Nice job without the use of a lathe!, If i can give you a quick tip when sanding like you have, many beginner turners make the same mistake..... before moving to the next grit i.e. 80-120 etc.... sand in the direction of the grain by hand, it stops the concentric lines from happening around the piece. just sand until the lines disappear & move on to the next grit under power, then hand sand at that grit etc etc.
