A picture book about charts for grownups? Yes, please! Great pile of possibilities and recommendations.

So glad I discovered you channel - many of these books are my cup of tea! I read Alberto Cairo’s The Functional Art a few years ago and loved it, can’t wait to read How Charts Lie.

_Catch and Kill_ has definitely been on my radar, but I hadn't heard of _She Said_ yet. I think it would be interesting to read both! Thanks for the awesome nonfic recommendations 😊📖💕

UUUHHH Microbes!!!! I, someone doing a PhD on microbes, have just realized that I have never read a non-academic-type microbe book. I contain multitudes sounds very interesting. Now looking forward to pick it up. =D

I have Beyond Heaving Bosoms on my Kindle and I bought it back when I first started reading romance because I was like "I don't know how to talk about this????" I still haven't read it, though, lol. But this is a good reminder that I have that waiting for me.
I know we talked about The Collected Schizophrenias already, but you describe the nature of it so well-- both a bit disjointed but also ultimately clear and well written. The feeling I felt of just being overwhelmed by Wang's story will stay with me as much as any of the information my brain absorbed from reading.
I'm reading Know My Name right now and I'm having to do it in pieces. It is so well written and I just find myself getting so emotional while reading. Also, though, I do most of my reading before bed and I always feel like not reading this right before I try to rest? It's definitely one I'm going to have to pick up during some daylight Saturday hours, tbh.
Thanks for sharing all of these!

Great choices! Been seeing a lot of Say Nothing on other channels.

I think I need to do NF November because I have never watched a TBR with this percentage of "FUCK YEAH I WANNA READ THAT????" I love this. I can't wait for your follow-up videos after you read all the things.
also, I am pretty sure I Like To Watch came up multiple times over the weekend in part because of how I can't stop talking about it lol. I didn't realize just how much I loved it until after I finished and found myself being like "well, you see, in Emily Nussbaum's book..." every single day

Do it!! I need more nonfiction to read too, so I'm shamelessly looking to what everyone reads.
Also, someone else brought up I Like to Watch too! So it's going around, and I'm feeling especially impatient now about reading it.

@@okidokiboki ok good thank you, I'm glad it's not just me aggressively and wild eyed grabbing people by the shoulders demanding that they read it

the collected schizophrenias is one of my fave reads of the year. i didn't know anything about know my name before this video, but now i'm considering picking it up. but you've also made all of these other books sound so interesting i don't know what i'm gonna do with myself. thank you for this rec video, i definitely needed it!

I found a lot of similarities between The Collected Schizophrenias and Know My Name, so I think you'd enjoy it!

I wish I could read so many things for Nonfiction November but just like you I dread tbr's so I'm just gonna create a pile of possibilities and see how far it goes.

How Charts Lie!!! I follow Alberto Cairo on Twitter and this is such a great reminder to go put a hold on that at the library

I'm on hold for I Like To Watch on audio! I tried Say Nothing a while ago and couldn't get right into it but I want to go back to it eventually. She Said was so good - I was so mad reading it. And I didn't know you read Know My Name... I so agree about her being a good writer. I watched an interview where she said she wants to be a children's writer 😭

I cut out like 20 minutes of me rambling about how much I want Chanel Miller to keep writing because I just love her way of writing so much, so I really hope she fulfills all her children's writing dreams both for her and my own selfish need to read more of her writing.

I want to read so many things for Nonfiction November! I just looked at Know My Name and the shortest library hold for it is 17 weeks. So while I won't be getting to that, I will hopefully be getting to a lot of other good stuff. My life is still too hectic to make any videos about anything, but hopefully I can live vicariously through BookTube and wrap up what I do get to when I get my life back.

    SAME!
I have a freaking stack of nonfiction books AND there have been memoirs coming out left and right that I need to get my hands on.
& I’m very much like you..saying tbr then causes me anxiety and typically five minutes or less afterwards I don’t want to Read ANYTHING I just said I wanted to read😂

Seriously, I think it's part of why I like borrowing books from the library so much because at least I don't have reminders of all my non-reading constantly around me.

  • @RememberedReads

I've taken I Contain Multitudes out of the library three times now, and each time it's expired unread. Maybe next month will be the month I finally finish it!
Beyond Heaving Bosoms sounds both interesting and fun. I'll have to look for that one. 👍

    • @okidokiboki
      @okidokiboki  5 лет назад

I feel like there are some books where the library is going to start putting a warning sign that's like "You've already checked this out 5 times, are you sure you're going to read it this time?" That'll be the best way to shame me into actually finishing those books.
