- If 144 is the Vapp for Quito, what would be the Vapp for Amsterdam at the same weight?
- Autobrakes 4 will provide a very high deceleration rate. Would 3 be enough really and 4 is used for extra "caution"?

-I think they didn't, as far as I know the altitude call outs on final are also disabled when disconnecting the GPWS (although I am not 100% sure about that), and you can still hear the call outs ;)
-Exactly the same, the Vapp depends on the weight and is expressed in IAS (indicated air speed), IAS and GS (ground speed) are two different things. Because of the elevation of Quito the ground speed is slightly higher compared to Amsterdam, but the Vapp is the same ;)
-I'm not sure about the autobrakes here, but you can calculate the required autobrake setting depending on runway length etc.

Thanks for your comment! On the speed, I really meant approach GS, not IAS. I calculated the difference myself and turns out that 144 IAS at 10.000 feet roughly equate to 167 GS, so about 23 knots faster than at sea level.

+patrik streng Time in the simulator is mainly to practise extreme situations: difficult landings, engine failure etc, apart from training young pilots before letting them fly a real jet.

Why on a view from outside at Quito the 777 has the Asia livery?
KLM is flying to Taiwan and China for many years. In the past these two countries were in a conflict with each other, so as a result of this conflict China would not allow airliners into their airspace if they were flying to Taiwan. To avoid this situation KLM created a subsidiary called KLM Asia. The KLM Asia aircrafts were flying to Taiwan and the original aircrafts were flying to China. Nowadays KLM has several KLM Asia liveries so they can choose which plane to use for the flight to Taiwan. The other KLM Asia liveries fly to other destinations around the world when they are not used for the Taiwan route
How is the Vref speed (at same weight) compared to sea level runways?
+alphaklg It's about the same; at 250T the Vref at 10000ft is only 1kts higher compared to sealevel. On the other hand the true air speed (TAS) increases with approximately 2%/1000ft. E.g. Vref Quito 163kts gives a TAS of around 184kts.
The beard gives nice dignified look to the captain.

+dericktor5 It's easy to tell by it's cockpit. It's a Boeing 777 variant (probably the 200-ER, since KLM doesn't operate the LR version. It might be a 300-ER as well)
