Something that always gets me with many popular modern apparitions, particularly those conerning the end times, is they are often more concerned with material wellbeing over spiritual wellbeing.

Glad to see the Vatican is working on getting some stuff updated. There’s been such a jump in technology usage and information spread that it’s more than worth it to go back and look for areas of improvement.
In regard to this document, I do agree with the sentiment of making sure supernatural phenomenon is being properly vetted and classed. There’s quite a number of loud voices claiming “X apparition said this and look what’s happening!” and “Y received that in a vision so we MUST believe it!” when by its nature private revelations are PRIVATE, there-go not binding on the Church as a whole. Had someone recently say Catholics MUST pray the rosary daily and have a full devotion to it because Fatima said so, even though Eastern Catholics don’t have that kind of practice and the rosary isn’t a required devotion by the Church. I like it of course, but I’m not going to force those who don’t have a calling to it to take it up when there’s other devotions that can nourish their souls just as well.
It’s also been tiring seeing certain people promote visionaries and apparitions as true and binding when there has not been an investigation yet, and the ‘message’ spouts things very close to “the Chair of Peter is vacant” and “the faithful are being misled by the smoke of Satan in the Vatican.” Which is very close in theme and ideas that certain promoters have either in content or their speech habits.

Thank you for this review of the introduction to the new rules for evaluating supernatural phenomena. I found Cardinal Fernandez's remarks about the activity of the Holy Spirit in continuing to help us on our spiritual journey, to be very encouraging!
About "Fiducia Supplicans", though, I wish you would review it again, alongside the parallel document found on the Website of the German Synodal Way. That document is entitled "Blessing ceremonies for couples who love each other", and it calls for a formal booklet to be published by the German Catholic Church on how the couples are to prepare, with the help of seminars and the input of their pastors, and how pastors are to conduct these elaborate church ceremonies (paragraphs 4-9).
I think this comparison could explain the language used in "Fiducia Supplicans" that confused commentators and for which clarifications had to be made.
In effect, FS was a topical document, for a specific purpose, that had to get out quickly in order to stop the German Synodal Way from publishing their handbook at the end of 2023.
(For some reason, I keep thinking of "Mit brennender sorge")
But truly, for all you do, I am very grateful!!

Except that FS stopped the German Synodal Way from spinning off into complete schism -- yet.
Yes, it was hastily written. But there was good reason for haste. The plan was to roll out quasi-marriage ceremonies in late 2023, to be reviewed and evaluated in 2025 by the Synodal Committee. The Synodal Committee was to replace the Bishops in governing the Church in Germany in March 2024.
Please read the Website for the German Synodal Way, specifically the document entitled "Blessing ceremonies for couples who love each other." It is only 4 pages, but difficult to read because of the implicit accusations against the Traditional Catholic Church as being un-loving and un-welcoming.
FS was laser-focused on the danger of the German Church abandoning further the Traditional Teachings of the Catholic Church. That's why the pope was not particularly upset over the African bishops saying they would not be implementing spontaneous blessings for same-sex couples. The purpose of FS was to stop the German Church from conflating the two kinds of blessings described in FS: 1) formal blessings on the union of one man and one woman in a stable, indissoluble, exlusive union that is open to the natural begetting of children, and 2) informal, spontaneous blessings of individuals in a sinful relationship in hopes that they will be strengthened to resist temptations to sin.
And in that, FS has been successful.

As a self-described "traditionalist" (I think we're just catholics, but I digress..), I appreciate that Jimmy is critical of Fidicia Supplicans (I am actually very glad he has the honesty to say so when other personalities out there who will go unnamed continue to confuse their audiences about it). At risk of sounding flippant and rude, it's gratifying to know that Cardinal Fernandez is a theist(!), however the very fact the question is even out there to start with sort of tells us where we are in the life of the church these days. I actually think it's good and normal guys like Jimmy want to defend the hierarchy. But he's initial statements about this are awkward and sort of shine a light on the problems in the church today. I will agree it was actually good there are norms put in place for apparitions. I am also glad it seems that the Vatican didn't tell us to no longer to believe in Fatima. I am hoping modernism doesn't work against belief of legitimate apparitions over time.

    • @susand3668
      @susand3668 3 месяца назад

I think there is no danger of anyone proclaiming that Our Lady of Fatima is not of supernatural origin! Every pope has promoted Fatima. Some interpretations of certain elements (like the Third Secret?) connected with Fatima have brought confusion -- and God is not the Author of confusion -- but Pope Francis has a deep devotion to Pope Saint John Paul II, who placed the bullet that nearly killed him into the crown of Our Lady of Fatima in gratitude for her protection.
Please remember that Pope Francis loves Our Lady. He wishes to be buried in St. Mary Major, which he visits just before leaving on any trip and immediately after he returns from any trip. You need have no fear.

How can we be sure that in Fatima there was a real apparition and not that Sister Lucia was using her own psychic abilities including premonition? I feel bad to even think in this possibility, I want the apparition to be real.

    • @a.t.c.3862

All the records of the time need to be available to the faithful. We need to know when and in which location each apparition is said to have occurred and what its content was.
What the children said at each stage, and what was revealed only at a later stage.
Fatima is not part of the deposit of faith. Even if it were false it would not affect our Faith in the least.

@@perlaadams1 I'm thinking of the newspapers reporting on the event on October 13, 1917, and tens of thousands also saw the promised miracle, some even from far away. Nobody knew what the miracle would be. And it was reported that after the sun went back to normal, their clothing, saturated by hours of rain, were all dry. Would big libraries have the newspapers, of that day from that locality, on microfilm/microfiche? It was in Santarem Portugal newspapers. There are photographs of all the people.

@@deborahparise5566Yes, not all present alleged see the sun’s miracle and even if true, Could be that Sister Lucia caused the phenomenon using telekinesis? Jimmy said that some people can even move the clouds by telekinesis and teenagers can use their physic function involuntarily as in poltergeist cases. I want to know why, in this case, physic function is out the table. Even most weird phenomena (as in the incarnation episode) the explanation was physic function. Fatima was way more simple phenomenon because only the kids saw the apparition and received the message. There are so many alternatives to the sun’s event. I care more about the message.

@@deborahparise5566Jimmy said that some people can move the clouds with telekinesis. I just want to be sure why physic function by Sister Lucia could not be the explanation in this case. After all, premonition is also natural function according to Saint Thomas. I hope Jimmy can explain because many things that I used to believe are not true like Guadalupe’s tilma and Loreto’s house. And even the weird phenomena (as in incarnation episode) have natural explanations (physic function by the parties).
The sun’s phenomenon is the less of my worries (no all people present said they saw something). I want to know if the Virgin’s apparition and message was real and eliminate the possibility that Sister Lucia was using physic function and premonition so I can have peace.
