.

  • @Taipan303

    Thanks for this. I noted you have the supercharger switching at 14,500, but for some reason Han's specs state "Stages should be manually switched at 11000ft altitude" on the IL-2 forum technical specs page. I'm assuming yours comes from the real manual, any idea why IL-2 would use a different alt? Due to limitations of the sim they need to switch early?

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  3 года назад

      It's possible that I wrote 14,500ft based off the original technical specifications that got changed at some point. My manual for the Mk XIV says when the supercharger switch is at AUTO, it automatically switches at 13,000ft. That's optimal height if combat power is used, but if you're at normal climb power (2600rpm +9lb boost) then you can wait to change gears until the low gear boost has fallen to +5lb

    Is it worth getting IL2 when you have DCS (and the spitfire module ? )

    • @RequiemsACTL
      @RequiemsACTL  3 года назад +3

      It is. Honestly the FM differences are not that great. I've worked with someone and we've compared them in flight testing. It's basically the same. The big difference for me between Il-2 and DCS can be summed up by "If you want to fly a WWII airplane buy DCS (more detail systems management) and if you want to fly in WWII buy Il-2 (better career mode and MP environment)
