- In this video we will share a comparison between the Mooer GE 250 and the Mooer GE 300, trying to answer the question if the GE 300 is worth the extra money against the GE 250. Thanks man for the comparison. I bought my GE250 about 2 weeks ago and been experimenting and tweaking a lot because I really could not choose between them and some other amp modelers...

I agree. The GE300 sounded strangely muffled on distorted tones to me.

How interesting, if you watch the settings closely. Two U87s were used for mics in the cab section, which is not an apple vs apple comparison. It did not sound better than a single U87 in the GE250 imo.

Sure makes sense your final 2 cents, Leo as it obviously no brainer get a 2nd hand GE300 in good conditions (often offered with his gigbag) for just 50€ more than a new GE250 BUT consider that if we are not in a hurry maybe we could get 2nd hand GE250 in a couple of months for, maybe, 300€ or less... so the gap between the two still remains the same.
I think the REAL question should be not if the GE300 worth the extra money (sure it does) but WHO should be interested in spending those extra money to take full advantage from the superior features of the GE300?
I think a pro like you should go for the 300 in any case because the lack of features of the 250 is quite important and may result in a limitation for what a pro need.
On the other hand, as you always said, the GE250 is very solid and complete option for the semi pro or the guitarist who have some live situation but doesn't really need that in deep tweaking control of every feature of his setup.
There are planty of us that have always played with a bunch of pedals straight in the amp and the GE250 is the perfect solution to get a lightweight portable and flexible rig which allows the guiarist to change is live rig at a very affordable price.
For this categroy of musicians not only the GE300 does not worth the price but its complexity may result in a headache and surprisingly poor results (sometimes less is better)

You are bringing to the table very good and valuable considerations and I don't have too much to add...other than saying that: the stereo mics with early reflection could be useful also for not pro users that maybe want to record themself with the most realistic sound possible and that the stereo loop is pretty useful in order to incorporate in your rig your favorite stereo time and modulation effects. Nevertheless, I love my GE 250 and I think that for the price is a really good pedalboard, hard to beat! Thank you for your message and for sharing your opinion with us!!!
Hi Leo. Another very useful vid. But although shown on your list, I'm surprised you didn't make any comment that the GE300 has no drum rhythm section. Obviously irrelevant from a tone perspective but an important difference if someone needs an all in one home practice tool. The only thing I can think of here is that its because the GE300 is designed more for the gigging player that needs more floor control and less likely to need drum rhythms whereas the GE200/250 are aimed more for home players and for whom drum rhythms are likely to be more useful. The other thing I'm very surprised at Leo is that in your summing up, you completely ignored the way superior floor control functionality of the GE300 which is a big reason for its price difference - the extra floor control with 10 v 5 foot switches is what makes the GE300 a gigging tool. So when considering value I think you ought to have mentioned that the GE300 is aimed at gigging players which is a different market to home players. Regardless of all the other features, without additional external footswitches/Midi board, the GE200 and GE250 simply don't offer the floor control you need to gig especially for cover players that are more likely to need to change patches for every song and even tone changes mid song.
As a gigging player myself it has to be the GE300 all the way, but it would still have been useful to have drum rhythms. BTW I've just seen your vid on the new v2.0 firmware upgrade for the GE300 which does make a very noticeable improvement to the GE300 tones. I know you haven't had a chance to get your hands on the new Line 6 Pod Go yet, but when you do, aside from an in depth look at the Pod Go, I'd love you to do a comparison of the Pod Go v Mooer GE300 as I plan to buy one of these to replace my old, big and heavy (but still very good sounding) Vox Tonelab SE . The Pod Go has a touch screen and snapshots which are cool features missing from the GE300, but with 2 x Sharc 32 chips it's a lot more sophisticated and powerful than Pod Go with its very limited 4 user blocks but I'm attracted by the Pod Go simplicity for gigging.
Do you know if the Mooer GE300 has a snapshot facility - if it doesn't, it would be really great if Mooer was able to add snapshots to the GE300 in a firmware upgrade as its a brilliant feature for gigging players.
The JCM 800 model on GE300 sounds muddy while the 250 sounds clearer. Also, I don’t care much for stereo loop and the 250 is almost $300 cheaper in my country. So my vote goes to the 250.

Bettere comparison in sound would be the exactly the same settings, on g300 setting used are with 2 microphone it change a lot.
To understand if the dynamic range of converter affect the sound second mike should be not used on ge300.
Phases between two microphones can give more space and dimension or sound softer but also cancel some frequencies, that sound muddy for someone.
Many people are more used or prefer a more direct sound from one mikes only.
So it that the difference we heard, that someone dislike.
Hi Antonio, actually I'm using one microphone also in the GE 300: there is a specific parameters page in the GE 300 where you can set the blend between the two mics, and I have set the second one to zero. Actually I think that there was room to improve the cab simulation of the GE 300, in fact with the last firmware update Mooer has improve a lot the cab simulation. Hi Leo! Amazing vídeo as usual! I have one question that came from watching this video. The sound of the JCM800 was configured exactly the same on the ge250 and the ge300, right? Same TS, same amp, same cab, same mic… why do they sound so different? If you told me that on the ge300 you used dual mic, than that would make a lot of sense, but from the info on the video, apparently you used only one mic for both the ge250 and the ge300, which makes me wonder, why do they sound so different? The amp models should be the same algorithm on both units right? Or am I mistaking? I do understand that the dynamic range is better on the ge300, but that still wouldn’t explain the drastic difference. If you could shed some light on this, I would be very thankful!
Hi Marcelo, one factor are for sure the ADA converters as you mentioned. Maybe also that the algorithms are different, for instance the computer apps of the two modelers are pretty different each from the other...and therefore also the algorithms could be different...another thinks is that, if I remember it well, the 300 received a pretty substantial firmware upgrade that improved the sound of the cab...If I remember it well after this video.

I don t care about tone capture and synth but in the 250 the fx block A is limited. For example i can t use 2 overdrives/distortions in the chain to make for instance the Gilmour sound with the muff boosted by tube driver... Maybe with further updates..

This is hard to decide... the 250 sounds better without backing tracks, but 300 sound better with backing track. Am talking just based on the demo sounds. I now have option to get a brand new 250 or a 2nd hand 300, both at same price.

Thanks, that's a very detailed comparison. Just wanted to ask, in your opinion, why is there such a huge difference in sound (JCM 800 solo part) , e.g.: 10:48 vs 11:10. Both solo examples use the same cab settings and the same mic settings, but sound completely different? GE250 seems a bit smaller, more presence (a bit synthetic ), where's GE300 is bigger and seems to sound a bit smoother? Do you know if both units use exactly the same set of impulse responses? Or is it because the "early reflection" option enabled? EQ settings are the same? Thanks
Hi Alex, your questions are really good and I was also surprised by the sound differences of the two units. These are my "speculations":
1) the ADA converters of the two units are for sure different, as the dynamic response is different. This could have an impact in the sound
2) The name of the cab I've used is the same (as the eq, and I've zeroed the early reflection), but maybe the IRs Mooer is using are different. In fact the IR of the GE 300 supports stereo miking so I suppose that it has been done following a different process compared to the GE 250, and this could have an impact in the sound
3) the editor software of the two units is really different...and this is pretty strange, as Mooer could save money doing a unique software common to all their modellers (that is the Line 6 approach, where for instance the HX stomp and the Helix share the same editor software). This is a total guess, but if the editor software is different, maybe there could be a difference also in the modeling algorithms

I think the difference is the second mike added on the g300, despite the 1 only mikes on the ge250, it makes a lot difference in heavy sound.
Better comparisin would be booth unit with only one microphone on cabinet.

HI Folks, between the Mooer 300 Lite, Mooer 250 and the Boss GT1000 Core, would you please rate them for amp feel? The amp models that interest me are the Tweed, Reverb Deluxe, and the Plexi / 800. Currently, I'm not playing out and home bound. I'm going from stomp boxes and simplifying to a multi effect unit and I'm looking for something that can go into my amps - front end or loop and into my computer. Thanks for your time. I've had the GE200 for several years and use mainly for practice a and a good travel companion, however there is a delay when switching on the effect.
Is there any latency that you have observed in these units?
0 latency on bandmate ge200 and also 0 latency on my ge250
@@repsol5082 perhaps I need an update. Playing has no latency, but only when switching the effect on/off. None with the looper or channel switch. How do you like the 250? Worth the upgrade?

Buyed a new ge250 in black friday for less €370... the ge250 has a built in metro and drums, ge300 doesn't have. For practice at home or small live is better!

Hi, I'm using the same stock CAB simulation in both the unit provided by Mooer . After this video there was an update for the GE 300 that improved a lot its cab simulations.

@@LeoGibsonGtr thanks was afraid about it, still confused which one to choose between ge200 and ge250, i play only live on stage and without amp, ge200 seems to be much easier (not faster?) to use and i am wondering if its good enough on stage (speed of changing presets, think if i would change order of presets they way i like + ctl button to get more effects quickyl then it should pretty nice)
is soud quality much better in ge250? is this a reasong to get 250 rather than 200? i wont use all ports which ge250 offers, i only connect it via stereo to dibox and then straight to the mixer, nothing more

In theory the sound quality of the GE 250 is a tiny bit better than the one of the GE 200 as it has 100db of dynamic range against 98...nevertheless you can check out the sound quality in the aforementioned video.
In my opinion the biggest differences are in the number of footswitches (that are more in the GE 250), the XLR out and the Effect loop (that are available in the GE 250): if these things are important for you, get the GE 250.

while I really like your videos, I quite skip through them... I skip the initial song, that doesn't bother me (I make metal, so it's just not relevant), I skip through every real-amp comparison (again, same reason, we don't use marshall), and I skip through the specifiation comparison (we all hopefully have learned to read). So from a 18-20min video, there's about 2mins relevant left for me. Also that fixation on stereo FX loop seems to take it's path through all your videos with every time mentioning some pedal I even don't know ;)

Hi, to me the clean sound is very similar between the 2 units and I don't think that the 300 sounds darker, while the simulation of the JCM 800 is a little bit darker with the 300. Obviously tweaking the GE 300 you can get it clearer. Thank you for your message.
@@LeoGibsonGtr I agree with Damien, to me on my trusted old AKG 270 studio headphones the difference is quite big, the GE300 sounds muffeled compared to the GE250, surpricing that there would be such difference, but you could likely as you say tweak it to sound the same.
