This has to be one of the most beneficial counselling videos I have come across. Thank you very much for making it. Well presented, with good examples.
I can only echo Amanda. The down to earth, non-condescending approach is amazing and made to look so effortless. Your calm collected, manner of Tutoring is refreshing and inspiring.
I am a senior manager and trying to give our management team some tools to help them communicate with their teams. Active listening is important. This video has helped clarify my thoughts. Thank you.
Great points and one important thing to add is " proximics ". Don't sit your client further than 1.5 metres away. It makes them feel isolated. And never have a desk between you or have a better chair then your client. Set up proximics is critical along with lighting and quiet
Unfortunately, I found this a bit late, after filming my level 1 counselling skills, which I struggle to apply all these amazing skills that you taught here. Nevertheless, from now on and in the future, I will be able to use these amazing skills, because of the way you thoroughly explained it. Thanks a lot...
Empathetic listening is key. Some people in the field pass thinly-concealed judgements on their clients and make all manner of assumptions under the implied guise that ‘they know you better than you know yourself.’ It often comes from a place of genuinely-good intentions but you’ve just got to be careful when it comes to how you interact with clients in that sense. You’ve got to let them talk because it’s more about them than you.
Thank you, Dr. Tutor, I'm a first-year graduate student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, at Walden University. This youtube posting was extremely helpful. I would even pay for your services, and I will look forward to more online advice and tips. Keep up the great work and thank you :).
I once had a counsellor who stared at me for duration of the session, he hardly spoke/gave me feedback on what I was sharing. It made me bey uncomfortable for sure haha. Thank you for this video, it’s helping with revision.
This video very helpful for me I am training to be a professional counsellor it's very important to show empathy and sympathy as saying I can feel you to make a client more comfortable.
This video offers practical suggestions for listeners (helpers) that support entry level counseling skills when providing service to (clients) speakers. I enjoyed it!
Thank you this is very useful. I like the part about dealing with what's affecting them most at the moment and how other things can fall away if you get to the bottom of that.
You sound really knowledgeable about the subject. I'd just feel I could trust the videos a bit more if you put a short description of your experience/qualifications in the description.
Hello Dr.Rory, First of All, I would like to thank you for your great videos. Anyway, I am wondering if you can send me the right subtitle file of this video in order to translate it to Arabic. Thank you
how do i become a counsellor..... i want to study abroad in south korea but ever since my dad heard i wanna do counselling he hasnt exactly been up for it.... what do i need to become a counsellor and how can i get into university....
"They know their own truths". What does this mean? They know how they feel? (This is not always true). They know what they need to do? (This is not always true). Are you saying both...they know how they feel and what needs to be done, but need time to describe and accept it, and need your support (validation, clarification)

Do a book review on the self-help satire "You Suck" by Paulie Amigo. It's always trending in the Amazon Kindle book Counseling category.
Excellent
The story about the person ending up in the pond made me laugh. Am I evil? 😂
Counselling is not for you Ms Donald - complete lack of empathy... lol
Really like your videos... but as I understand it you were describing counter-transference, right?
yes Junot, you are right -- the reaction is from the therapist to the client, so this is COUNTER TRANSFERENCE NOT Transference.
❤️🙏

This video was unwatchable. The bright blue glare and orange writing was painful on the eyes. Couldn't finish it.
