I grow kohlrabi here in southern Maine but I learned a few new things on how to grow them better from you. I like to preserve my kohlrabi by slicing them about the size of sliced water chestnuts, blanching and freezing them. I use them in place of water chestnuts in Asian cooking. I dehydrate the leaves, 0:16 then pulverize them into a green powder which I mix in with other green powders and add to meatloaf and soups in small amounts to add more nutrition. I love your easy teaching style and how you demonstrate how to cook the veggies when you harvest them. I’m looking forward to spring and garden season.
This looks interesting to grow and eat. I will try it this fall using the 3 gallon nursery pot. Thank you both for inspiring us to grow a home garden !
I grew kohlrabi here in NC for the first time this spring. Very easy to grow, full of vitamin C, too. I ended up just slicing and taking to work to crunch on raw. Going to transplant some seedlings to containers soon. I can also see potential for making coleslaw with this!
This is one of my favorite vegetables. The greens on this vegetable is fantastic. I am so glad to see this video. Thank you again for the education. 👽✌️
I love Kohlrabi ❤ I use your method of growing and grew so many last year cant wait to grow more this fall ❤God Bless you guys and thank you for all your help ✌🏼❤ Oh and Congratulations on your 500K Subscribers !!
I love your videos. You are both blessed. I live in Fort Walton Beack, Florida. Have you given thought to maybe having a physical class? I would love to come visit and pay to stay one night. Being in the quiet would be so good for people trapped in the city. Coffee and prayer would top it off. !!😍
I grew these in NW indiana when i was a kid in the garden. I love the way it's like a small cabbage 😆 tastes like a cross between a cabbage and a potato to me 👌 thx for sharing 👍
I absolutely love kohlrabi, it's one of my favorite veggies. My father always grw them he always put them in soup. I prefer to eat them raw, but you can't let them grow to big if you eat them raw. Thank you for your show
Thank you, Miss Nancy and Mr. Hollis! Once again, another great video! I love how inspirational, entertaining, and informative these are. And I got the biggest kick out of hearing that BingBing gets his own steak! ❤
The Kohlrabi looks good. I just find it hard to branch out from my old tried and true collards and turnips enough to try it. But your video might have convinced me to plant some this fall. I've been tuned in your channel for a while now and I really like your videos. Maybe especially the fishing ones and those like this one from planting to harvest type videos. Thanks for sharing and may God bless. 👍
I love your seed to harvest videos. I'm growing purple Karabi for the first time because of the color.😊 Never heard of nor seen a Karabi until I was ordering seeds. Hopefully I will like it.
if you haven't tried yet, those kohlrabi leaves sauteed and seasoned with some scrambled eggs makes a heck of a healthy breakfast. thank you for all the work you do to make us really great videos and informative content.
Ok Hollis, you convinced me! I'm dragging out my seeds and getting some started. I have never grown these. I thought they took months like cabbage, and ya know how it's hard to grow cabbage here! Flies, bugs, and then there is bugs and flies. 😆😆
I love kohlrabi. Thank you for teaching me how to better grow them! I really believe you two have the best how-to/educational/learning/fun/cool/entertaining videos. And your faith-based endings are refreshing & appreciated too!🙏🏽😊💕
Always enjoy watching your videos. I tried Kohlrabi this spring but summer jumped us early and I never got anything bigger than a ping pong ball. I will have to try next year in the fall. You make it look too easy! Wishing you continued success from Ontario, Canada.
I'm so happy I found you guys! I enjoy your videos very much! You guys are like just having friends talk about the garden. I love the way you explain and then show how to do every step. Please keep the videos coming!!!!
Thanks for another great video. I grew kohlrabi for the first time this spring. I grew the white and was impressed how well they grew in a hügelkultur. I liked the flavor so much that I got more seed and added the purple. I like colors in the garden too. So happy for you and Nancy to have been able to get your FL homestead. God Bless.
A smart woman never complains! You may not do it the same way but if you are sincere in your effort we are sincere in our gratitude! My husband does our laundry and will empty the dishwasher any time I ask or if he wants a coffee cup that is in the clean dishes he just empties the whole thing. I vacuum, sweep, and mop. We usually make the bed together and toilets and mirrors are all mine. He did some cooking after I had a new Spinal Cord Stymulator battery put in. I had 2 incisions this time. The old battery was just about impossible to charge where it was placed on me before. So he learned how to use the Ninja Foodi the new oven our Ninja drink maker. After I was able to cook again he promptly forgot how they all work.
Man i love those kohlrabies used to eat one raw with my lunch everyday thru the season! 😉😜👍👌 thanks for sharing the video--- brought back old good memories..
Is there a reason you don’t give the peelings to the chickens. I’d think those would make them happy also. Thank you for the info. I have some in the garden and didn’t have a clue how to harvest or cook them. I’ve never had one but I think I’ll really like them.
What a wonderful video! I'm going to try growing kohlrabi next year, in containers. I've never tried eating it. So nice how you give the greens to your chickens. Awww, Bing Bing gets his own little steak! How adorable! Good health and happiness to you! Hugs and kissies for Bing Bing!
Nancy cooked the purple leaves and they tasted pretty good to me. I like the way she did it. I don’t care for them boiled but she cooked them down with the roots
@@HollisNancysHomestead I'll always try something once. I like lots of baby greens, it's the big ones I have trouble with. This is the second time I'm watching this video just put mine in containers starting in the house under skylight. It's cold today ugh but I'm starting them anyway I'm going to follow this step by step. Thank you for the video
I love your videos. I live in an apartment but I'm making plans to buy a house where I can grow in a backyard. Until then I'm learning and growing what I can in a tiny greenhouse on my balcony 😆
Thank you so much for your lovely video. I have never tried it before but with your great instructions it looks easy to grow. May God continue to bless you.
Kohlrabi is my favourite vegetable. I am caning Kohlrabi for the winter. It tastes delicious in Bechamel sauce. Thank you and bless you Hollis and Nancy for the video.
Excellent video! I noticed that you did not put a fish in the containers. Do you ever put a fish in the container when growing your vegetables? If so, for what vegetables do you place a fish in the container?
Hi Hollis, Nancy and Bing Bing. Just wanted to say thanks for this video. I was thinking of planting some Khorabi. Great idea saving the leaves chickens, too!
I have seen these, just never knew how to cook them. You did a good job of describing the taste. I will be trying these in the fall. They look so cool, too.
I love Kohlrabi. I’m looking forward to growing these soon. I cook the green roots and leaves together. So delicious. I have to plant in containers so I really appreciate your videos. I have not seen the purple ones before this video.
I love the way you explain how to grow things even to the lessor experience growers. Hollis, do you have a compose pile on the homestead, I'm curious what do you do with all the scrapes from your harvest,? Thanks for sharing, Bless you and Ms Nancy
I LOVE KHOLRABI 💘. I did a video making KHOLRABI Hash that was absolutely DELICIOUS 😋. I personally think the white tastes better than the purple and cannot wait to grow them this year. Thank you for the video.
Nice video, I'm in north Florida and have both of those . as seedlings. I'm concerned about planting them in the spring/ summer temps. How do you think they will do?
Thank you for watching! Highly unlikely I will ever change to no dig. I am happy with my garden technique but everyone should work their garden with what works best for them. The main thing is just enjoy gardening however you so it❤️
I'll have to give the individual pots a try. Root maggots and/or slugs decimated my tiny crop this year. Kohlrabi is a very popular veg in my state (AK).
It's a little late for me to start these this year (I think... I'm going to start a few seeds in the greenhouse and see what happens!) I'm definitely going to get some for the cornbeef and cabage for St. Patrick's day. Thank you for sharing this! I absolutely love the format of following a single crop from seed to harvest.. very very helpful!
I really appreciate that these videos follow a crop from beginning to end. Very informative.
Nancy needs to show us how to cook these
She’s got a video coming this fall on it
I find myself going back to your videos for help!! Y'all's hard work is very much appreciated!!

Thnx. I now see what I had done wrong when I tried to grow in a container previously.
Glad I could help

Love Black Kow!!!!!
Wow! I didn't realize you meant an actual fish head going In..lol. Interesting., learned something new. I appreciate you doing container planting. 😃
If you don’t have actual fish heads(which I don’t), you can just use fish fertilizer.
thank you I appreciate your video's I love how you explain everything in step and details.
I needed this video. My kohlrabi did not grow well this year. Your cutting skills were just fine but I'm guessing Nancy is the pro.
I eat them raw in place of fried snacks and sprinkled with Tajin. It's a really filling and refreshing snack. They are really tasty.
I have never tried this vegetable before but it’s beautiful 😊
It a wonderful vegetable to eat, we grow some each season
