Last time I checked this was a rock musical. This song is not supposed to be "pretty" her rougher vocals fit this song perfectly. She is roughing it up on purpose. Its call ACTING! And she's obviously a phenomenal actress.
I've watched pretty much all the Mimis on youtube, and along with Daphne, i think that Jamie portrays her the best. She is the ONLY one I have seen who actually looks coked out the entire song-it's fantastic!!! Singers like Simone, Tamayra, Saycon etc have fantastic voices, but they are too 'strong' and 'polished'. Jamie's got that rough edge to her voice, and the entire time she's singing she looks like she has endless energy AND that she might pass out. She really captures the spirit of Mimi-bravo!!
I honestly could not agree more. Other performers are indeed good singers, but don't actually have that "wild" vibe, which Mimi absolutely requires. Jaime IS Mimi.
I believe there's so much negativity towards this Mimi because people unlike me prefer "innocent little sex kitten" Mimis, rather than a Mimi portrayed as a badass who is capable of being independent, then finds herself slowly needing someone other than herself. Remember, Mimi is a drug addict. She should have some edge. Which is why Jaime is my favorite.

Her actions and dancing reminds me of EXACTLY how Mimi should act. The voice, I picture something more along the lines of Jamie Lee Krichner meshed with Tamyra Gray, with a little of Rosario's softer tone thrown in. Drugs have that effect on your voice, even if you don't inhale them. They make it scratchier and quieter, like Rosario. The looks, however, I've got to give to Rosario. I'm not sure why, but she just... looks like Mimi.
I love Jaime Lee as Mimi, because she just seems so badass, and carefree, like she actually is Mimi. She really expresses what I think the character is like through her performance, and I really look up to her as a performer.
Jaimie is one of my (if not) absolute favorite Mimis out there!!!!!!!! She just plays the truth of the role which I think is hard for some actors/ actresses. I really wish people gave her more credit for this role. She’s so perfect!!!❤️

no rosario isn't bad -- far from it. but one has to acknowledge that she has somewhat of advantage -- she doesn't actually have to sing and dance at the same time, since it was recorded before hand -- which btw, also means it's not live. filming a musical is diff from performing it on stage. rosario may very well be able to do it on stage, but we won't know unless she actually does, and then at that point would be a much fairer comparison.

Whoever filmed this did a great job. The camera was steady throughout the whole song, and it zoomed in and out at just the right times. the performance was excellent! Jaime plays a unique Mimi!

I do have to give this girl some credit. She has a very nice voice for Mimi Marquez and she works the bars almost as well as Daphne herself. The only thing that I think no other Mimi will ever do is what Daphne can. During this song Daphne's voice is like a desperate plea. Most other Mimi's have a bit to much fun with it towards the ending where as Daphne's voice begs and pleads with Roger to take her out.

i know this is a totally stupid comment and i know why and how this happens but i have been watching all these different versions of out tonight on broadway because i have nothing better to do and the fact that they all have the exact same choreography and everything is REALLY cool
She really stayed close to Daphne's performance, rasp and all, which I think is pretty cool because I love Daphne. :) She's awesome and I'm surprised because I remember seeing a video of her and not liking her at all. And now I'm like in love. :D Yay Jaime!
ok no matter who you are when you sing on a cd your voice will change in clean up ok its a fact but that doesnt mean shes a bad singer ok she sang live she didnt lip sync you know that right.
Maya Days did a nice job too. I'm biased though...Daphne is still my fave but it's true that they all put their hearts into this role. I saw RENT way too many times! haha

She swung really hard cause she lifted her foot into the air- all the others I've seen keep their free leg bent to prevent that. But more power to her- I would have fallen right off that thing!
