I installed my first room of carpet today in a small rental house we acquired. I watched your video yesterday and I have to say I did have fun doing it. Your video answered a lot of questions and I saved money doing it my self and the tools were cheap,I bought them at an auction. Thanks for the video, very informative
thanks for the video, i'm finishing off a room and will be putting a carpet down soon, your direst and to the point directions are just what i needed, thank you
I can hire a person to do my carpet but I'm actually quite interested to do it myself.. So this video has really helped get some ideas and actually build up my confidence! Thank you for this clear, neat and tidy video!
Just a quick tip if your working on a wood surface it's better to staple the underlay in before you trim in to prevent shifting and UN-needed frustration
@@joshuamarroquin803 on concrete yeah but on wood theres no need to adhere the pad that hard to to substrate, staples are more than suffice and you wont mar your plywood underneath to the point of repair the next time its replaced like with a glue. Unless your talking like those actual little squeeze bottles of pad glue I would use them but they're not common stock around here
Good job, mate. As for those saying he needs a strecher, yes the carpet will wear and eventually have wrinkles. HOWEVER by the time that happens (15-20 years down the road ) the room would be ready for a makeover.
This is the best and precise Video Instruction I ever saw on Carpet Installation. Good Job. I always forward it to all my customers and refer them to alrasbank site for financing.
Ive been doing remodeling for 3 years and I tell you . Ive seen some really messed up . Ill do it myself jobs . Some are pretty ugly and others they actually had us impress with their own techniques and ideas . Which is not the same as HIRING someone to do it correctly . But doing something yourself can be really fun
Wow fort your supposed to kick the kicker to stretch the carpet not tap it lol and one tip when you underlay don't let it bubble else your cut it to short
Not with the way that dude is kicking ...if you're going to "boot'n'scoot" you have to have some power behind it. This guy even kicks the same place twice! Without lifting the head! ..we both know that should put a hole in it
I used to install hard wood floors and we always used ply wood for the sub floor ....I've never installed carpet but can you use plywood along with the ( carpet pad) when installing carpet?
Xiaofeng Li in the UK it's called gripper rod/bar and in the US its called tack bar. Amazon ship it in about 600mm /2ft lengths in a cardboard box. Alternatively the pros buy it in 3 and 2 M lengths.
If you are going to show people how to install carpet at least be professional. The common person thinks a kicker is a stretcher. I have seen many jobs large and small not installed properly. Was the carpet in the environment for several days to acclimate? A kicker will NEVER replace a stretcher. Carpet not installed properly will many times void its warranty. Just because you have been doing it that way for X number of years doesn't make it right. whether its an 8x10 room or a 20x30 room, do it right and do it right the first time. BTW thank you to all of you hacks out there for putting a lot of $ in my pocket and allowing me to come back to these homes and fixing your improper installs.
Jeez the comments below are hilarious, people ready to kill each other over how to lay carpet. Maybe its time to start Carpet Cage Fighting, you have try and lay carpet while at the same time trying to beat the shit out of the other carpet layer who uses a different technique to you.
Whens he cutting it 10mm away from the skirting and using the bolster to get a smooth egde is that going under the skirting or butt up to it, would you be left with a lip or a ripple if you went butt up to the skirting, as I haven't got a gap under my skirting. Any help would be appropriate.
You have to kick it harder than that! Not you will have wrinkles to come up. Not using right knee kicker either.. that one done even have the spikes it's just for moving carpet, or to help on making seams.
If this guy was the most qualified carpet installer they could find I would be very worried about getting any advice from them or follow their videos. The smooth edge was good, if not a little big, and with no explanation on what to do around doors etc. Also, if kicker is in you right hand, don't kick with your left...

Thank you for this clear and thorough vid! I'm watching it a second time because I'm laying my own carpet today.

Did you end up fitting the carpet yourself? If so how'd you get on with it?
Out door capter
Great video. Gonna do this when the weather is good enough to put all my furniture outside!

No. Use padding glue

@@Rock_Shady plus when using staples you know the pad isn’t going to move
Simple and straight to the point. Thank you

Good tutorial - thank you mate!

Many, many times it's more like 15-20 months... Just long enough to wear out the one year install warranty
He forgot to mention that 99% of flooring specialists at home improvement stores don't know shit about flooring.
Dont knock it 😀 thats where we get repair jobs over the holiday breaks
Interesting rebond you have. In the US our tacks are beveled at a 45 on one side so you can feel which way they go.
I have go through whole video it is best.
Thanks for creating and uploading this very helpful video !
3:53... That's not a knife
+Double Gunns Croc Dundee......"Now that`s a Knife!"............
doesnt matter if its a small or big room a carpet stretcher is always needed! But if you want to bust your knees use a kicker

Hahahahahahahaha
Always read the reviews first cause they always know best 🤣
You mean comments?

Bob good job
This just saved my @ss! I have a Belgian, and he ate all of the carpet in front of my door. The renters left some carpet behind. Looks solid!
Beautiful work
Very well explained. Thank you.
Great job
When is it getting stretched? the next day.

Im ready to impress all my friends

Aaaaaight mate wonderfull

And don't forget to always keep the carpet fuzzy side up when installing .
ive seen videos where they say to start in the center of the longest wall. some say start at corners. where are you supposed to start?
Thanks. Really helped out.
awesome thank you!
nice n if the wall was a tan color it would be so much cuter
This is Bunnings , like the say buy cheap buy twice

Why is he wearing an apron
lol
Adam Wallis he don't want to scuff up his knickers lol
that Apron is from a hardware shop called Bunnings in Australia, so i presume he works there.
Bc he's a gangster
So people like you would ask questions.
thank you
Brilliant.
Great video, very straight forward with the information. I think all I need is a carpet laying kit
nice vid...
lol everyone getting upset that he didn't use a stretcher in a room the size of a small jail cell. A kicker would do the job fine here.
Not with the way that dude is kicking ...if you're going to "boot'n'scoot" you have to have some power behind it.

lol this is interesting I always get calls from people who buy from bunnings. I wonder if they teach them how to join?
Do you need to put down new padding every time you install new carpet?
There is a specific kicking pattern when doing a room, if it's not installed properly u will have bubbles.
thanks for the video. Could you please provide the name of edge bar with the nails upright? and the installation layer? Thanks!

how high off the ground is the skirting board? or is it touching the ground?
4:38 because we can't staple into the concrete.... But you have!! Lol
That's what I was wondering.

No hand contact and the only weapon is the knee kicker.
Bruh im weak
@@blairjames414 😂😂😂😂
I wish he do a video on how to join seams and door ways
Haaaa I love how people say you need a power stretcher. No you don't, not in small rooms. If you kick it correctly you will have no issues
He is to old to used the kicker
Do you need the underlay if your working on a wooden floor or can you just go straight to laying down carpet? Noob here!
***** I like that word, "footsies." It sounds cute.

it but up to the smooth edge
You should tuck it under the baseboard then cut.
I'm just curious, he had a seam but he didnt connect the two. How did that work? Also, how is it now?
Mate did the carpet had pockets? I just fight w one with heaps of bubly pockets that are impossible to stretch. Would the carpet be funny or old?
We call it tack strip here in michigan
Good video, but carpet layers doing this everyday must have terrible backs, knees and necks.
Back more than anything most of us use stretchers so the knees not so bad.
Tip 1: Always buy 1 piece of carpet which fits the entire room to begin with.
True fact bro
wow what a hack ...room is definitely gonna need a restretch in no time...this dude would never make it in a carpet one store
not only would I say it to his face but I'd probably be hired to fix jobs done by guys like this...
if you do shitty work I'd gladly let you know to your face ...I get tired of fixing half ass jobs
just don't do shitty work and I won't have to hurt your feelings
you mad bro? lol!!!😭
do you really want to leave your mom's basement to meet people to kick your scrawny ass for some comments on RUclips? You ma'am are a fucktard!
Where do you buy the rug gripper or the smooth edge
Had lots of people call us who tried to fit their own carpet they need us to fix what they stuffed its like doing Ur own plumbing leave it to a Pro
You have to kick it harder than that! Not you will have wrinkles to come up. Not using right knee kicker either.. that one done even have the spikes it's just for moving carpet, or to help on making seams.
not a trade it's diy job... big difference
I check a lot of woodworking handbooks. These one from woodprix are the best.
did ya put in NEW! Baseboard
❤ hi I lead a carpet for the fist time it's so hard I was showtiñg the sweating it was 6ft .7ft it took me hours .John Duggan
It’s called tackless or tack strip
How do you get a nail in concrete?
Equaldust 493416 technique
You dont have to adhere the underlay to the concrete?
if you need to used power strech
So when do you use a stretcher to straightening out the carpet? I didn't see you do it
how do you install how do you install
