      17:15 Wrong actually, shes at fault. He left the door open but as soon as he starts the turn its his corner, he turns in before she dives for the apex. On top of that, There was no way she slows to take the inside line on that corner. If youre gonna dive like that you should be slowing enough to take an inside line and go 2 wide. 100% fault on Sarah, sorry

    As a current 1500 Irating driver in sportscar (Not too much) and a 1800 Irating driver in oval, what will benefit you most right now is getting a good jump off the line, and learning to drive with cold tires, the MX5 cup cars are very hard to drive and are easy to spin and wreck on the first 2 laps. My advice is to get to class D and run the GR86 Cup, those things are really fun and feel impossible to wreck.
    Edit: at 10:00 when the slower car infront makes a mistake like that and you have a door open, you have to take it and you cant lift, if you hit them, well there isnt much thats your fault they couldnt move out of the way.

    • @SarahNocchi
      @SarahNocchi  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks for the advice. I honestly find it so tricky to control the MX5 on cold tires and that is why I usually tend to lose places at the start, as I play it suuuuper safe.
      I am already in Class D, but want to stick with the MX5 for a bit as I think it's a great car to learn with.

    • @jaymejae
      @jaymejae Месяц назад +5

      According to the iRacing Official Sporting Code, here's what counts against your safety rating: 3.7.1.
      Safety Rating is a value assigned to all racers as a measure of the driver’s overall safety record. It is calculated using a formula that takes into account the number of corners a driver completes and the number and severity of incidents that driver accumulated in the process. These factors are averaged over a set number of laps and updated as each new Ranked session is finished.
      3.7.1.1
      Only Ranked Qualifying, Ranked Time Trial, Ranked Warm Up, Practice within a Ranked Race event, and Ranked Race events adjust competitors’ Safety Rating. All events not in this list do not adjust competitors’ Safety Rating. For more details on which events affect Safety Rating, check out Section 4.3.1.1.

    • @MHstlunatic
      @MHstlunatic Месяц назад +5

      During a race event incident points are assigned a multiplier. In practice and qualifying the multiplier is 0.35 so the punishment exists but is less severe. During a race the multiplier is 1.0 so the full effect of each point is felt.
      Incident points do count after the checkered flag until the session timer ends. If you navigate the black box to the lap timing page there is a session timer in the top right. After the leader crosses the checkered flag this timer starts counting down from approx 3 minutes. During this time incident points and off tracks are still in full effect, once the timer hits zero a new larger timer starts and now the incident points are disabled.

    You are doing great! Looking forward to seeing more of this because I literally started iRacing for Season 3. Watching you race is a mirror of the experience I'm going through. I'm currently at 1464 iR. I also get super nervous. I get frustrated at the injustice of 4X when I someone retaliates (happened to me at Laguna Seca and wrecked my race). My main goal at the moment is to finally win a race but I've also been focussing on trying to stay clean. I've had a good few podiums now though which I'm proud for. I managed to get my C licence by doing 4 races in the Toyota but want to stick with Mazda's for now. My big problem hovering around 1500 iR (I did go over it slightly for a while) is I'm now getting in splits with people doing 1-2 seconds a lap quicker than I am

      Thank you so much! I am glad to hear I am not the only one going through this and getting very nervous haha. Good job on the podiums! None for me yet but I'll get there. And I really understand. My last race, where the strength of field was higher, it was clear I did not have the pace. That is why I want to keep improving my skills and not force myself into races that I have no chances of winning haha. I'll try to find the right balance between trying for my racing skills and training for my racecraft!

      @@SarahNocchi Yes for sure, I am also in a strange way relieved as watching your channel, your racing knowledge is excellent and you know what you are doing round the track so I feel better knowing I'm also not the only one. Btw you are basically my source for F1 race news these days as I don't have time to always read autosport 🙂
      I realised the emotions of being in a race with real people is what draws me to iRacing. I dislike iRacing compared to other sims like rF2 and Assetto Corsa, but nothing gives that same level of immersion and satisfaction of finishing a clean race against others, especially when you get a race with lap after lap battles. It matters as though I was really sitting in the car.
      One thing I will say is I tend to put in my personal bests when the SOF is higher even though I'm off the pace. I think just following faster cars, getting tips and ideas for what they do really helps as well as not worrying about whether I can beat the person behind means I drive better. At Tsukuba this week I thought I had to brake later for hairpins and the delta bar made it look like that was good, but the straights afterward meant actually I need to brake a little earlier and get a better exit. I figured it out when cars a second quicker than me were braking and I was catching them into the turn then losing them all the way along the straights. Its amazing how one small difference can impact times

    Don't focus on irating - focus on improving your racecraft and driving skills. Your irating will increase naturally that way. I focused first on getting to 2k and then crashed back down because I was competing with drivers that were way better than I was at the time. If you compete out of your own "class", you'll just feel like you suck and it will demotivate you.

    I would advise you and anyone starting out or being at the 0-1500 level to completly ignore the ratings. I understand its for content reasons too but still. Obviously try to be safe, do not cause incidents if you can avoid it but other than that ignore both ratings, stressing over it will be a massive detrement to your progress. Lap time will come naturally until you start to reach your limits. Race craft is a massive learning curve though, watching others who are much better than you will help a lot but most of it is experience, and to get that you will need to put yourself into risky situations at times. If you are afraid of that because you will lose ratings, you are not going to learn anything.

    I got all my licenses and a 3k rating after about six months of sim racing. That said, I haven't raced in two years (my rig is back in Europe!!), but I'm about to build a new rig here where I am (why I guess RUclips suggested this video as I've been watching tons of sim racing videos lately) and my best advice for you is to take the time to qualify. Higher starting grid position = less carnage and people to avoid = maximize safety rating + iRating = climb the ladder faster. That and maybe VRS for telemetry and data packs (much better than any other online course I can think of). And also find a car/cup that suits you and is fun, no point in racing otherwise! awesome drive, one thing i noticed is that you spike the brake to 100%, in doing so it activates the abs or wheel lock up, that minimizes the effect that trail braking has on the car and likely is a reason you may be losing some time. Also consider the exit speed of the corner while it sounds counter intuitive the entrance speed can be a bit slower to allow for a faster exit speed where the car can make use of the time spent on the limit.

    • @SarahNocchi
      @SarahNocchi  Месяц назад

      Thanks for the advices! Good point regarding the abs. I definitely have to work on my braking precision.
      For cornering, I am 100% always going too fast into the corners and I know it's one of my weaknesses, as I lose time and speed on exit. I'll get better ;)

    It is the big problem in general of SIMRacing, many have no idea how to go inside a circuit. They think that every curve the car can fall and pass the opponent. You have to look a lot in the rearview mirror to avoid impacts. It is also true that the Mazda is a crash (at least in Iracing) when you get hit it suffers a lot. Example in Assetto Corsa Competiziones the GT3 cars are much harder and can withstand the hits of the opponent better.

    Nice video, you should learn or even try to save the car when it is sliding. Some use tricks like using a non linear ffb and limiting the max force so you can use more ffb without the fear of having too much force when crashing. Being nervous is a good thing if you are prepared, it is like driving in slow motion, but you need to get more comfortable being uncomfortable. Vrs telemetry is a good, when you lose the car you can learn what you did wrong so you dont repeat it and compare against drivers that would dominate the races that you drive.

    Unless the car behind is clearly faster overall, take a more defensive line when going into corners. Hug the inside and make them go around the outside. You'll have to brake slightly earlier and be slower in the corner, but it should be fairly offset by the other car having to go around the long way. That will cut down on the dive bombs up the inside and unnecessary incidents. Don't give them any space to try it.

    the best thing to improve correctly is to work on basics. Don't focus on lap time. Focus on working with knowing the feel of the car and when its on the limit. it means you might not improve as fast because you arent forcing lap times but it will mean that you will be more consistent and faster overall and it will be slightly harder to develop bad habits that you wont have to break further on.

    • @scrappy8494
      @scrappy8494 Месяц назад

      also another skill to work on that will be useful is wreck avoidance. it's annoying but it saves Safety rating and lap time because you wont be getting as much damage.

  • @teddyruxpin3811
    @teddyruxpin3811 Месяц назад

    Just an observation: You have a bad habit of resting your foot 10% on the throttle mid corner while you are braking. You also do it while you lose control. That's why the car completely spins out during those oversteer moments. Also, it's ok to apply the brake very quickly. The release of the break should be slow but the initial application can be as fast as possible.

    1st, I'm not being negative and I'm speaking from experience in sim and IRL - 11:10 you said "That hit you" but that is the guy that you turned into, spinning you both out. Your pace was slow because you were letting the guys ahead slow you and then you left the door open because of being focused on the 2 ahead, and your spotter even said "Car right" The racing is so tight in this class that a lot of time you just have to go for it of they are holding you up and you have people right on your bumper. I also notice you focusing a lot on the other cars when you start to get close to them, hard habit to break, but then you fall into their rhythm and make their mistakes and slow yourself down easily. Try to get to them and get by fast without waiting around or being "too impatient", @13:30 you gave a guy space on exit for the curb, but you never moved back toward the other side of the track, and if he were to continue going with the space, you left him, then he would've gotten an "off track" because it turns to grass. So you have to continue to come over and give them space on the straightaway, you had all the room in the world to your right and the racing line is also to the right 3 lanes over from where you are. So this guy is even beside you and he can't see u and expects you to at least follow the racing line, hopefully, with giving the space, you did neither... Also I see you went to G9 (on your new rig you built for some reason, haven't watched vid) but I'm only 1 race and 1 lap in and I've seen 3 times that having triples with a better FOV would have saved you. If you ever wanna do some laps together I can see if there is anything I can help with. Keep killing it! Again none of this trying Tobe negative, just giving my opinion and offering my help!
