I worked at Universal when the Shrek 4D attraction (RIP) opened. Specifically I worked the turnstiles at the entrance, where the Shrek soundtrack was playing on loop... All day... I probably heard those two Smash Mouth songs 12 times a shift. I'm still scarred I think.
Luckily we were one of the few groups that got to swap between working the Studios and Islands of Adventure. So some shifts I got the nice environmental muzak there instead.
I’m not gonna lie, I feel like they’re missing out on including a Mr. Ping Noodle Shop where guests can get noodles.
1) maybe there’s room for expansion
2) kids are also picky eaters and may not like it.
3) the former KidZone pizza area may be too close to warrant another restaurant, beyond just simple snacks.

There are A LOT of stuffs they can extract just from one movie. They haven’t even touch How to train your dragon. It’s crazy!
@@duongthanhtung492they’re getting an entire themed land next door at Epic. I think HTTYD has plenty, and doesn’t need representation at the original park beyond merch, which they’ve been selling for years.

@@AdamYJ To be fair, that's exactly what almost everyone would have called it anyway, even if the name had been something different. Some will still call it "Kidzone" and the rest will call it "Dreamworks Land."

As well as Epic Universe they are upgrading their existing parks so well with Minions and now this Dreamworks mini lands. In ten years from now it'll be interesting to see how they both face off against each other. Possibly Universal will have taken over
Alicia said in a previous podcast that it's likely that Universal are doubling down on wanting a Nintendo presence at all of their parks; the Simpsons land at Universal is most likely being replaced with Pokémon and the Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure is most likely going to be replaced with the Legend of Zelda. These two properties alone will bring in massive crowds, just like how the Wizarding World areas have been a huge draw 😱🙌🏽🙌🏽

Shame to see the woody wood pecker ride go, that was the first ever coaster i went on when i was a little kid. Hope all little ones now get to enjoy this area and get good memories like mine.
Actually, it is the same coaster, just re painted and re themed.
Yeah, my daughter loved this coaster and would ride it again and again. But thankfully the track is exactly the same, just different theming. She’s at least seen the Trolls movies, unlike a single Woody Woodpecker cartoon.

They didn’t need to do a lot to change it to be fair.
I don't even have kids and I can tell how much of an upgrade this is. And they're building it so fast! Sure, the coaster is a reskin, but they're still building a lot of structures, and both Shrek's tree and the Panda Village are very impressive.
They'll need to at least update the facade of ET if they don't want it to seem really shabby by comparison! Though I feel like that whole ride needs an update. I don't want them to get rid of it or anything, but it's getting pretty scrungy and dated.
ET is the only OG ride left at universal. Yes its dated but its still fun to ride and shows how far the park has come. Its perfect the way it is.
@@jaylapuckett681 it is, but it's also gotten worn. Everything needs new paint, the animatronics need a refresh and possibly a hardware upgrade... I think a bit of projection mapping would benefit some parts of the ride too. Just a sprucing up, not any major alterations.

Imagine a 4D or VR show where Megamind and Minion (now named Ol’ Chum) chase down Tighten (who escaped to get revenge on Megamind) through other Dreamworks movies and shows ala The Fantastic World of Hanna Barbera and Jimmy Neutron’s Nicktoon Blast
This looks a real invented fabulous imaginative area.
They to be putting as much love, care and detail into this DreamWorks minio land as they did with the wizarding world of Harry Potter attractions.

Universal's creative team keeps banging out new content every month, it seems like! Not every single project is going to be a huge hit (cough standthrough cough), and it doesn't have to be; it's awesome to see them continually swinging with cool new ideas.

I think people are forgetting that this land is a replacement for Kids Zone, which was always meant for younger guests. The target audience is young kids who are too small to go on most other rides at the park, allowing the little ones to have somewhere to just run around and play. If we keep that in mind, I think the land absolutely does its job and adds some color and excitement for older guests to also appreciate.

Finally a proper kids play area at Universal. Japan has an amazing kids area and I never understood why they dont have it in the US parks. Now make one in Hollywood! Parade looks awesome as well and a great way to bring back old missed attractions like BTTF and T23D.

Pretty late in the game for that. OLC already release all the information regarding what’s going to be there, rides, restaurants, gift shops, and a tour. Looks pretty much done even though it opened in June. Only a few scaffolding remains.

The previous KidZone was really outdated (As great as the 'American Tail' movies were, no kids today have heard of them), and this is just what it needs!
When I heard you say they’re replacing the Fievel play area. I was surprised that they kept that area for so long. Thought anything American Tail related attraction would’ve left back in the late nineties/early 2000s
After seeing the 3rd trolls movie, I hope they have some velvet and veneer references or MERCH!

I'm glad I got a coaster credit on Woody Woodpecker back in 2019 😅 it had just rained, and I was the only one there. I was grossed out by how nasty & musty the little safety nets over the bars smelled 🤢 even back then I was thinking the area needed an update/replacement
If there's no land about Road to eldorado or Rise of the guardians, i'll be so dissapointed! Theses movies are funny, have beautiful music, likable characters, cool villains. They are a big part of my childhood; i love them! Dreamworks need to give them more respect and love. Just putting the most popular is not fair. The guardians, Miguel and Tulio can be in the park too. I doubt it will happen though ☹
Ironic that the Troll character is the HUGEST of all the characters.
It's unfortunate they aren't upping the ride count, but they are putting more effort into this than I expected.
I hope they add a how to train your dragon section in the future. I would be so cool even cooler since the live action HTTYD is coming out next year

I know the land is geared towards kids, but I’m incredibly disappointed they aren’t going to have a Shrek, Madagascar or Kung Fu Panda dark ride of any type
How about something like Avatar's Flight of Passage wher you are at the top of the dragon being chased by Lord Farquard or something?

I'd HAVE to think that's part of the long term plan for this area. Might have to also see what comes of the nearby Simpsons area first in the next few years. That may dictate if/when one of these DreamWorks IP's gets an actual ride.

Well, looks like dreamworks land gets two rides with the merry go around ride. Not going to lie can't wait to see how this looks done. Also, on the sites someone noticed over by the meet and greet barney area are some streamers in gabbys colors. maybe that's her meet and greet area? The shrek outhouse is said to be rumored to be the entrance to a slide. People online have nicknamed it "Shreks poop shoot".
The merry-go-rounds look like playground equipment, not an actual ride. And poop chute is hilarious!
This my chance to experience shrek at universal Studios Orlando resort because I am a huge fan of the shrek franchise ever since I was a kid and I never went to universal studios Orlando resort as a kid and I’m going on 23 so my inner child will be proud

Yup I’m 9 but when i was 3-2-1 i watched trolls everyday i still kinda do but not a-lot and I’m crying because as a baby this was my dream
It’s great that Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and Trolls are being part of Dreamworks Land, however they’re needs to be varieties like Road to El Dorado, Spirit, The Croods, Madagascar, Monsters vs Aliens, How to Train Your Dragon and many more

I have not seen any construction at Kidzone Pizza. At very least they should change the name. You can still see some team members in the area wearing their old Kidzone hats.
I predict that Viva from Trolls 3 will become a meet and greet character. Also, I was thinking about the theater show being a child-friendly rave based on Trolls 2, but the Imagination Celebration sounds a bit like that, but with pop music and all the Dreamworks franchises.
Also, I know it is obvious, and I don’t need to mention it, but we all know that How to Train Your Dragon is absent because it’s getting its own land in Epic Universe.
This looks very close to completion, any idea of which month it might open? There’s a huge gap that needs filling for kids visiting right now 😔
the universal studios minecraft world has an area under construction that has the same construction wall decorations as the dreamworks land...well only the shrek ones. i wonder if it will be updated when this land opens

All this looks awesome I’m very excited for the Shrek area, I'm glad Shrek is now being advised again since the minions took over Shrek 4D, the thing i wonder about this is Why isn’t Madagascar in this? That franchise was very popular when I was a kid.
Because it’s not about what was popular when you were a kid. It’s about what is popular to the children NOW, and it’s ability to be timelessfor future children. Madagascar, you’d think was safe, being that it had three movies, spin off movie, several TV series, and holiday specials, but it just somehow managed to not keep audiences. There was an entire Madagascar land at Universal Singapore, and they completely destroyed it for another boring Minions land. Minions is more popular than Madagascar, I’m afraid.
I mean, look at Fievel’s Playland. It had four movies, and a tv series, yet was already dated the second it opened in the park. They don’t want Madagascar to become another Fievel. And if you want proof of this, look at the concept art for that Universal Kids Resort in Texas. First concept showed an entire Central Park Zoo area, clearly for Madagascar. 11 months later, they showed updated concept art, only the Madagascar land isn’t just gone, a Minions area was added!
Its a dead franchise now and all the IPs they choose instead are more popular

Looks like a line of newly planted pine trees will separate and buffer the Shrek area from the E.T. entrance, extending the forest feel of the E.T. queue outdoors. Unfortunately, the E.T. attraction marque has been hidden because of its close proximity to Shrek’s swamp. Will Universal move it or add additional signage further out front so the entrance is more noticeable?
I believe additional ET signage or an arch will be added to make it easier to locate from the main walkway

Is the Trollercoaster just a re-theme of the Woody Woodpecker coaster? That seems odd, as that coaster was certainly quite old.
It is a retheme, but it was also refurbished before being repainted.

I’d imagine the Trollercoaster being one, but the track may be different since they get to build it completely from scratch. I honestly prefer the earlier concept art over the more recent one.

lol, I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not, but ignoring any political or religious issues with such an area, it’s a bit dated. It’s a great film, but most people born this century have never even seen it. That was the problem with the old KidZone. By the time Fievel’s Playland opened, the kids who loved the movie were now in middle school. By the time Barney opened, the kids who grew up with that also were in middle school. Once they’re that age, they were too old, and those young enough to enjoy either never knew of the show, or didn’t care.
That’s why I’m glad the Universal Kids Resort is at least trying to target younger middle schoolers, and are using properties, like the ones here, that are still relevant decades later.
I was being sarcastic I know that would never work for a theme park land targeted at kids.
